Southwark Council Avis 

No response to emails and formal Complaints, no one answers the phone. I am wrongly being billed and aggressively pursued for Council Tax on a flat i no longer live in. They provide no service other than their own debt collection even when no money is owed.

Terrible service. I just made a phone call to dispute an overcharge and was attended by the most rude guy I have ever spoken to. He was rushed, interrupted and kept reading the invoice and saying "I am not going to repeat this again".
Southwark council should train people to offer a better assistance or get rid of the people who are not willing to work in a helpdesk line.

Council Tax Dept. This is terrible. You cant sort out nothing! When called again to sort it out no one answers. Told by your staff we are owed money yet still paying more as to what your system states. No one does the math anymore and hide behind a screen. Terrible dept. But I guess you never read reviews since no one gets replies. Its a failed system. Your staff cant work out anything. You dont even have email for council tax either...

Very bad experience l, poor communication.

Tried to call re a relative who had passed away.
They must have the epitome of all Obfuscating automated telephone systems, you end up going round in circles. So well done on that score.
No one seems available for anything or help anyone.
So, well done Southwark Council, glad I do not live within their area. Total shower.

The situation at the Aylesbury Estate is deeply concerning and shows a massive failure in management. Having spent a significant amount of time on-site, I have witnessed firsthand the neglect and the disrespectful attitude of Southwark Council staff and management toward both the residents and those working on the grounds. There is a clear lack of basic respect and a dismissive attitude from officials who seem to look down on the people they are supposed to serve.

The living conditions are unacceptable. The stairwells and communal areas are frequently used for illegal activities, including drug dealing and prostitution. During routine checks, dangerous weapons like knives are often found hidden in public areas. The hygiene levels are a health hazard; there is human waste, a constant presence of rats, and massive amounts of fly-tipped rubbish. Most heartbreakingly, there have been instances where people have passed away in the stairwells and were not discovered immediately.

There are also massive safety concerns. The Council's records regarding who is actually living in these flats appear to be highly inaccurate. In the event of an emergency, such as a fire, this lack of accountability could lead to a tragedy on the scale of Grenfell Tower. Residents are being forced out of London and leaseholders are being underpaid for their homes, all while being treated with zero dignity.

This is a clear example of gross negligence and greed. Taxpayers and residents deserve better than this disgusting lack of care. The public should look into the many documentaries and videos online that expose the reality of this estate. It is a disgrace that in 2026, people are still being forced to live in such unsafe and neglected conditions.

Trustpilot needs a ZERO STAR option for what is the most poorly run council in the UK.
If you're thinking of moving to Southwark and have Southwark as a Service provider - just don't bother.
They could not arrange a cube of ice in Antartica.
Absolute muppets for management, a shockingly bad website and service systems.
Key workers over stretched or just don't care anymore.
Moral and social responsibility non-existent...
And don't bother complaining - you'll get more response punching a silk curtain...

The Southwark Council Tax Office! Absolute Sc++m..My mother passed away last year and while I am still Grieving they quickly changed my Mothers name into my name and say I owe them 4-5 months Council Tax which I am not Liable..They empty my bins every Fortnight, That is all they do? At the moment I am paying a monthly council Tax at a reduced rate because of Universal Credit, But I am not gonna be liable for past council tax Arrears which was in my moms name and was passed on to me.

Allow businesses to fix cars on streets and pavements.
The whole of parking services are corrupt and do nothing. They boast of awards but it is a complete fake scam.

Absolutely awful experience with the leaks from above team. I reported an issue 2 weeks ago and they still have not helped resolve it. They keep saying it's with the liaison team, but I am not able to speak to them as they are not in the office. This has been the case every time I call, so apparently they are managing important issues such as leaks and never in the office.

I just had a really amazing experience with the most lovely of people on the end of a phone. Maureen from the Penalty Notices Team needs to be congratulated on her kind and patient phone manner- it was such a pleasure to talk to her and she made my day. Keep up the good work. I'm sure that team rarely get thanked, but for their kind demeanour, they deserve to be. I hope this feedback can be passed on to Maureen.

Incompetence Southwark council. When are citizen going to realise that if we don’t vote for these incompetent politicians vote for people that respect its citizens. When they come into office it’s all about making money it’s not about us. When are we gonna realise this? They need our votes-stop giving it to them.

After waiting over six weeks for Southwark Council to reply to a Council Tax query, I opted to put my apartment on the market. During this period, I not only renovated and showcased the property but also secured a buyer, received and accepted an offer, and successfully completed the sale. With my departure from London, I'm relieved to say goodbye to council tax here, and I've found Southwark Council to be rather ineffective.

They should be ashamed, labour are now the new government, before they blaimed the Conservatives now they have noone to black because southwark council is the new government and they have got worse a lot worse, they dont care about people they will take your money send you fines, and have you on hold for a hours at a time and they honestly dont care about people who are born and bred in southwark, shamfull, wouldn't give my dad a parking space when he was dying of cancer, this country needs to wake up

I've never encountered a council as poor as this one; they seem indifferent and unhelpful. Unfortunately, moving to this borough is something I now regret.

Dealing with council tax is quite challenging. When they send an email about a notification on your account, and you try to view it by following the link, the notification remains elusive even after thoroughly exploring the entire council tax website. This situation can be quite anxiety-inducing as the notification might be crucial, leaving me completely in the dark about its content.

When SBS attended due to living room window will nit shut correctly and when to want to.open window wide as it has always done and all the other windows open wide.when they attended they spoke to me as though I was stupid saying none of windows open wide.because the way they spoke to me I rang one of my sons and he told them that up to a week ago it always did he was close to home they.could not get out quick enough.i spoke to a manager twice said someone will ring not happened this is a health and safety issue as all windows on the estate have to open wide in case of an emergency do not care

You never get any reply or customer service. I am trying to pay my council tax online and keep getting an error. My account does not seem to be linked to my online profile despite trying and contacting them. Incompetent at best. Reference: 56374625

Never experienced such a disgusting corrupt organisation in my life. From the the racist scamming housing officers and staff, who are majority African. There's tons of proof that they've been controlling the housing in Southwark for a couple of decades. This is the institutional racism that doesn't ever get spoken about. The racist staff who are against White people, bumping their black African and Caribbean friends and family up the list, taking payments for getting their people higher priority.
I've witnessed them directly helping and advising black people on how to get the highest priority possible, but won't mention a thing like that to me when I need help. Many have been jailed for these corrupt acts already, and more will be too, once they're finally caught. This is an epidemic and needs to be exposed, especially when we've got thousands upon thousands of unvetted illegal immigrants flooding the country everyday. They'll have full priority too; before we know it. Everybody in Southwark knows about this corruption, so how does it continue every single day??? It's disgusting.

Worst service of any public organisation I’ve ever dealt with. Staff seem to think it’s okay to totally ignore emails. No one ever answers the phone. Always out of office/sick/ holiday. Would love to work there. Seems like a breeze!
