Checked the functionality of my device in various ways before sending it in. Sent it in, was told the device wouldn’t power on. Asked for them to send it back (which they guarantee they can), was fed a spoonful about how shipping it back was unethical due to carbon emissions, etc. Demanded they send it back. Received it, it worked completely fine. Told them as much and they never replied. Confident that they were trying to rip me off and refurbish it for money.

Just to be clear - you checked out with a newer phone in Brand New condition BUT sent in a USED, DIFFERENT and much, much OLDER phone that has little to no value now.
Awesome experience.
TechPayout gave me the highest offer of all of the other buyback websites, so that was obviously a huge win. They also paid for shipping and paid me out the same day they got my phone (possibly next day..can't remember). I've never sold a phone online so I was definitely afraid of getting scammed but thankfully everything worked out. They're legit. Zero complaints

Update: Despite my initial concerns, I changed my review to reflect my current degree of satisfaction. I have received good customer service since expressing the initial concerns below.
Earlier: I never received a response to a query about my order. I'm still waiting for a response about the item I sent in to sell, more than 2 weeks ago. And there's no update on the website. I will update this review if my transaction is completed, but as of now they have my tech and I have nothing.

PayPal froze transaction saying techpayout is a questionable company.
I received my money for my trade in, techpayout transfered funds into my PayPal account and now my account is frozen with funds on hold for 21 days because techpayout is considered by PayPal to be shady and or a questionable company or their methods using PayPal is concerning.

Sad to see this review but this actually has nothing to do with us being "shady". We send thousands of payments via PayPal a year and some are flagged for further review due to either: PayPal security measures OR customers who do not use their accounts very often. Additionally the US government recently changed some of their online rules for payments which require further scrutiny.
Regardless, we encourage all customers to contact us first before leaving reviews like this. Many times we are able to confirm receipt with PayPal and speed up the process (they do not alert us about this, so the customer needs to let us know the payments are on hold and we will gladly go check). For this specific transaction we were able to confirm the receipt now that we know it was held and the payment should clear quickly now.
