The Raj Restaurant Avis 22

Really disappointed with our visit to The Raj last night for my friend’s birthday, especially as it was somewhere I had recommended.

We were seated upstairs, which was cold and completely lacking atmosphere. Even going to the ladies was unpleasant — although we were guided, the area was absolutely freezing.

We arrived just after 7pm and the service was very slow. We waited over 20 minutes just for drinks, and even longer for our food order to be taken. At 8:40pm I had to ask how long our food would be, only to be told we had ordered 30 minutes ago — despite the fact we had already been in the restaurant for an hour and forty minutes.

When the food finally arrived, it was disappointing. I ordered sag, which is usually my favourite, but the chicken was chewy and clearly overcooked.

We asked for the bill immediately after eating as we had bowling booked for 9:30pm and were already running late. A misc £29.95 was added to our bill, we had no idea what that was for and was told it was for prawns, this was not explained to a member of our party on ordering. A £30 service charge had been added. While we are normally happy to pay a service charge, it didn’t feel justified given the slow service and uncomfortable, cold environment.

I appreciate it was very busy and that we were a larger group, but overall the experience was extremely disappointing. Unfortunately, I don’t think I’ll be dining there again.

It was a great atmosphere and customer service couldn't fault. the food was lovely and gave us extra naan bread.

Fantastic, nothing but good words to say, amazing food and some of the best customer service you can get! And you won’t find better quality food for the price anywhere else!

The food is almost always faster than stated online. Great website and food is really nice, loads of options, Tikka meat is great and lots of vegetarian options if needed.

Cant knock the staff,Very friendly and didnt wait long for the meal.
I had chicken Tikka Masala and my Wife had Butter Chicken , Both meals had chewy chicken (over cooked ?),had better chicken at other restaurants), remaining food was nice. Drinks seemed to be are watered down.
Tables way too close together.
Upstairs area was nice.
Prob go elsewhere in future.

Best Indian food I have had in Britain. We ordered samosas, a lamb vindaloo, a lamb kashmir and a naan bread, the bread with the vindaloo was heavenly. We ordered online and the computer system lost the order but when I enquired the restaurant delivered it really quickly.

Visiting area with work. Came across this restaurant and asked hotel receptionist (Travelodge) if it was an good, they said yes.Booked table online, very impressed with greeting and decor. Excellent choice of dishes, bespoke options of menu products. Great quality lamb and ingredients. Would highly recommend.

Went to the Indian restaurant on the 18th of January with family and friends. Excellent service excellent food excellent atmosphere, it’s a must if you love Indian cuisine dishes are to die for, great selection of drinks had a fantastic night. The owner and his sons Make you feel so welcome.🥂TH

The service was spot on not too fussy but attentive . Didn’t feel rushed . The food was first class I had my usual food and it was the best I’ve had for awhile. The other real plus point is the atmosphere is not to noisy so you can have a conversation. One slight criticism was the Keenan Nan could have had a bit more mince inside .

I went to The Raj after a long day of travelling and almost stayed at the hotel. Thank God I didn’t as the service was exceptional and the food followed suit. They pride themselves on original dishes and the King Prawn Jhinga Mossalada was delicious. If you’re in Kettering do not let this restaurant pass you by!!!

What a lovely evening with friends celebrating my husbands birthday. The Raj went above and beyond to make the evening special with balloon and cake and decorations for the table very thoughtful. Best Indian restaurant for miles.

Absolutely gorgeous meal and lovely service. Will be back regularly!! We had popadoms with the sauces for our starter, then for main lamb Rogan and the house mixed specials ( tandoori meats in a delicious sauce) Keenan rice ( never had before and it’s lush) Bombay potatoes (honestly best I’ve ever had and I adore them) and a Keema naan. The meats were all so tender and full of flavour. Then we had ice creams. Shawon is a real angel. He found a birthday candle for my dessert and sang happy birthday to to me. Then got me a flaming Sambuca too!! Very sweet! Prices are what we normally pay for good Indian food. We felt it was excellent value and will be recommending them to friends and family. We look forward to returning on a regular basis.

We had ordered a dinner for two however the curry was sweeter than gulab jamun and bhindi Bhaji had frozen bhindi / uncooked hard bhindi in the curry. Samosa was white and not brown .. not cooked . Was the most disgusting meal we had. Food inspector should audit their practices.

First class service from the minute you walk in the door to leaving. Lovely ambience to the restaurant. Menu is very substantive and very reasonably priced. The tandoor mixed grill was excellent and came with plenty of Naan bread. The lamb korma was excellent too. Would highly recommend.

Always a pleasure to eat at this fantastic welcoming restaurant. I’ve been eating here many times with friends and family . The staff are always at hand to give good service to their customers. The menu has good options to cater for what ever your tastebuds take you.

I recently visited The Raj and unfortunately, my experience was far from pleasant. From the moment I walked in, the service was subpar. Here's a breakdown of the issues I encountered:

1. Waiting Time:Despite having a reservation, I had to wait 30 minutes to be seated. There seemed to be a lack of coordination among the staffs in busy time.

2. Service Quality:The server assigned to our table was inattentive and seemed disinterested. It took 40 minutes and even longer to place our food order. Additionally, we had to ask multiple times for basic necessities like utensils and napkins.

3. Staff Attitude: Staff, who was serving us, was generally unresponsive and lacked professionalism. When we raised our concerns, they seemed indifferent and did not make any effort to rectify the situation.

4. Food Delivery:When the food finally arrived, it was lukewarm at best. Some dishes were even incorrect and had to be sent back, which added more to the already extensive waiting time.

Overall, the experience at [Restaurant Name] was disappointing. Poor service can significantly detract from the dining experience, and unfortunately, this restaurant failed to meet even the basic expectations. I hope the management takes these issues seriously and works on improving their service quality. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this restaurant.
