Started badly but ended well!
I recently purchased a signet ring from Tom Wood and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience.
I selected my size using their official sizing guide and based on my known ring size. When I first put the ring on, it seemed like it would fit, but during normal wear it became noticeably tight and uncomfortable. This made it difficult to wear for an extended period, which was unexpected.
After wearing it once, I also noticed visible surface marking on the finish. While I understand that some wear is normal with sterling silver and plated jewelry, this was more pronounced than I expected after a single use. The product page describes a polished finish, and in their FAQ they note a white rhodium coating that is described as strong and resistant, which led me to expect better durability in real-world use. However, that level of detail was not clearly presented on the product page during purchase.
I reached out to customer service to see if there were any options (exchange, store credit, or servicing), but was told there were no solutions available and that this was considered normal wear. The response felt very rigid and did not reflect much flexibility or consideration for the overall customer experience.
At this price point, I expected clearer guidance on how the ring would perform in everyday wear, as well as a more helpful resolution when issues came up.
I like the design of the ring, but based on this experience, I would be hesitant to purchase from them again.
Update: After my initial review, the company reached out and handled the situation at a much higher level, completely turning the experience around. My case was reviewed thoroughly, and they offered a replacement in the correct size. The new ring arrived in excellent condition—the finish is flawless, the larvikite is noticeably richer and more striking than the original, and the fit is absolutely perfect in real-world wear.
While my initial interaction was frustrating and felt overly rigid, I genuinely appreciate the care, attention, and professionalism shown in resolving the issue. The follow-through made a meaningful difference, and I’m very happy with how everything ultimately turned out.
This is exactly how a company should respond when something doesn’t go right.
