Serious concerns over customer treatment and departure handling

We recently travelled to Lapland with **** as part of an extended family trip, and unfortunately the experience fell well below expectations in several key areas. I would urge caution to anyone considering booking with them.

During our stay, my 12-year-old son was issued a room key and placed it in the pocket of the thermal suit provided by the resort. The suit had a hole in the pocket, which resulted in the key being lost. This was reported at the time, yet we were still charged €150 for the replacement. At no point were we warned of such a charge.

We also experienced confusion over the pricing of a snowmobile excursion, where the cost explained in resort did not align with what was ultimately charged.

Most concerning, however, was the handling of payment on departure. An attempt was made to process payment in the wrong currency, which failed. Despite this, we were then informed that my son and I may not be allowed to board our return flight unless payment was made immediately. This caused significant and unnecessary stress, particularly when travelling with a child.

We have since raised this formally but have found the response dismissive, with little acknowledgment of the circumstances or responsibility.

Based on this experience, I would advise others to carefully consider their options before booking.

Snowmobile voyager

All the trips out, snowmobiles, to three countries border and ice fishing and aurora chasing, the latter on our last of a 4 night break at Rakka, Kilpisjärvi, were excellent. 2nd time doing this trip, love it.
Rakka, great hotel, food was scandi ie fish and pickles etc. there were hot selections also which were good and hearty to set you up for 3hour trips. The Sami guys/family are great.
We booked a jacuzzi/sauna for 3hrs down at tundrea - what a great place and had it all to ourselves (2 of us) then a roll in the snow arrrrrggghhhhh but rejuvenating in what real feel temps at -22 then hop back into jacuzzi.
Back at Rakka - the tour eventually became brief/good friends. Met up with friends who like us returned for a 2nd time. “My place of heaven” she states.
Great pictures on all tours by kilpisafari team who were very experienced. Big shout to @finnishhammockman ‘Johan’ for an excellent Aurora evening and his other guide who served doughnuts and gloggy up at saanajarvi hut.
Wanted to go again next year but our closest airport has been dropped by Transun so unable to go in 2027. So looking elsewhere for more Arctic experiences and indeed new countries to visit

Just fabulous !

Just back from the Daavi Lodge in Kaaresuvanto. How anyone could give this trip less than 5 stars I don't know ! Our accommodation in a cabin was excellent -very warm and comfortable. Daavi lodge and all it's activities was managed by a staff of enthusiastic and knowledgeable and mostly young people who looked after us very well. Organisation was efficient and punctual. The food was good, varied and plentiful, the bar area was cozy and warm. The activities were fabulous, my favourites were driving the huskies and reindeer but tobogganing was great fun and skidoo riding was very exciting. The Finnish landscape is breathtakingly beautiful and we saw the Northern Lights. What more could you possibly ask for ! I would wholeheartedly recommend this trip and I would definitely go again !

DO NOT USE TRANSUN

DO NOT USE TRANSUN - find another company to take you to the artic circle. They do not care about their customers and use disempowered students to run the trips. To say I am disappointed with our experiences with this company is a massive understatement. It was meant to be the trip of a lifetime for our 30th wedding anniversary. I had always wanted to see the Northern Lights and my husband has always wanted to go husky sledding. We wanted to take our two sons with us and we could only afford three nights. We chose Transun because they included a brief husky mushing experience as part of the package (my husband's bucket wish list). When we arrived at the Davvi Star hotel in Swedish Lapland we discovered that all the experiences were being run by students. We had lengthy gaps in our itinerary so on our first morning we explored the village - it is a long walk in ill-fitting boots to the tourist gift shop. I wore the skin off my heels so couldn't walk any distance after that. The long gaps in our two day trip forced us to buy, at significant cost (£500), an extra experience to fill the time: ice fishing. We got to go on snowmobiles but the rest of the experience was pretty lame. The students tried their best to make it jolly but it we were not there long enough to acclimatise to this type of cold, so sitting on the ice in -20 for any length of time was uncomfortable. That evening we were led on a forest walk by students to see the Northern Lights. One of the guests had to ask the student at the front of the walk to slow down as all the older guests were struggling to breathe with the pace. Once there in the clearing this particular student tried to tell us jokes but no one was interested, we were there to see the Lights. It would have been fine if he'd told us anything about the actual phenomena but he didn't, he was just distracting and spoiled the mood. Then we were hassled back off again without having had enough time to appreciate this amazing event. The following morning we were supposed to be doing the husky mushing. We were rushed off at 9am to the site where we were expecting to meet the dogs, only to be walked around the kennels to see sled dogs (not huskies) for what seemed like an eternity, and again in -25. Then we were taken into a BBQ hut to 'play' with a husky puppy in the presence of a German chap who described dog sled competitions peppered with four letter words. Personally, I don't mind about that but I spotted the other family with young children exchanging worried glances. It just didn't seem terribly appropriate. Anyway, this too went on for ever and I was wondering when we would get to the mushing, bearing in mind it's advertised as a 90-minute experience and the drive to the site is about 30 minutes. We were ushered back to the transits and when I said when are we doing the mushing the student said it had been cancelled because the temperature was too low. It was hovering around -28 degrees at this time. I was astonished, who knew that huskies couldn't cope with artic temperatures for half an hour, except that these were sled dogs, not pure huskies and they don't have the same insulating coats, they are bred for racing. Back at the hotel I asked if they were going to reschedule and the students said no, they weren't allowed to make that sort of decision - absolutely useless. I asked could we be compensated as this experience was worth £500 of the holiday cost. Again, they said no they just were not empowered to do that and advised us to complain when we got home. What made it worse was that some guests had been scheduled to do the husky sledding on the first morning and were raving about it being the best experience out of all of them. That same evening the same student that had led the Northern Lights walk led the snowmobile safari. We rode so slowly I thought I was going to get frostbite and again, once we arrived at the end destination he got distracted flirting with one of the other students and spoiled the experience. A shout out though to the Sami reindeer herder because he was genuinely passionate about his country and told us so much I didn't know. Once back in the UK I contacted Transun to complain about the husky sledding thing. I patiently waited the 28 days for the response and cried when I read this anodyne, mealy-mouthed statement: "We are disappointed to hear that your husky ride was altered but happy a tour of the kennels could be arranged as an alternative." An alternative? Are you kidding me? No compensation and not even an offer of a discount on a future trip. I see this as a breach of contract. We only chose this holiday with this company because of the husky sledding that their own website blog says you must not miss. Terrible, awful, most disappointing holiday ever!

Poor Hostess

Traveled to Lapland on the 16th December with my grandson who is 3 years old in all the years of traveling and I do travel a lot I have never experienced such miserable hostess, considering it was a trip to Lapland with a plane full of excited children the hostess's were very rude to customers they even had a lady crying which was disgusting. Most people on the plane complained about the attitude of the crew and we had the same crew coming back I have done Lapland before if this had been my first time I would never do it again . You would think being a Christmas flight they would sing songs to the children or at least play some Christmas music interact with the children they could even give the children a cookie or something like that this has definatley not a good flight . The company was Transun and the flight was Enter would stay away from the flight company in future

Save your money for something else

Communication before the trip was sparse, but ok.
The chartered flight from Exeter was ok, although the cabin crew seemed to be very slow - not a real problem.
We arrived and were met by the tour staff and put on to our coaches, and off to the Suits and Boots location, which is where the problems began,
We were told that they did not have boots to fit my son or wife - fortunately we had bought some snow boots that were able to be worn, or they would not have been able to continue.
On arrival at the site we went for some food, and were offered some pasta with an unidentified meat dish. It tasted ok, but my sone did not like the look and had to have salad and dry pasta as there were no alternatives.
Our group then got split up and we were told that our family would be called to see Santa as that was our first activity. We went to the toboggin hill while we waited. when it was our turn to go and see Santa we were directed further along the trail and into the woods - I'm really glad I brought a torch because there was absolutely no lighting to show the way.
When we got to the cabin we were told to wait as the group before wasn't quite done yet. Our son was offered to toast some marshmallows, but he asked if he could do that after seeing Santa as this was the main part that he had been looking forward to - he was told that that was fine and he could do that on the way out.
We were called in to Santa's house and were shocked at what we saw - Santa was slumped in his chair and seemed to be having trouble moving - my wife actually asked him if he was ok or if he needed medical assistance... He looked as if he had had a stroke, or was having one.
My son was a little disturbed by this and was hesitant to approach. Santa asked once if he wanted a photo, then struggled to reach into a bucket of presents next to him and vaguely waved in the air in the direction of my son.
After this he said it was time to go... The main reason for going on this trip and he made it very clear that he had no time for children. On the way out we asked if our son could toast a marshmallow, but were told that our time was up and there were other activities to do - this ruined the experience for all of us.
We tried to go on the husky sled ride, but after waiting in the queue and getting to the front, the girl that was in charge thought it better to look straight past me and call a group behind me forward to go next - apparently these were staff on a day off and she thought this was ok.
Anybody thinking of this trip should consider that you will be awake for at least 24 hours, on the go constantly, with minimal food and any warm drinks are very expensive. The staff are uninterested at best and dismissive and ruinous to the experience at worst.
I would say save your money and look for a different tour operator because this was not the once in a lifetime experience that we had hoped for.

Lapland

Booked a trip to Lapland for 2 adults and 2 children. This was a group trip so wasn’t too sure how the day would pan out but every thing was very well organised right from the airport meet up through to the resort and back. Activities were well organised and there were no long waits for each activity (which was a little concern I’d had travelling with a group). Staff were brilliant and our group guide made our trip that extra bit magical.

Would definitely use Transun again as everything went so smoothly and all we had to do was turn up and enjoy our trip.

I was a travel agent accompanying a group travelling to meet Father Christmas, we anll had a fabulous day! Although there were slight delays to the flight, we were always kept informed. Plus, we were given extra time in Lapland to make up for it!

The flight is just under three hours. The Transun team meet you at the airport, and you are taken by coach to get suited and booted and then to the village. During your time there, you are split into groups with the opportunity to go sledging, be pulled by reindeers, ride a snowmobile and meet Santa.

A few pointers, it is cold so make sure you wear layers. Especially at the airport, where you will have to walk across the tarmac to the plane. It is ten minutes to the first stop (to get suited and booted) and then another ten to Santa’s village. You will have the opportunity to try every activity.

Transun are a friendly, ‘can do’ company who run well-organised trips. The staff in the office and on-site are devoted to their job, making your kids (and big kids) dreams come true.

Holiday of a life time

We had a wonderful trip to Finland. Transun organised everything perfectly from the airport pick up to the excursions and were on hand to answer any queries. The excursions were absolutely phenomenal. We saw the aurora whilst snowmobiling on a frozen lake at night. We stayed in the Davvi Arctic Lodge which was cosy with a lovely bar area and great food.

Davvi Arctic Lodge…

We went to Finland in January and transun were amazing from the moment we were picked up at the airport. Our excursions and meal times were planned and the rep changed some things around to accommodate additional excursions. The daily schedules were pinned to a board and included all meal times. The staff were so helpful and always there to answer questions and queries. The excursions were fun and very well organised. The lodge was cosy and the rooms were well appointed.

A near Perfect experience! Snowmobile Voyager

A near perfect experience.
We just returned from our Transun Snowmobile Voyager, staying at the Tundrea resort in Kilpisjärvi. We flew from Bristol. The airline Transun used was Enterair. A polish airline. We read horror stories, but we had none whatsoever. No delays, no luggage issues and more leg room on the plane then an easyjet flight.

We landed in Enontekio, a very tiny airport! Once through security, we were greeted by a transun reps, we were directed to our relevant coach which would take us to our resort.

Our resort was close to 3 hours away, but you make a pit stop halfway to pick up the snowsuits and a toilet break.

We arrived at the Tundrea resort. The venue is perfect, mountains surrounding the area, a supermarket across the road, plenty of walks to do in your freetime. Got off the coach, was told to drop off our luggage, have dinner and meet in a hut to sort out the itinerary.

Tundrea's restaurant also counted as the reception. The food was great, we were full board and the food offered was a set selection each day, but a great thing about it was that it was a buffet. Have as much as you like! They also had a paid menu, which was pretty good. There were other resorts a short walk away with their own restaurants if you fancied trying somewhere else.

We were split into two groups and were told what activities we were doing each day and their timings. This will be my feedback for the activities positive and negative.

Ice Fishing with Snowmobiling
Picked up by coach for a 5 minute drive to get sorted on the snowmobiles. Once we got going we were travelling through breath-taking scenery. The guides took us to a spot to attempt some fishing. For the proper experience we manually drilled a hole in the ice using the tool provided, this was hard work but fun. After a quick tutorial, we were given our rods and away we went. However after over 10 minutes of trying knowone had found a fish. We asked the guide how good this spot is and he basically said 'Its not that great, dont usually have much luck here'. Which baffled us all and almost made the experience pointless. Why not use a different spot?

Snowmobile Voyager Three Boarders
This is advertised as a big selling point of the package. As expected you are on a snowmobile travelling through epic scenery, over lakes, forests etc. You are taken to a 'monument' recognising the borders of Sweden Norway and Finland. Its quite cool but that's it. Our guides pointed out the main points of it. And that was it. Didn't take us closer to the crossings or chat much more in-depth. Take a few photos, have some lovely warm berry juice and that's it. We also thought the activity would be way longer. Like half a day. It only lasted close to 3 hours.

Snowshoeing
For me this was a big suprise. I really enjoyed this. We were picked up and taken to another hotel where our guide was. She was very friendly. A quick brief on how to put the snowshoes on, how to walk and the plan for the night. We set off. Our guide took us off the beaten track and basically made her own route up which was awesome. Then it started snowing really heavily which again was awesome. We made it to a hut, where she made a fire, gave us an insight into the northern lights and had some berry juice. We made our way back down in the heavy snow and had a laugh doing so. In some parts the snow was pretty deep. To top the experience off the northern lights made an appearance and what an appearance it was!

Reindeer Farm
A short walk to the reindeer farm, where we met a lovely gentleman who ran the farm, we sat in a hut and he talked about his families history and took any questions we had. We then went outside and fed the reindeer, they are beautiful quiet animals. To end it you can have a little sleighride, which is just a nice way to end it.

Finally in regards to snowmobiling in general.
It sounds obvious but you want to be able to drive relatively quickly and no matter what anyone says it can 'ruin' the experience a tiny bit. It all depends on the guides and who you might be stuck behind. We are able to open the taps on occasion but for not as long as you wanted.

On your flight home day, you are given a small packed lunch and driven by coach to the airport. Overall an amazing experience everyone should try.
