Subscription process is a scam

Subscription process is a scam. They intentionally make their subscription rate change as hidden as possible and ensure to put "if you don't cancel by X date you're screwed" and then charge a massive fee that was more than the entire previous year combined. It's intentional and its deceitful. Should be a class action lawsuit...

Don't sign up for their promotional offer period.
They continued charging me even after I called to cancel the initial 6-month trial. I trusted the brand so much, which was my mistake. Today, when I called to inquire why they were still charging my CC after cancelling 8 months ago, I was transferred to another department, where a supervisor named SOL acted smug and refused to refund. TOTAL SCAM ARTISTS. WATCH OUT.

Malicious Subscription Practices

Legacy media company desperate for your cash. Will scam you with some low introductory offer and then sticker shock you with a $55 a month subscription. Looking forward to their bankruptcy. AI stock news FTW!

Business FRAUDS who will RIP YOU OFF

I renewed by WSJ+ subscription on Feb. 9th thinking it was the renewal of the prior subscription. Low and behold yesterday i got charged $54.99 and when i called WSJ they said that first subscription used a DIFFERENT EMAIL than current renewed subscription and therefore had not been cancelled. I asked for a refund of the $54.99! NO REFUNDS ALLOWED AT ALL! talked to supervisor LIZ who canned the same BS after i explained the situation. So I renew as a faithful customer and all WSJ wants is $$ no matter how they get it. HORRIBLE. NO grievance procedure or any recourse for me. I will let BBB know and social outlets.

The Good, Bad and Ugly

I find the reviews interesting in that they span opinions from too far "left" to "controlled by the Pentagon" and "pro" Trump. This tells me the WSJ must be doing something right, reporting both sides of the news. It is the only source I've found I can trust to not slant all its news to fit an ideology. BUT, the complaints about delivery and pricing are well-founded, and News Corp should be ashamed of this blatant mistreatment of WSJ readers and their rampant greed in pricing and not paying refunds.

WIFE AND/OR I SUBSCRIBED FOR FORTY YEARS. ALTHOUGH THEY ARE STILL CONSERVATIVE-LEANING, IT IS QUITE OBVIOUS THAT THEY DISLIKE PRESIDENT TRUMP. IT GETS RIDICULOUS, SOMETIMES. SO WE CANCELLED RECENTLY. WE CAN READ THE HEADLINES, THEN GET LESS-BIASED INFO ELSEWHERE.

I tried to subscribe to the Wall Street…

I tried to subscribe to the Wall Street Journal (online digital only subscription) yesterday and my checking account was debited $8.56 for the first month's subscription. But when I tried to access the digital content the website said my subscription had expired. I tried everything with their customer service department - online chat assistant and calling the 800 number - and have had no resolution. The customer service agent with whom I spoke didn't speak much English and had trouble understanding my issue. He said he'd send a link to reset my password and never did. The customer service page on the WSJ website is useless. Options are limited and everything is circular.

The Wall Street Journal email e edition…

The Wall Street Journal email e edition subscription price is too expensive. My original subscription expired but I was not notified of the increased cost that was automatically charged. I thought the WSJ had more integrity. With electronics available today, you could easily notify your customers. If a subscription is cancelled, a partial refund should be issued but is not. Shame on the WSJ.

Great newspaper, terrible company

Great newspaper, terrible company. AS everyone else has said, they bait with a 'fair' price, then quickly convert you to an outrageous monthly bill and wont allow you to cancel, or make it extremely difficult to cancel. even cancelling before i was charged, they would not cancel or refund, only agreeing to stop future payments. Because they already had my billing date for today.

I Felt Cheated

I purchased the Wall Street Journal with MarketWatch and Barron's for 5 euro to get access to a few articles.

The cost of renewal each month shot up to approximately 19 euro after the first couple of renewals. It was 11 months before I realised The Wall Street Journal was chipping away at my savings.

I reached out to support to try to get a refund, I even suggested credit in good faith for a few months so they wouldn't need to payout.

Their response I received was cold and apathetic. I received a paragraph on The Wall Street Journal's company policies. There was no goodwill, problem solving or customer care involved.

"we acknowledge that our services may not have been utilized during the active period of your subscription"

"Subscriptions are based on the entitlement to access our services, rather than on actual usage."

I caution others to think twice before picking up The Wall Street Journal. They likely make a sizeable income from charging inactive accounts.

Too much MarketWatch clickbait -- why pay for a WSJ.com subscription and get inundated with another sites clickbait? And no way to stop it. At least on MSN.com you can block trash websites. And that's free. WSJ.com makes you pay for the trash. And no way to stop it.

Absolutely horrible company

Absolutely horrible company! They baited me in with a small fee to read an article and unknowingly I signed up for a very expensive subscription. Ridiculously expensive! I admitted to the supervisor I didn’t realize that I had signed up for the sub and asked if I could get any sort of refund as my situation financially is dire at the moment and any little bit would help! Even just one month back (I had the sub almost 2 years without knowing) I had tried to cancel before and kept getting an error on the last page. She said no. Company policy. No refunds at all. While I know they don’t “owe” me anything for taking their bait so long ago, it would have been a kind and helpful gesture to at least refund me 40$ of the over $700 I’d paid to them over the years without even wanting or using their news platform. A small amount of Simple customer care and showing compassion would have actually given them some chance at showing they’re a decent company with some scratch of ethics. Sadly, they’ve proven they’re not worthy of being called a decent company. Reader beware…

WSJ: Subscription R*pe

The way DJ runs its WSJ (Wall Street Journal) subscription plan is deceptive and downright sleazy. The teaser subscription price rolls over automatically into an insanely high subscription rate (for me it rolled into $52.99 a month subscription), which we attempted to cancel the very first day it renewed, however per their ToC you must cancel the subscription the day before it renews and they will not pro-rate the month. This is spelled out in a ToC you signed 13x months ago. Good luck remembering that. This is an unreasonable and purposefully deceptive practice designed to fit their business plan and model and recover the cost of their low teaser subscription all in the 13th month. This can all be avoided by 1) sending a courtesy email saying your introductory subscription is renewing at a new higher rate 2) allow customers to cancel auto-renewal on the day it renews, literally or 3) pro-rate the month and not force your subscription on customers who no longer want them. This is tantamount to a de-facto "subscription r*pe."
