I worked for this company previously…

I worked for this company previously and had to take legal action regarding unpaid money.
I won my case at the Employment Tribunal, but unfortunately the payment has still not been made and enforcement proceedings have now been started to recover it.
I hope the company improves how it handles its legal obligations in the future. They are part of Rase Vets

Really disappointed with having to write this review…

Really disappointed with having to write this review but feel it is vital for others to be aware.I spend over £40 a month for my two dogs on a care plan - recently when I required emergency care for one of my dogs, I was told that there were no vets available which i deem to be unacceptable. I was expected to drive to another town and was told that there was nothing that they could do locally.
I had no option but to call another vet in town despite me paying a monthly fee for their services. The practice I ended up dealing with is independent and what a difference. Prompt, personal and a fraction of the price for starters. From this visit, I also discovered just how much I had been taken advantage of by Alders, not just through the monthly fees but from recent dental care carried out (no extractions, a scale and clean which cost in excess of £900). I was advised that this could have been done for around half the cost.
I am tied to continue with the plan at Alders for another 7 months but needless to say, I will no longer use them as my vet which is an absurd situation.
In short, I have found them to be nothing more than a money making machine (owned by the Mars Corporation after all).
My advice - stick with the independents of which we have a choice of in Guildford.

During a visit for booster shots

During a visit for booster shots, Pip, my tiny Yorkshire terrier, was diagnosed with dental plaque. Seeking a thorough assessment, I scheduled another appointment with a different veterinarian. They confirmed he needed dental cleaning, though it wasn't urgent. Being proactive with my pet's health, I opted for the cleaning and was quoted £395. On the day of the procedure, having fasted Pip in preparation for anesthesia, I encountered unexpected issues at the clinic. In the reception area, I was handed a consent form with unexpected conditions, including a clause allowing tooth extraction at £61 per tooth, at the vet's discretion. I insisted no teeth be removed without prior consultation, as two Aldervale vets had only recommended plaque removal for preventative care. The clinic then stated that the vet could remove teeth without my consent, and the potential cost could rise to £700, not including medication. I highlighted that their earlier email confirmed the cost and procedure, forming a binding agreement. Faced with an ultimatum to either sign the form or leave, I chose to withdraw both my dogs from their care. After expressing my dissatisfaction through a formal complaint, I was directed to their insurance, which has yet to respond to any correspondence. This experience reflected a shocking pursuit of profit over pet care, and I cannot endorse their services for any animal.

Aldervale vets

We always use Aldervale - and have for many years. We recommend them without hesitation.
They care about the animals they treat and have certainly treated ours very well.
Complex illnesses requiring more specialist equipment or diagnosis are referred to the vets of your choice, they usually recommend Paragon but it's entirely up to you....Paragon are also recommended by us.

absolutely awful treatment of my sons…

absolutely awful treatment of my sons dog teddy , had some cells removed from a lump was told not cancer and not in lymph nodes put on steroids , in a few days this doubled in size , took back and was told the senior vets would be in contact ,another couple days with no contact from vets it had quadrupled in size, various calls to vets but still they didn't bother to contact him , finally teddy was to get the mass removed over a £1000 but by now , it was an aggressive carcinoma cancer and had spread to his lymph nodes and after a few days another lump has grown , again we asked about maybe chemotherapy and again they said that they would make the necessary calls and get back to us , but once again nothing , so his little dog is going to die prematurely , we feel thoroughly let down by the vets and rase hospital , as time isnt on his side , his children are going to be devastated losing their little buddy, and what's more charging an examination fee of £21 to feel a lump to say yep its grown which took around 30 seconds to come to that conclusion

Beware of rip-offs

This vet has now lost me as a customer after 3 years. Everything is okay as long as your pet doesn't get sick. Milo needed stitches to his paw (over £1000). During the recovery process, I noticed that he was constantly licking himself because a blister or cyst had developed between his toes but during the 2 follow-up examinations I was assured that everything was fine. 2 months later and the cyst is still there (now filled with pus). When I mentioned this at my latest worm and flea tablets appointment, I was charged £124 again for antibiotics and painkillers and was told that if it's not getting better a further surgery would be required. I objected to the consultation fee in the latest bill because I was already booked for this appointment, so the receptionist asked the vet if he could take it off the bill.... no chance, a consultation fee was also due. My feeling is that the vets have to fulfill a quota per month. No apologies that something obviously went wrong during the operation. Being too greedy never pays off....

Don’t have a problem with aldervale…

Don’t have a problem with aldervale vets but be aware if your pets need specialist treatment they tend to recommend Paragon referrals in Wakefield they are a four hour round trip away and from our experience I would not let them treat a stuffed toy as they basically killed our dog and charged us almost £8000 pounds to do it and their vets are liars. If you do need specialist treatment I would recommend Abbey Vets in Grimsby.

Estimated costs doubled overnight without any further examination

On an appointment for his boosters Pip my miniature Yorkshire terrier was found to have plaque on his teeth. I made another appointment with a different vet to give his teeth a good check over. I was informed they needed doing but not urgent. I prefer preventative measures so requested that it should be removed. I was informed it would be £395 so booked in for the procedure. Arrived on the morning for his teeth after fasting Pip from the day before in preparation for the anesthetic. In reception I was asked to sign a “consent form “ but lots of conditions had been added Including that the vet could remove teeth if he thought it necessary at £61 plus per tooth. I said I do not want any removed without a consultation with the vet first as on examination from two Aldervale vets removal of plaque for prevention of deterioration was all that was required. I was then informed that the vet would remove any teeth they found necessary without my consent. To cover this I would be signing the consent for a sum of £700 twice the amount agreed and suddenly the medication was not included either.
I informed them that they had confirmed the cost and procedure in an email which as I had consented it was a binding contract. I was then given an ultimatum of sign or take my dog away. I removed both my dogs from their surgery. I wrote a letter of complaint and was referred to their insurance who have refused to answer any emails or correspondence. Absolutely disgusting money grabbing treatment of a dog. I would not recommend these people for ANY pet

Top Banana

We have two rescue dogs, my review is not for the vets, but for Sharon the receptionist at the Skegness branch. She is always cheerful, sympathetic and very efficient. Sharon was particularly helpful with our insurance claims and is generally a good egg. Top employee !

ROBBERS.

i took my great Dane dog to their Sutton-on sea branch, for the vet to check a lump to be removed from her rear foot, yes they took blood tests(check for cancer) & quoted over £1k to remove it.
I registered with another vet in Louth, who were fantastic, consultation, tablets & operation total £250, what a difference, ALDERVALE is just about making money, disgusting.

Caused animal suffering by incompetence

This is a copy [extract] of a letter we sent to Aldervale vets Suton on Sea, the reply we got was just us being fobbed off.
We brought our Husky/Akita Bella to you with itchy ears in November 2022, we were told an ear infection and sold drops plus the consultation fee.
Approximately a week later we brought Bella back with itchy sore eyes and were again sold drops and had a consultation fee.
A few weeks past and neither of these prescriptions had worked Bella steadily getting worse, we were now informed Bella had allergies. Again we were sold prescribed drugs for this condition and after a few more weeks it was obvious these weren’t working.
We had now been attending your practice almost weekly, we were told it was all different things. Bella had been prescribed Steroids that knocked out her immune system, sore areas were becoming infected. Again more prescribed drugs for these new conditions, in fact you even had us buying special foods and drugs off the internet, still poor Bella suffered at your hands.
We were now getting scared we were going to lose her, she resembled the dog used in the RSPCA commercials, the one that had been abused and neglected all while under your care and attention.
A few weeks ago at yet another appointment my Son showed your vet the spots he now had across his torso, these were dismissed by your vet as being nothing more than flea bites even though no fleas or dirt could be found on Bella. Again different idea’s by your vets, comments like “we don’t know what’s going on, something should have worked” and “I’m not really a skin specialist, I’ll take some pictures” More prescribed drugs and shampoos.
Within a week my wife, Son and I were smothered in itchy spots and rashes, our GP confirmed we had contracted Scabies from Bella, you know, the flea bites.
The whole house was stripped and cleaned daily, rugs thrown out, we lost time off work because we couldn’t go in as we work in close proximity to other members of staff, our life was now a nightmare because your vets couldn’t tell the difference between flea bites and scabies.
Bella was in absolute agony, we could now understand what she was going through because thanks to you we were now going through the same thing!
On one of our last visits to your practice, a Sunday. We were informed by your vet “forget all her skin problems Bella needs an emergency operation, we were told this was going to be £2000.00 and we had to rush Bella to Market Rasen for the surgery. On the way there my wife crying her heart out brought Bella home for me to say goodbye before heading off, When we got Bella there we paid £1250 initially and was told we’d be contacted later, Tracey came home with the neighbour that we had been paying to ferry us around and we waited for a call.
Later that evening we got a call to be asked if they could perform some tests/checks, we were told Bella shouldn’t have what your practice had proclaimed, No. 1 she was in season, No, 2 she was really too young. The tests/scans were done and Bella didn’t need surgery? The blood tests showed that Bella had Mange [scabies?] and dermatitis. We were told we could come and collect Bella and this mistake of yours cost us another £850.00, £750 to the vets there and £100 for all the taxi rides dropping off and collecting over the weekend to our neighbour.
Fortunately after months of poor Bella suffering to the point where we were discussing having to have her put down, the correct medication was prescribed [not by you] and Bella’s condition started improving.
One of the vets at the Rase practice said Bella’s records read like a book, according to you she’s had and been treated for everything, we are so relieved you don’t do the operations there otherwise you’d of cut Bella up wrongly as well.
Fortunately Bella is on the mend, we found Aldervale to be the worse vets we have ever been to. Please remember every mistake made not only costs you but leads to so much suffering for your animal, our Bella went through months of it thanks to these guys.
Date of first appointment is estimated
