This company keeps putting up credit repair signs when we asked them to stop. Advertising signs on private and public property is a misdemeanor in California. The owner Steven White said he would stop on the BBB website, however, he lied and continued to break the law. They are dishonest and deceitful to the core.
Please be advised: This company has an F rating with BBB! They are not BBB accredited because they charge illegal upfront fees.
This business is a scam (the owner is Steve White). They sent me a written contract asking for an upfront payment of $595 to dispute a few inquiries. Charging upfront fees is against the law. Also, the contract states: “American Credit is a non-profit corporation organized under the laws of the state of California, having duly filed an application with the Internal Revenue Service, operating as a tax exempt organization, pursuant to Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.”
This is false. The IRS website has a Tax Exempt Organization Search Tool
You can check an organization's:
• Eligibility to receive tax-deductible charitable contributions
• Review information about the organization's tax-exempt status and filings.
The IRS has no record of this company as a nonprofit. A private foundation cannot be tax exempt. Certain credit repair practices are illegal. We seek to hold companies accountable for violating consumer protection laws.
This business keeps putting up advertising signs and it’s against the law. I’m sick of seeing these signs everywhere. It’s pollution and trash! I will file a complaint with city hall.
Stop advertising your signs in our neighborhood! We're tired of it. Your company is making a mess with your stupid signs. We complained to the city manager and they said it's against the law. You're an unprofessional company. Our community had a lot of fun taking these signs down. Do not do business with this company that breaks the law! Call your city to file a complaint about these signs.
This company has fake reviews on Google Reviews. Steve White left a 5-star review, however, he’s affiliated with the company. Elizabeth Melendez also left a 5-star review and is affiliated with this company. Both names are listed on the California Secretary of State. This is a conflict of interest. Please stop advertising your signs on telephone poles. And this company illegally charges fees upfront. This shows how desperate this company is.
This is an illegal credit repair company. This business does not have a surety bond and does not have a DOJ certificate as required by state law; this is a misdemeanor under California law. Moreover, this illegal credit repair company sent me a written contract asking for an upfront payment of $150.00. This is a violation pursuant to both federal and state laws (Credit Repair Organizations Act 15
U.S.C. S§ 1679-1679j; and Credit Services Act of 1984 Cal.Civ. Code §1789.10 - 1789.26.) State law: "No credit repair organization may charge or receive any money or other valuable consideration for the performance of any service which the credit repair organization has agreed to perform for any consumer before such service is fully performed. Federal law: "The Act bars companies offering credit repair services from demanding advance payment." Additionally, this illegal company is posting signs unlawfully throughout Los Angeles city and county (on traffic signs and utility poles, etc.) in violation of citywide regulations and municipal codes. Don't do business with this illegally operating business. You do not have to pay upfront or make advanced payments for credit repair services. Also, they charged me money and required a debit/credit card
for my credit report. Under federal law, you can obtain your credit reports for free.
