Work was not carried out as agreed

Work was not carried out as agreed. Gutters were not cleaned and grossly overcharged for gutter repair. My window cleaner checked gutters they were full of debris. The part replaced was £7 at DIY shop. I was charged £400. DON'T USE THIS COMPANY THEY ARE NOT TRUTHFUL AND DO NOT COMPLETE WORK. I AM A PENSIONER AND CANNOT AFFORD THIS SORT OF MONEY.

Avoid at all costs - DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY

I arranged work with Bernard Mcdonagh from Apex Roofing UK. He is now ignoring my calls and texts, even though I supposedly have a warranty for this repair.

I hired this company to do £3000 of work on my roof in Edinburgh. The work looks OK, but the tradesmen dumped their rubbish in my neighbour's skip as they were too cheap / lazy to get rid of it themselves.

Extremely unprofessional and illegal practices, I do not understand how this company is in businesses.

We are reporting them to the police for illegal flytipping.

Having problem with Apex Roofing Fife

Having problem with Apex Roofing Fife. Called them in to inspect storm damage, end Jan 2025. Website shows a base in village of Colinsburgh, Fife. No company details other than showing as a 30+ year family-owned business.
No such business exists in Colinsburgh !!
I then assumed this to be a franchise and called the Apex Edinbugh office for clarification, and was told they had nothing at all to do with Apex Roofing, Fife !!!
Meantime they had agreed to do a temp repair to cover 2 roofing panels of an agricultural shed that had been torn off in bad gales.
They put a too-thin tarpaulin over the gap, badly secured by too thin timber battens......blew off after 12 hours. Im am now being informed that other people have had problems with poor workmanship and excessive over-pricing. Almost impossible to REALLY find out who owns the company and its true background

Take care when reading reviews for Apex…

Take care when reading reviews for Apex Roofing as there a quite a few DIFFERENT companies operating under this name. I have just employed Apex Roofing (Worcester) through Checkatrade following storm damage from last weekends exteme weather. George responded within a couple of hours and came round to look at the job and give me a quotation at the end of the day, and has fixed my ridge within 2 days. Very pleasant, polite and professional chap. Very competative price too.

Only hire an NFRC roofer

It is with regret I am writing this negative review, however, my experience with Apex this past year has been anything but positive.

I hired Apex in January 2023 to fix a leak that had developed over time. Previously, various patches and fixes had been tried, including putting trays in the loft to catch drips. I showed Apex the water stains on the bedroom ceiling as well as the trays in the loft to help them identify the location of the leak.

Apex suggested new uni dry ridge tiles to help the roof breathe and to fix the leak. I specifically questioned whether ridge tiles would fix the leak since it was nearer the bottom of the roof than the top. However, I was told the ridge tiles would fix the leak and a condensation problem. The cost was £ 1760.00.

In the process, Apex discovered a valley that needed to be replaced at a cost of £2500. However, even after spending a total of £4260.00, I had peace of mind knowing my roof was fixed and backed by their 100% guarantee.

However, during the first torrential rainstorm in autumn 2023, water came through the bedroom ceiling at the same spot where it always had. Apex came in December to inspect the leak. First they noted, “There is still quite a bit of condensation up here” (in the loft). Then they claimed the leak was new and had nothing to do with the work they had done. According to Apex, I needed another valley at a cost of £2750 to fix the “new” leak.

Apex refused to take any responsibility for not correctly identifying the source of the leak and fixing it the first time. Instead, they insisted that the work they HAD done was of high quality and had solved the issues I presented to them. They did offer to install tile vents for free since there was still a condensation problem, but that never happened.

I consulted Citizens Advice after trying to resolve the dispute via many emails. In the end there was no other option other than the additional expense and stress of taking Apex to court, which I decided against.

Instead, I hired an NFRC (National Federation of Roofing Contractors) accredited roofing company who were much more professional than Apex. To begin with, they took photos of the valley and the chimney, which were included in a very detailed quote of the work they would carry out. They pointed out that the verge had crumbled over the years into the valley, which caused the water to collect during heavy rains and then leak into the house. They also identified cracks in the chimney lead. When they removed the lead, they discovered there were no “soakers” underneath, something they had never seen before. The company fixed all of these for nearly £600 less than Apex had quoted for the valley.

My advice is to never hire a roofer who isn’t backed by the NFRC. Besides the professional quote and fair pricing, there is a national body to complain to if there is a dispute with the local company.
