Kind and sympathetic service

Our dog passed away, unexpectedly, while we were on the the phone to the vets. The lady in the phone couldn’t have been nicer. When we got there they came out to us and were so kind. Big thanks to all. Mr & Mrs Harvey

I wish I looked at reviews before I…

I wish I looked at reviews before I took my cat to this company, tried to phone my local axevallyvets at 8:30 in the morning because it’s 2 minutes from my only to be told there was nobody at the practice that could have a look at her so they sent me to another Axevallyvets that was 30 minutes away, as we got in there the lady had one look inside the basket I took her in and said she wasn’t well and had to take her to another Axevally practice which was another 30 minutes away, the lady at the desk took her in so I left her with them thinking she would be treated and be sent home within a couple of hours. She was only in there for two hours only to have a call saying she passed away and was quick enough to give me a bill of £800.. got absolutely nothing to do with money I would have paid them £10,000 knowing she had proper care. I just feel so bad as I didn’t even give her a proper cuddle and just left her with some strangers. I think the least they could have done is phoned and say they think she wasn’t going to be around for much longer and I would have gone straight there just to give her some love so I’ve got a lot of guilt on me now. Just for the first practice to say she wasn’t well is just a joke and charge you £80 for that is ridiculous

The one in Weston-super-Mare

The one in Weston-super-Mare. Are fantastic. I'm glad I found them before reading all them reviews. I'm not sure about them.
I do know about my experience with the Weston-super-Mare branch. They all are adorable around my nervous dog. And he not that nervous around them. I'm also a nervous fella. I'm not small but I have adhd and autism. So I don't like people that much. But they all are amazingly helpful and full of smiles. I can't fault the place.

Axe Valley vets are part of national…

Axe Valley vets are part of national chain/company. Unlike my last veterinary practice, which was independent and privately owned. National groups are far more interested in their profits than actually caring for pets. Unfortunately, this is a growing trend and it is hard to find an independent and privately owned veterinary practice. The people I met at the office are all very nice and friendly, but the vets are pressurised to oversell services to increase profits for the parent company.
I was charged £55 for some ear drops, not very expensive, but when I checked the veterinary online pharmacy, I had used with my previous vet, it cost £14.
I then asked if they would provide prescriptions to purchase online, they said yes at £38. My previous vet provided prescription at no charge. They said they only provided meds from they local stock, if the pet needed the product that day. It would be would be marginally more expensive, as they don’t buy meds in bulk like and online veterinary pharmacy.
Good luck finding an independent and privately owned veterinary practice in your area, and I hope they have not been influenced to put up prices and follow the example of the national groups.

I rang out of hours to ask for my cat…

I rang out of hours to ask for my cat to be put to sleep ,as she suffered a terrible injury from being run over . I was told the consultation would be £280 and for her to be put to sleep a further £80 on top . How awful to put a customer of many years with many pets through this ! Utter robbery !
Sadly my cat died on the way there . Since when does a dose of euthanasia drug cost £80 and why is it ethical to charge £280 for out of hours consultations to any patient , especially when they are registered! Truely awful! Won’t be taking my animals there again !

Axe Valley Vets Blackford ~ A catalogue of errors and misdiagnosis

Axe Valley Vets Blackford misdiagnosed my cat's symptoms multiple times, left her untreated, and in the space of a 5 minute conversation told me she had terminal Cancer, that all that was available was the Metacam pain medication that she was already taking, and that it was eventually going to stop working, and she would suffer and I would have to make the decision to have her put down.

We luckily had the foresight to ask to be refered to Langfords Veternary Hospital, who, (AT THAT POINT WITHOUT EVEN SEEING HER) looked at her test results from Axe Valley, and said that we don't agree with this diagnosis; based on all of the test results, her age, the fact that that type of Cancer is extremely rare, etc etc.
They diagnosed a routine and common medical issue and she was treated, and I'm so relieved to say, eventually made a full recovery.

Axe Valley Vets treated me appaulingly. On that day of diagnosis, the head receptionist Dawn, was extremely rude and arrogant towards me, and then she was whispering and talking negatively about me with her colleague, fully within earshot. I witnessed extremely unprofessional and inapropriate behaviour in the reception area between her and other staff, I heard her denegrating the vets, complaining about her workload, and all in front of a waiting room of clients.

I wrote to them to complain, and they didn't even reply to me.

I then took my complaint to the Vet Mediation Service and eventually I received an apology from the Practice Manager. It didn't really hold much weight to me due to the huge distress that the whole experience had caused me and my family. For a week, I believed that my young cat was going to suffer and die and the way that she delivered the news, I will simply never get over it.
Axe Valley are only concerned with profits, I witnessed overworked, stressed out and incompetent treatment. Their attitude stinks, quite frankly, and I wouldn't entrust them with the welfare of a Dustmite.

They missed signs and indications on all of her tests, they were armed with all the information. I am sure that the errors that I am now aware of are only the tip of the iceburg.

Please, if you have a choice, go to Langfords Vet Practice or Langfords Referal Hospital, as I started at. They treat your animals with extreme care, you are managed by a team of highly competent Vets, part of Bristol University. Their staff ALSO treat their clients with respect, the difference overall is like night and day

Rip off prices and just interested in profits

Axe Valley vets in Cheddar are far more interested in their profits than actually caring for the pets brought in. On my first visit to the Cheddar branch I was constantly price conditioned to expect a high vet bill after a short 5 minute consultation. My dog was very itchy and needed some medication to control his symptoms. I was sold medication that was supposed to help and none had any impact on his condition despite the medication being in excess of £300, £80 of this was just for a shampoo. I had a second consultation at the Blackford branch and was prescribed steroids that had an instant result and this branch was way more helpful.

Today I went to collect his next lot of medications and was charged £155 for Prednidale steroids that I have found are only £20 for the same tablets and strength on the internet. I accept that you may pay a bit more from a veterinary practice however, this is just a downright rip off. I will be going to another practice in future
