We are an independent group who have been caring for eyes for over 68 years. Established in 1957 by Frank Barraclough in St. Leonards and later joined by Peter Stiles, we gained a reputation founded on expertise combined with a kind and helpful manner.
Investing in the latest technology and equipment such as OCT imaging and Optomap® retinal scanning and keeping the practices modern and up to date has all helped in passing the 65 year milestone.
However, a significant contribution has been made by the people working in the company and a large proportion of our staff have been with us for many years enabling them to build excellent relationships with our clients. We're proud of the solid reputation we have built up over the years and will continue to deliver the very best possible service when it comes to eye care and customer care.

Great Opticians
I have used this firm to care for my eyes for over 30 years...they diagnosed my glaucoma early and referred me to the hospital for prompt treatment. I have also been impressed by the service and all the staff lovely. The new optician I saw a couple of days ago was efficient and informative it was a pleasure to have my eyes checked. I would only use this firm and would thoroughly recommend them.

Individual and empathic care
I was so grateful to be treated as a valued individual - sadly rare these days.
I reported sudden blurred vision, and was very promptly referred to the NHS. The problem turned out not to be an emergency, but it could have been, and was taken very seriously, potentially saving precious time.
I just want to say thank you for the thorough, and empathetic treatment I’ve been given, (and all with a warm smile!).

Best eye care in Bexhill on Sea
Nuleen gave me what was probably the most thorough eye examination I have ever had. She took the time to show me the results of the photos of my eyes.I found her demeanor to be friendly and felt comfortable during my examination which was carried out in a very professional manner, thanks also go to Joanne for helping me choose my new frames and lenses and carrying out the measurements, well done.

Very thorough eye examination
Very thorough eye examination. Referred me for a cataract procedure (which I was hoping they would do) but also managed to improve my vision significantly with new glasses. Personable and friendly too.

Kaydon is always treated so amazingly…
Kaydon is always treated so amazingly each and every time we come into store- Kaydon is Autistic and has Pathological Demand Avoidance, and every staff member uses a calm tone, and makes sure that Kaydon is aware of every step of the process, asking permission to measure his head for his new glasses etc, and just going above and beyond with his 101 questions, and rather specific requests! Its a shame that I can not remember the staff who were working yesterday, because they were all incredible- The optician herself was the kindest woman ever, calm, patient, understanding and seemed to have clicked with my son instantly, which is a rarity. Kaydon always looks forward to his optician appointments, and as a parent, I look forward to them too! Its always warm and welcoming, and Battle is a credit to your business, the ethos of the business, and is leading the way for Autism friendly services!

From Barracloughs I received a superb eye test, followed by sizing and fitting for two pairs of glasses - all incredibly thorough and detailed. I was really impressed with the service and the friendly staff. I highly recommend these opticians.

Was seen by Trevor Amey who was absolutely fantastic and such a lovely person . Great manner and very thorough and explained a lot of details to me on the xray etc . I felt listened to and did not feel rushed . I then chose my designer glasses with the help of Victoria ( lovely blonde lady ..hope thats her name ) who is on same wavelength as me and instinctively knew what type of thing I was looking for seeing as these were going to be a premium purchase this time round . I'm really looking forward to collecting my new specs !! Sarah x

Great Experience
I was given an excellent eye test by Ritz at Seaford followed by a very informative and considered consultation about lenses with Kate. I can't speak highly enough of the care shown to me at every stage of the process. My new lenses are helping a lot with my struggles with glare.

AMAZING STAFF
The gentleman who did my eye test, I don't know his name, was amazing. He was informed me of everything that was being done, every step of the way. And the lovely lady, again I do not know her name , who helped me choose my glasses, was amazing, happy, helpful and very friendly. I absolutely love going to have my eyes tested here because all of the staff are SO FRIENDLY AND AMAZING
