Poor workmanship, can't run a rail parallel, don't know white vs silver.
Unbeliebeable way to leave a "completed job". These we're appointed by mediquip to go my disabled mothers to install a hand rail one side of the stairs. The staircase does have a right hand double winder which makes it slightly more difficult as a DIY job but to a chippy, a walk in the park.
1st visit - The rails did not "flow" round the stairs, different heights between the different sections of rail with a 10-20mm gap between said sections. None of the rail was running parallel with the existing staircase hand rail the opposite side. Clearly see that 1 correct screw was used in the whole installation as it actually sits in the counter sunken hole within the bracket and is white (same colour as brackets). but the rest are bigger headed screws so guess what...... they sit proud. Not only that they are silver, not even the correct colour could be chosen! After going through the loops and expressing concerns with mainly the gaps inbetween the sections of rails was able to get a 2nd visit.
2nd Visit - Sent the same guy who removed the smaller pieces of rail and brackets, chucked some filler in the bracket holes and left. So she was left with 2 rails upwards and a straight rail along the back wall all with screw heads protruding out the bracket. After seeing that literally nothing had being "improved" I showed my mum several images from Google showing either mitred joints so the hand rail runs smoothly the entirety of the stairs failing that an option where brackets actually join the pieces of wood together to completely eliminate the possibility of getting skin pinched. This caused yet another phone call and another visit.
3rd Visit - Had Someone else come out. Whilst he was there he was confused how the previous guy had managed to install the upper rail at a different height but was able to rectify the angle and bought the rear hand rail up aswell. When I asked about mitres he advised that even though he was a carpenter he couldn't mitre due to company's policy but he had no issues doing it and that it wasn't that much more difficult to how he had installed them. After all it is literally just an angled cut. He did say that he would leave a note on the job that my mum still wasn't happy and that he would be happy to come back and mitre but worse case my mum might have to sign some sort of waiver.
A week later my mum receives a quote through the door to the value of £640+ VAT, this was for
- Removing existing rails
- Fill holes and light rub down
- Supply + Fit rails
- Continuous rail and mitred joints where possible.
After receiving this letter I myself have got in touch with Besure who After speaking to the receptionist said that Andy would contact myself. Credit where it is due, Andy did call back and in a nutshell said he was happy to leave as is in the current state as it was adequate enough. Said that they didn't have the correct schematic for the first guy who come round twice that's why it was installed wrong, then when mentioned the incorrect screws used, comes back and says it is an "aesthetic" matter. Errrrrr no simply use the correct ones, which may have even come with the brackets and rail of bought as a bundle. But shall this not be possible or they are missing then at the very least matching the colour and/or the correct head size is not a hard task.
That sums up this review!
