My bonsai journey
Recently began my bonsai journey and needed a wiring kit. This starter kit is just what I was after. It arrived in good time and communication re delivery times was spot on. I’ve not used it yet but I’m looking forward to giving it a go using the helpful guide that came with it.

We are very sorry to hear your bonsai has sadly not survived. We do appreciate how disappointing that can be.
From our previous conversations, we understand the bonsai was being kept in the kitchen. Unfortunately, kitchens are often one of the more difficult environments for bonsai due to fluctuating temperatures, steam, cooking heat, drafts, and lower light levels, which can place the tree under stress over time.
The free sapling remaining healthy is encouraging, although saplings generally require quite different care conditions and are often more adaptable than mature bonsai trees.
We genuinely did try our very best to help with aftercare advice and troubleshooting throughout, and we are sorry the tree could not be recovered in this instance. Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback, and we do hope your sapling continues to thrive.

OUTSTANDING SERVICE
I have been dealing with Bonsai Direct since 2013. I have had both my successes and failures; sadly, all the trees I bought in the early days died.
However, I have learned from my mistakes.
In 2019 I bought a Jade Bonsai. She is still alive today; although she is shedding a lot of leaves at the moment. Bonsai Direct have told me that she is "leggy", and have returned one of my pictures with lines drawn on it to show where I should prune, as I have never pruned before, and am quite nervous about it.
Bonsai Direct are a truly ethical company. They care about the trees which they sell, and treat them as living things rather than a commodity.
They are always on hand to help after purchase; your relationship with them doesn't end when you have paid for the tree.
Ordering is (too!!!!) easy!
Delivery is excellent; the trees always arrive well packed and well hydrated, wrapped around with bubble-wrap to keep them upright.
The quality of the trees ordered is excellent; they always arrive in the peak of good health. Sadly, it takes some of us one or two attempts to get it right and keep the tree alive. 😢
I would highly recommend Bonsai Direct. They grow their own trees. Your relationship with them doesn't end the moment the tree is paid for and delivered; if there is a problem they will always offer advice post purchase.
Five star trees, and five star service from truly knowledgeable and caring individuals!

My partner has wanted a bonsai for ages…
My partner has wanted a bonsai for ages so thought I’d treat him to one for his birthday. Found bonsai direct and thought the range of starter kits was great, so ordered one of those. Given that I ordered it on a Friday before a bank holiday weekend, I knew it wouldn’t likely come til the Tue, but it arrived Saturday afternoon! My partner loves it, he’s now called Bonzo!

The 12 year old Bonsai tree I purchased…
The 12 year old Bonsai tree I purchased was indeed a wonderful tree. But sadly, the pot shown on their website was not the one that was delivered with the tree. The pot the tree came in was 18x12cm, and not 19x14cm as advertised, plus it was of a plain navy blue straight sided design.

We sincerely apologise that the expectation of variation was not made clear enough on this particular product listing at the time of purchase. Thanks to your feedback, we have now updated the product information to better explain that bonsai / pots for our "generic" range may vary slightly in style and dimensions between individual (premium range) bonsai trees.

Ordered a bonsai pot and drip tray
Ordered a bonsai pot and drip tray. Both are really poor quality. For £40 you've sold me a bonsai pot no thicker than slate. It's as light as a feather. Send me details of how to send this back to you. No use to me. I will not be buying anything from here again.

There's absolutely no suggestion of details you have gone into in these emails you keep sending me. Within the space of 15 minutes I've had 3 emails asking me to review the pot so there it is.
To suggest the images, in your emails to myself, have cracks in the pots are obscene. You clearly fail to mention that these pots are featherweight in design yet I've provided you with an image of what a bonsai pot requirements should be and was completely dismissed. Furthermore, I won't be taking the review down. I have purchased another pot from a reputable seller for half the price and is far superior in quality. This is to warn future buyers of a potential purchase.
I also neglected to mention. If your firing process is constructed in such a refined and professional manner. Why does my pot, purchased from yourselves, have jagged razor like points on the edges? Photos sent.

We did respond when you reached out, requesting photos so we could take a closer look, but you haven't included these in your response. We have since requested photos again but we haven’t received a response yet. If you’re able to send these over, it would really help us assess the situation properly.
That said, the pot supplied is a premium bonsai pot, and they are intentionally made to be relatively thin but they are of excellent quality. This is standard in bonsai cultivation, allowing for proper drainage, root health and balance. We’ve been growing and supplying bonsai commercially for many years using these exact types of pots - we have never had a complaint about them or had an issue using them ourselves.
Of course, if the item isn’t suitable for your needs, we’re more than happy to accept your return. We’ll provide full return instructions upon your response.

Thank you for your further feedback. Having now seen the bonsai pots you were previously using, we believe there may simply have been a misunderstanding regarding the style and quality of the pot supplied.
The pots you had before were a thicker, more standard chunky style of bonsai pot. These were standard pots. In contrast, the pot and matching drip tray we supplied are a more refined, higher-grade ceramic bonsai pot designed in a traditional style. Premium bonsai ceramics are often made thinner and lighter intentionally, as this reflects a higher quality finish and craftsmanship rather than lower quality.
A good comparison would be ceramic mugs or plates — finer, thinner ceramics are generally considered more premium and are often more expensive than thicker, heavier alternatives. The same applies to quality bonsai pottery.
We have used and supplied these pots for many years within our own bonsai nursery and have found them to be excellent quality both aesthetically and practically for bonsai cultivation.
Of course, we completely understand that personal preference plays a part, and if the style was not what you expected, you are welcome to return it. The pot received is exactly as per the photograph.
We would kindly ask if you would consider updating or removing your review, as we genuinely feel this situation stems from a misunderstanding about the type and quality of traditional bonsai ceramics supplied.

We have had 5 updates this morning concerning this via Trustpilot and I cannot follow the thread. Some of the information you are removing so there is no logical trail.
Poor customer service.
My son bought me a flowering cherry for Mothers Day. On arrival it didn't look too healthy but perked up a bit on the window sill after I fed and watered it as per instructions. However it soon died off. Contacted company and they didn't want to know because they said as it was an outside bonsai it should have been outside. Their instructions said protect from frost, which I felt I did by keeping it indoors for a week or so, during which time there were frosty nights. Very disappointed in their response and felt they should have replaced it.

I am sorry that you are disappointed with our customer service. We have tried very hard to help you, but unfortunately we are unable to replace bonsai that have not been cared for as per our guidance. The bonsai that you were gifted is a deciduous outdoor variety, which cannot be kept inside. We try to make it as clear as possible on our product description and care guide which you received with the tree. We suggest protecting the bonsai from long periods of harsh frosts to ensure they do not dry out, but we have never said it should be kept indoors.
Being a deciduous variety, the bonsai was just coming into leaf when you received it. We thoroughly check all of our bonsai before dispatching them to ensure they are perfectly healthy. When you received yours, it would have just been finishing flowering and beginning to leaf up. We understand that this may not look amazing when you receive it, but the magic was just starting.
We have tried our very best to offer you help and advice, and our bonsai expert responded to all of your questions as quickly as possible with a multitude of advice and guidance. We feel that it is unfair to say that ‘we did not want to know’ after spending so much time trying to help you get the most from your bonsai. We understand that it can be disappointing to lose a bonsai, but unfortunately we are unable to replace a bonsai that has not been cared for correctly, as per our T&Cs. As a family run business with a passion for growing bonsai, we want all of our customers to get the most out of their bonsai, and we really do try and help. We really hope that you will continue exploring the world of bonsai.

Recently purchased a bonsai tree from Bonsai Direct. Besides DPD delaying the delivery, the Bonsai was well protected in the packaging and had been watered prior to delivery.
