Chris Bowers & Sons Avis 

Beware. Bought 2 varieties of dessert green seedless grape for this company and trained them over 5 years in a greenhouse. They are mature now but need removal as they have only ever had small (3-4mm) black inedible seeded grapes (a single seed fills each grape). Clearly rogue vines, and certainly not as ordered, but my correspondence with the company received a dismissive response advising me to wait longer, and then silence. Save yourselves time and money – shop elsewhere.

They offer to sell a huge variety of apple trees which is so tempting, but in practice I've found that the variety you order is not the variety you get. This isn't a one-off. They've done this to me TWICE now. It takes a couple of years to discover the problem, then that is a couple of years of your growing life wasted. DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY!!!

Ordered two apple trees which arrived in good time, well packaged, and in good condition. They seem to be doing alright in the ground. Found a good selection of varieties online including the specific ones I was after on the rootstock I needed. I also appreciated the follow up customer service email which inquired about any issues *before* prompting me to write a review. I plan on buying from them in future based on this experience.

Excellent information on the website to make a choice of Cherry Tree. Efficient delivery with paper packaging & extremely reasonable delivery costs. Good follow up and speedy response to my questions about watering after planting. Very good experience

I ordered three fruit trees, which were delivered, but 1 refused to grow and remains a stick. I contacted Chris Bowers first for advice and then for a replacement. Despite several emails, I have received no replacement. I will be going to 'rootsplants' for replacement, so much better to deal with.

I ordered 3 trees from Chris Bowers ; a morello , nectarine and an apricot . All three arrived in very good shape having been well packaged . They were all considerably larger than I'd expected so my hopes are high for the future , ( I am a gardening novice !) All three are now doing well in their new home . Thanks for all the advice and links you emailed to me as to how to care for them and all the pitfalls that could occur , this was very helpful . I was surprised that the price was so reasonable for such large trees , especially the morello but am certainly not complaining !

Ordered some blackberry bushes and two weeks later noticed that the charge had been refunded to my credit card. No explanation, no communication at all. A very odd way to conduct a business!

One to be very careful of, perhaps try another supplier. Wrong type of tree supplied (turned out to be a currant) company required shipment of sample for proof of their error at my cost. Customer services rude and then unresponsive. No replacement tree or refund. I don’t think it’s a scam I think just perhaps struggling. I’d avoid.

Ordered a dwarf plum on pixy rootstock in 2020, it took 5 years to fruit but also grew to 20ft, pixy, dwarf not a chance. Curt response to my email, it’s my fault suckers revert to greengage, apart from the fact we had no suckers. Terrible customer service, awful company to deal with. The customer is always right does not apply to Chris Bowers.

Like most reviewers I strongly recommend AVOIDING this company. I ordered 6 columnar cherry trees. Four are fine, but two of them were on the wrong (not Pygmy…) rootstock, and grew so fast they threatened to destroy my fruit cage. I wrote politely to the company, sending photo and invoice proof but they just didn’t want to know. Reading the reviews here my experience was by no means unusual - in fact very much the norm. If you read reviews of CRJ Fruits, which appears to be another trading name, they are even worse. I simply don’t understand how this bunch have got a 4 star review when so many people have the same experience of not getting what they ordered. Customer service was unhelpful to non-existent. I get the feeling they are swamped by complaints, and choose not to engage with customers they have let down. So no - don’t risk buying from this company. You won’t know for some years if you have got what you ordered, and will then have clearly very little chance of getting the mistake put right. We’ll have to dig our trees out before they destroy the fruit cage - so that’s another expense, in addition to the lost money. Not happy. Incidentally we bought a blueberry which failed from a company called Keepers (with whom I have absolutely no relationship…) The contrast could not have been more stark. An instant apology and a lovely new plant sent straight out by return. So they may be worth a look.

I was searching for the unusually named American Mother apple tree and found it at Chris Bowers.
I'm new to gardening so know nothing - not even the basics really! But I wanted to stock my new-build empty square of a garden with native and/or interesting plants. I remembered on one of our first trips to the Roseland we'd bought American Mother apples at a farmyard and had been intrigued by the name. So I searched on Google for it, Chris Bowers had it and with a wealth of growing information too - AND they had an apple tree called Cornish Gillieflower first discovered here in Truro way back in the mid 19th century! Well I had to have that too!
So nice to see a wide variety of fruit trees, and not just the usual suspects.
Reasonable prices, first rate delivery/packaging and online advice too should I have any queries.

My tree was delayed in arriving, when it did, it was not in good shape, I emailed and sent photos, to which the response was 'it looks perky to me', when I informed them my gardener said it had a disease of some kind, I was then informed my gardener was incorrect. I find the attitude of whoever is responding the emails atrocious, they wouldn't give me a name either. I asked about returns, told to follow T&C... not help whatsoever. I am not going to bother but I will in future, not purchase from this store.

I bought a cordon damson tree from this company, which finally fruited after 5 years but instead of damsons it produced a solitary pear! Clearly I was sent the wrong tree but the company won't do anything about it because "their records do not go back 5 years"! I bought 4 other cordons from them at the same time and they have also been disappointing. One so-called Discovery apple has never fruited so could be anything! I would be very wary about dealing with this company.

3 columnar fruit trees purchased 3 years ago. The plum has never fruited and is clearly not a dwarf rootstock as it’s growing wildly although still not fruiting. The 2 apples are not the varieties we ordered and neither are successful columns. All have shown evidence of canker. We did try contacting company many times regarding the trees, very poor or no communication. Really wouldn’t recommend.

Very good communication. Ordered 2 x fruit trees which were carefully wrapped and delivered. Pleased with the size and condition. Definitely purchase again. Highly recommend.
