Everlast Gyms - Halifax Avis 19

I tried this gym today using a free day pass.
The staff were really friendly and the atmosphere in the gym was chilled out. Excellent modern equipment to work on every muscle in different ways.
The swimming pool and steam room facilities are all inclusive.
I signed up to a year's membership before I left, plus, a bit of blue light discount on top. Bonus!

Today was my 2nd day having joined the gym. This is a great place and was nervous as a newbie- I needn't have worried. Thank you Alex PT who did my intro. Everyone is friendly and some of the big boys have given me a bit of direction if I looked unsure. I met a couple about my age really friendly and encouraging. I've been swimming as well which is perfect for me as don't like deep water ( it's all one level ).
Everyone at reception always helpful.
If you join- remember a pad lock for locker.

Genuine scam company. Was conned into signing up for a year when I was told I was cancelling my account. Paid unknowingly for 6 months and when I contacted the membership team it was like talking to a brick wall. Everlast Halifax cancelled eventually but then the membership team tried to make me pay £140. Complaint is ongoing.
When there is so much choice in gyms thesedays, why would you pick these scam artists? The gyms are rubbish anyway.

The equipment at this gym is very outdated and limited, especially when compared to a proper Everlast gym. At other branches, the machines are modern, well-maintained, and there’s a good variety, but Halifax feels neglected in comparison.

On top of that, the steam room has been out of order for months, and it’s quite disappointing (and embarrassing) that management hasn’t addressed it.Other than, we are waiting for a quote…

For the price they charge, you’d expect better facilities and being similar to what an actual Everlast gym should be like. Honestly, if Halifax had another gym with a swimming pool, I’d switch immediately.

Signed up because it had a steam room. Its been shut now for over 2 months, when asked staff when it will be fixed they seem totally disinterested. Its a shame because otherwise its a good gym with a pool and decent facilities.

Came back to this gym after a break of a couple of years only because it has a pool but found it's filthy, often has broken machines, the pool ceiling is taped together from since I left, lockers don't work, no spray or roll in the gym area, the steam room has been out of service for months, they used to have a jacuzzi but shut it down, the showers don't work tiles are broken shower doors don't close and they smell and make weird noises. The staff are hideous and never acknowledge you a hello or a goodbye. Don't waste your money here. There absolutely nothing good about this place.

They offer membership for £2 for the first month but after 12 months when you try to cancel they actually say it’s 13 months. So really the first month does not count for your 12 month membership. So do not be caught out with false information they give you.
Also on the cleanliness of the gym is not very good. The showers & pool area not been updated since the day it was built over 20years ago.

A new app was launched on Tuesday 10/09/24 which allows members to check into the gym and book onto classes. The launch of this app failed and many of the 4,000 members of the Halifax gym have fallen off the system and cannot access anything including access to the gym. This is NOT the first time the app has been updated and failed to perform. The IT department need to test any new updates thoroughly before going live. Extra staff need to be on the reception desk to help guide people through this minefield, and a dedicated team need to be assigned to putting this right. We are now 3 days in and still no improvement. I have now, along with many others fallen off the system!!!! ( but not the system that takes my monthly subscription!!!!)

Went yesterday and used the in body scan machine, no signage to say this had charge or was to be used by pt staff and machine is on gym floor. Manager and staff member came over and had diabolical attitude demanding we paid to use the in body scan machine, we pointed out no signage and they left logged in, eventually backed down but terrible attitude. Be aware whilst able to get into the in body scan machine by pressing exit on top right of the pin screen, there is a charge for this machine which there is apparently a sign near the till away from the machine, however I couldn’t see any signs there. Unwilling to take feedback to put out signage on machine and staff felt like they were very confrontational and needing to have a go for sake of it.

Hygiene issues: I left this gym because they provide no paper towels or spray to wipe down the equipment in the main gym. I've complained about this previously and told it was the decision of the owner Mile Ashley. All they provide in the main gym are alcohol dispensers for your hands. This annoyed me for a couple of reasons, both of my parents are vulnerable and I ended up catching several chest infections last year (possibly from the gym) and I had to limit my time with my mum who recently passed away. Secondly I have hyrdosis and sweat excessively so wiping it down with my towels didn't work and only transferred sweat from machine to another. I also used the spin class and it was hit and miss as to if they provided the wipes or not.

Overall on balance the classes are decent but the gym equipment is a bit tired and run down. I think with some tweaks it could be a three star as the facilities even if they are a bit dated like the equipment are still decent. Still it deserves a 2 star because I've tried a number of local gyms before setting on a new one such as Valley view, and Pure gyms and all provide paper towels and equipment to wipe down the bikes. P.s. this isn't a pop at those who clean the gym who are working hard with the time and resource they have. After all we learnt in COVID we should be making it easy to clean down the bikes and encouraging good hygiene practices to stop silent killers such as meningitis, flu etc.

I have been a member of this gym a couple
of years now. The sole reason I am a member is because it has a pool and many of the council ones are always pre booked by schools.

There used to be a jacuzzi but they had it taken away. The pool temperature fluctuates between freezing and unbearable to swim in.
The air con failed in the ladies changing rooms over a year ago and they are still using a portable thing that looks like a dehumidifier and blagging people it will one day get fixed.
The sunbed and pay to use weighing scales in the ladies changing rooms were also removed. No towel hire available.
The music from neighbouring studios is sometimes at an awful level.
And on a weekend it closes at 6pm.
Just why???
On the bright side, the staff seem alright.
If Halifax get another gym with pool I will definitely move to it.

Awful gym!
Showers are full of mold!
Pool is filthy!
Gym itself is shabby and neglected!
Other uses have zero respect for others!
Staff are ignorant (with one exception)!
With Pure Gym and now JD Gym in the same town, join them. They are cleaner and better value for money.

Signed up for a 12 month membership on the basis of emergency service discount- five months in find out that no discount was applied and apparently it's my fault for not noticing. When I tried to resolve it they tried to enter me into a new 12 month contract. Terrible customer service, appalled.

So this gym is literally a ****hole the showers are dirty hair everywhere machines are always dusty to death the reception staff get away with speaking to you like crap they brush everything under the carpet
The customer service is unreal disgusting you complain nothing gets done the way I was spoken to today was disgusting my belongings were Thieved the lack of help and support I got was shocking it was like the staff were laughing at me because I w had no towel to dry my self with and no clothes to wear the reception staff is disgusting and the new staff have no idea about customer service.

Vile someone theifed my belonging was left without a towel soaking wet asked for some help the lady laughed and was sooo clueless and walked off disgusting service
Absolutely shocking for her not to understand my situation mocked me on the way out when I asked why she just laughed in my face the chav working at reception was maii.

Halifax gym is a disgusting gym, female manager clueless on customer service or mental health, had complain to mr Murray and dannial summerson, bad company bad gym halifax don't use these at all , Mr caddick

Stay away from this gym. They make it impossible to get out of a contract. I have given written and verbal notice and they say they cannot cancel the membership because there is £30 outstanding. I am out of the 12 month period though and gave plenty of notice. I also put a complaint in about the facilities at the Halifax gym and they totally declined the complaint. They admitted the facilities were often out of use but said that it was in my contract that they can be (even though the pool was once closed for a month). Terrible company. They are saying that £30 will continue to be added to the "debt" every month despite the notice that I have given. Avoid at all costs.
