Poor diagnosis and unjustified charges – Newark branch

I had a very disappointing experience with Formula One Autocentres in Newark following an MOT in March 2026.
My vehicle had an issue with the handbrake mechanism. Before any work was carried out, I explained to the mechanic that this is a known issue with a simple fix (I even showed supporting evidence). I was told not to worry and that their specialist would check it.
This was completely ignored. Instead, I was advised that I needed a replacement handbrake cable. I followed this advice in good faith, sourced the part, and wasted time and money unnecessarily.
After collecting the car, I inspected it myself and fixed the issue within minutes using the exact method I originally suggested. This clearly shows the problem was misdiagnosed and not properly investigated.
Despite this, I was charged £65.42 + VAT for a “labour investigation” which did not result in a correct diagnosis or solution.
Additional concerns:

The suggested repair (new cable) was incorrect
My input as a customer was dismissed without proper assessment
I did not receive my invoice electronically despite multiple attempts
Their response blamed delays rather than addressing the incorrect diagnosis

I raised this formally, but the refund was refused.
Overall, I feel I was charged for incompetent diagnosis and poor service. I would not recommend this branch based to anybody wanting fair service.

Super quick support.

Had small issue with car as heading away on holiday. Staff fit us straight in and 10 mins later we were on our way.

First class! I was treated very well & quickly. The guys who helped me explained everything fully & advised me correctly. I will definitely be going there again when I need to!

I had my vehicle serviced here in 2025

I had my vehicle serviced here in 2025, but a later inspection at another garage found the sump plug had been incorrectly re-threaded. This caused damage that meant it couldn’t be refitted, leaving me with no choice but to replace the sump tank at my own expense. Very disappointing experience and costly outcome. Never using them again.
I contacted Formula 1 regarding the issue, but they declined to take responsibility or offer any compensation.

Not heard back from my 2nd email nor after contacting them via their reply to this!

I only give 2 stars because of the…

I only give 2 stars because of the finance department. The service and MOT in Newark was excellent. The finance department took 2 amounts of £225.50. I am still in dispute 3 months later. Would be very cautious how payment is made. Won't be using them again.

Update 28/09/25 STILL WAITING for Formula one to investigate and offer an explanation....
....10/July/25 Cowboys. Had 2 tyres fitted and a free tracking check on 10 July 2025. Drivers tyre keeps deflating and been back to F1 another 3 times for repair. Have to wait for appointment each time to get tyre sorted because they are so busy. Tyre still going down 👇 17 Aug 25. Apparently did tracking check and everything was ok, apparently the knocking sound going round corners was my exhaust. Wasn't satisfied with what they said about tracking so went to Kwik fit 4 days after tyres fitted and got another tracking check, they said tracking was way out and T-Bar was badly worn, if not sorted my new tyres would wear fast. Yes was cheap tyres but they should still work and not have to keep pumping up every few days. Invoice: WEB68525008A @ Newark NG24

"taking parts off your car and charging…scam

"taking parts off your car and charging you to put them back on." This is a common scam tactic used by dishonest mechanics. It involves removing a functioning part, claiming it's broken, and then charging you for a replacement and reinstallation.

After having a terrible experience with…

After having a terrible experience with the locality manager at the Lincoln branch I used the Newark branch this time. What a complete turn around, professional, helpful and will definitely be back. It’s a shame you have such a rude, arrogant regional manager but thumbs up to all at Newark, excellent service

They need to use protection on steering wheels

Good service and price but they didn’t use any protection on the steering wheel and seats so by the time I’d driven to my next appointment my hands were covered in grease.
Phone call from Area Manager today to apologise and offer email for future discount. Shouldn’t have to complain but good to see a company putting things right, well done F1

Help in an emergency

I picked up a puncture on our journey for a weekend away to York. We would have been stranded and the weekend ruined without the help of the staff at F1 in Newark. They were obviously busy but were sympathetic, displayed a can do attitude, were really helpful and managed to get us fitted in and back on the road. Doug was particularly helpful. Cannot pass on my thanks enough. It was excellent customer service and a complete contrast to Kwikfits attitude up the road. Well done Doug & F1. You have our thanks.

Fantastic service

Fantastic service. Just had new front and rear brakes pads done. Just amaze how quick they did the work. Took the car in 8.30am and it was ready by 10.10am. We'll done lads keep it up.
