Gasmate Galaxy BBQ
We purchased a Gasmate Galaxy from Harvey Norman because we wanted a good quality Australian bbq to fit into our newly renovated outdoor bbq area (Harvey Norman told us these are Australian but the company is a multinational). Prior we had a Ziegler (Ziggy) bbq that was great but wanted to fit out a kitchen area so we purchased the Galaxy. From the onset it burned out steaks and meat despite having all burners on low. We alerted Gasmate within 3 weeks of purchase (we didn’t cook with hit straight away) and they rejected our complaint and dismissed our claim under the ACCC consumer rights and guarantees. Gasmate was condescending and in their response did not focus on the main issues being the bbq cooks only high heat, slow cooking or rare meat would be very difficult if not untenable to produce and or medium rare meat can only be achieved by constantly flipping the steak and cooking 1 at a time. Under the consumer guarantee the bbq is not fit for purposes or acceptable quality. It is impossible to clean under the grill plates. We had a manager and ex chef come over and demonstrate how to use the bbq, we agreed. He attempted to cook 1 piece of steak to medium rare and couldn’t without flipping it constantly ( eg 15 times) to stop it burning, despite claiming this is how the bbq is intended to work the Harvey Norman rep did concede it is “high heat bbq”. For $4000 this bbq is very poor.
