Awful customer service

Having read the other reviews, it is clear this is not an infrequent experience. Although the gym facilities are adequate, the customer service team are incredibly poor. As a customer, please be very careful signing anything without doing extensive personal research yourself, as their employee’s mistakes will be placed upon you financially, with no refund. The responses from the customer service team can pretty much be summarised as illogical, unempathetic, and robotic, the complete opposite of what any customer would hope for.

When signing up, I was not offered the discounted rate that is available for students, and was not even aware of it as I signed up with a representative in the gym following a tour, and authorised it that evening. After one month of payment was deducted from my account, I became aware of this and contacted the customer service team in hopes for a resolution. They agreed that I belonged on the discounted rate and moved me to it, but not after taking long enough to respond that a second payment was taken. After discussion, somehow, Angel in the team believes that (as they claim this is what they train their staff to do) I must have been offered the discounted rate and merely ignored it and chose to pay a higher price? This is absurd.. there are no advantages to the higher rate and my degree begun well before I signed up. In conclusion, they have refused to refund the additional amount, unless I somehow obtain written documentation of the discussion I had with the representative in the gym - which is clearly unlikely to happen, given the discussion was months ago.

I wouldn’t recommend anyone to join this gym. I’ve been a member in two gyms and it goes from ok to bad experience. Old street gym was ok, then I joined Faringdon . They have increased the monthly fee. I thought if you’re a loyal member, it should be the opposite, but not with Gymbox. They have also introduced the freeze fee. I’ve changed my workplace and got a knee injury. They’re refusing to terminate the contract and threaten with collection agency. It’s better to have one time sessions for the same fee or less. Gym was very crowded at the lunch time, no classes of my interest during the weekend or late evening. Broken sauna . Now arguing with their customer service

Overcrowding and cost cutting

Since the group has been bought out last year I have noticed a signifiant deteroiation in customer service and gym experience. They are offering siginifcant joining incentives - the Victoria gym is extremely over crowded with not enough lockers for everyone. They stopped providing coniditioner in the shower rooms. Equipment is not tidied up and therefore can never find anything.

While GymBox Farringdon's facilities…

While GymBox Farringdon's facilities are well-maintained (could do with a few more cleaners), their customer service falls significantly short of expectations.

The membership management must be outsourced to offshore administrators who seem disconnected from the gym's operations and members' needs [If its in-house, disgruntled employees].

My experience with cancellation has been particularly frustrating - despite initially receiving approval to end my membership early, because of reduced facilities, this was later reversed by another administrator without proper explanation. The lack of consistency and communication between their team members is concerning.

Their disorganised approach to customer service and administrative matters makes for an unnecessarily complicated and unpleasant experience. I would strongly advise potential members to carefully consider these administrative challenges before committing to a membership when many other [nicer] gyms are nearby.

GYMBOX FINSBURY PARK

Very bad customer service,they only care about you joining and taking your money so they can get a commission,i was interested in joining so i emailed them to send me the membership prices,they just sent me the price list,I emailed them twice about negotiating the membership and just got the same price list again without any reply about my negotiation,2nd email got no reply.

Invited us to visit gym on pretense of…

Invited us to visit gym on pretense of promotion no membership fee. Then proceeded to charge my card £30 for what I thought was payment toward the monthly fee.. Turns out it was for 15 min of showing me around the gym. Didn't go through with membership called the next day to cancel and have a refund, lighting in there is bad for my epilepsy. I was told no refund even though I cancelled within 14 days as I had been shown around the gym. Why are companies allowed to abuse and use poor people. These acts are the same as being pickpocketed on the streets. Shameful

DO NOT SIGN UP FOR THIS GYM UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.

This gym is nothing short of a scam. Their cancellation policies are incredibly misleading and designed to trap you into paying for services you don't want or need. You will find it nearly impossible to cancel your membership without a hassle, and even when you do, you’ll be met with unfair fees and practices. On top of that, the gym itself is an absolute nightmare. The space is ridiculously small, with no room to move around or enjoy a decent workout. It’s overcrowded, and the lack of personal space makes it uncomfortable at best. If you’re not a fan of working out while constantly bumping into others and dealing with sweat from people around you, this is definitely not the place for you. The entire experience is a nightmare, and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. Save yourself the stress and frustration—stay away from this gym. It’s by far the worst experience I’ve ever had to deal with.

GymBox? More Like ScamBox—Save Your Money, Babe

GymBox? Babe, don’t even get me started. £150 a month—NOT 24 hours, by the way—so what exactly am I paying for? A gold-plated dumbbell? A personal violinist to play while I squat? ‘Cause it sure ain’t convenience.

And let’s talk about the real workout here—dodging blokes who think ‘Need a spot?’ is a chat-up line. Honestly, it’s like a nightclub with protein shakes. I come here to train, not to play ‘Swipe Left’ in real life. If I wanted that, I’d just go stand outside a Wetherspoons in gym leggings.

But the best part? Try cancelling. You’d think I was divorcing the CEO. Calls, emails, begging letters—short of faking my own death, there’s no way out. At this point, I might as well just keep paying and move in.

Absolute scam, babes. Avoid

SCAM DONT JOIN

I asked GYMBOX to freeze my membership on 9th of January, which was way in advance (starting from February 1st), and guess what? It was of course never actioned and they kept taking my money. Reaching support was absolutely useless, they only care about taking money and not their customers. I won't even going to mention the experience with the gym itself, classes are amazing, but staff is rude and unprofessional, cleaner took my charger once whist i was in the loo. No apologies nothing. This should not be the experience or service for the price you pay.

Avoid Gymbox – Unethical Billing Practices

If you’re considering a Gymbox membership, think twice—this company prioritises squeezing money out of customers over fairness or integrity.

After freezing my membership, I followed their cancellation process, only to have them remove my freeze without consent and attempt to charge me for a month I had no intention of using. Their justification? A conveniently buried clause in their T&Cs that serves no purpose other than forcing extra payments from members who are already leaving.

Rather than acting in good faith, Gymbox seems intent on trapping customers with predatory policies and deceptive practices. If you ever need to freeze or cancel, expect hidden charges, inflexible rules, and zero willingness to engage in reasonable discussion.

Their gyms may have the high-energy vibe they market so aggressively, but their customer service is nothing but corporate greed in action. Do yourself a favor—choose a gym that respects its members.

Gym is decent and there is a good amount of available equipment if you don’t go at peak times.

My rating is a warning for any pregnant or expecting mothers who might decide to go to this gym - cancel your account before you give birth - DO NOT FREEZE YOUR ACCOUNT. This gym operates like a large corporate, and should you experience any postpartum injuries which require you to cancel after you give birth, this gym will still make you pay your final month cancellation notice (even if you cannot use the gym itself during this time). There is no compassion or understanding when it comes to unforeseen injuries. So cancel your account before you go on maternity! Reading other reviews on here, it looks like this is a larger theme for the gym overall, so make plans accordingly if you choose this gym as your local.

I signed up for a Gymbox membership but…

I signed up for a Gymbox membership but quickly realized the facilities were not what I expected. Their own terms state that members can cancel before the membership begins for a £55 cancellation fee. I requested cancellation within the allowed timeframe, yet Gymbox has refused to honor their own policy and is now trying to force me into a 12-month contract that hasn’t even officially started.

Customer service has been unhelpful, ignoring my request and providing misleading responses. This experience has been frustrating, and I wouldn’t recommend Gymbox to anyone who values transparency and fair treatment.

Very bad service. I wrote to them by email about cancelling my subscription.I was told in a reply email that someone will contact me within 5 working days. This has never happened.No one ever contacted me. I will simply contact my bank asking that they automatically reject all form of direct debit going forward.

Scammers

Scam! Stay away from this gym. They lie about how easy it is to get out of the 12 months contract and get you to sign up for a 12 month contract but when your circumstances change, they simply point out the terms and conditions.

Misleading Membership Freeze Policy

Gymbox advertised on their website that freezing a membership is "never a problem," creating the impression that their freeze policy is flexible and unrestricted. However, when I attempted to freeze my membership starting February 11, 2025, I was told this was not possible because freezes can only begin on the first of a calendar month. This contradicts the advertised statement, as the restrictions were not disclosed clearly. This is also a mismatch between their marketing materials and their terms and conditions.

This is misleading and potentially breaches the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008 by giving customers a false impression of the flexibility of their service.

Even though I have supporting evidence, including screenshots of the website and correspondence from Gymbox, they are still refusing my request.

Review: Gymbox - A Money-Grab Scam, Avoid at All Costs

I highly advise anyone considering Gymbox to steer clear. The whole experience has been a massive disappointment, and it’s clear they’re only interested in getting your money rather than providing any real value. They lure you in with false claims of "special offers" and "premium gym facilities," but as soon as you're signed up, reality hits hard.

The staff, especially Joel (the manager), Freya, and the entire customer service team, are the worst when it comes to handling concerns. They’ll happily take your money and promise you one thing, but the actual experience is a far cry from what’s advertised. The gym isn’t as premium as they make it seem, and the equipment and environment aren’t worth the high price they charge.

What’s worse is the lack of transparency. When you voice concerns or ask for help, they completely ignore your issues or try to make excuses. They're only interested in getting you to sign up so they can pocket their commissions, and once they have your money, you’re on your own. There’s zero accountability or customer care here.

In short, Gymbox is a classic example of a business more focused on profits than customer satisfaction. Do yourself a favor and find a gym that actually values its members. Stay away from Gymbox!

They lied and now say I owe £250 !!!

I’ve recently tried to cancel my membership due to relocation of my job. When I signed up I was told that this wouldn’t be a problem, should this situation arise, and I’d be able to do so without hassle, or any additional cost.

Since I’ve attempted to cancel they’re attempting to take me for almost 250 pounds in the form of a cancellation fee !!!

Absolutely disgusting from gymbox, wouldn’t recommend at all !!!
