Users beware
Users beware. I have extensive experience of this website. The claim is that "HS helps thousands of people to move every month". There aren't thousands of genuine live adverts - and the website has not independently verified this statement. Time wasting contacts play a significant part of online activity, which seem designed to generate an impression of interest - which inevitably come to nothing. There are a substantial number of adverts where users have not logged in for at least 10 weeks. There is no reason these should ads should remain on the site, other than to offer a misleading impression. If you know how to use the website properly, you can identify all genuine swaps. In my experience, the majority of contacts are time
wasters. Also in my extensive experience:
1. The Homeswapper service desk rarely replies to messages. If they do, the response is usually passive and ineffectual.
2. Learn to navigate the menu functions properly to define your search to reduce wasting time.
3. Be prepared for timewasters which are an integral part of this forum. Accept that most of your time will be spent on a hiding to nothing.
4. Treat all contacts with scepticism which seem designed to offer the impression of activity and interest.
5. If a user hasn't logged in for more than 2 weeks, don't waste your time.
6. Treat excuses or delays with scepticism and disregard the contact. Genuine swappers will be keen to progress enquiries swiftly and view.
7. If you receive abuse or contacts play games, take screen prints including their details and report the matter to the advertised housing organisation (HS won't do anything, but the housing provider who pays a subscription and permits tenants access to the site have a duty to act).
I have used these sites extensively. There are of course genuine swappers in the mix but you will usually find that genuine swappers are immediately clear and will leave you in no doubt. If you are suspicious or simply wish to avoid wasting time, before sending more photos and information, tell the contact that you would first like to verify their property with the stated housing organisation. Genuine swappers will have no problem with this request.
Myself and my husband recently moved…
Myself and my husband recently moved home via homeswapper, just 4 months ago. It has been stressful, and a decision I regret.
We moved from a property that didn't meet our needs, it was the wrong property type and too small. We were told that we would either have to move via under1roof, or homeswapper. Given the very long waiting list on under1roof, we decided to move to the only match on homeswapper.
Homeswapper 'matches' were never matches, the properties didn't match what we were looking for, and didn't match what the other person wanted.
The person I swapped home with had the same landlord, it should of been easy but instead was an absolute nightmare. When we put our application forms in to torus, they rejected the move saying that the house would be too big for us, despite previously approving a single person for the same house. The rules and policies for eligibility seem to be pot luck and not consistent. Myself and the other party had to fight with Torus to eventually be approved to move.
On signing to 'accept' the house, we were walked round the house by a Torus officer for just a couple of minutes, and then had to sign to say we accept ths house in its condition.
Months later, we cannot decorate due to the amount of jobs needed, and Torus are being funny with what they will and wont repair. We are expected to repair ourselves for the first 12months.
When stripping wallpaper, there are large cracks in the walls, and broken/crumbling plaster. There are issues with the front door and windows, meaning we have gaps that let a breeze in. We have a wobbly staircase handrail, broken floor boards, lack of insullation meaning the house is freezing....the list goes on and on!
How we are meant to sign to 'accept' these conditions on a two minute walk around, I'll never know. There are obviously repairs/issues that are only noticeable when you are living in the property, and start to strip walls to decorate etc.
We are left in a home that is freezing, with torus sending workmen last week who come and went without doing a thing. We now have to wait for a surveyor to see what they will or wont do...in the autumn months, and I'm a person with health issues that are very much affected by cold weather.
The house feels nothing but stressful, cold, grubby, and it feels like it will never get sorted at this rate.
Torus has agreed a job for our outbuilding, and have since cancelled.
I would highly recommend that if you are considering homeswapper, or have found a swap, please take your time when visiting the home to look carefully at the condition, before signing to accept. Once you have signed and moved in to the home, you are stuck with the condition and it is difficult to get the housing to repair and fix and jobs.
I am a tenant, and not a home owner, it should not be up to myself to pay for repairs.
My home was occupied for approx 70 years by the previous tenant and his family, its far too long in my opinion to go to homeswap. I really feel after so long, the house needed to go in to void with Torus, so repairs and the condition can be thoroughly checked.
All Torus will check before a homeswap is ths gas and electricity. The condition of the home is not checked at all.
Please be careful.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ **Excellent Service from HomeSwapper!**
I’m absolutely delighted with the service I’ve received from HomeSwapper. I managed to find a home swap within just one month, which is amazing! It has been a great opportunity, and I’m so happy and grateful to have had such a positive experience.
This is actually the **second time I’ve successfully found a home swap through HomeSwapper**, which shows how valuable and helpful this service can be. It has given me another great opportunity to find a home that better suits my needs.
I would highly recommend HomeSwapper to anyone considering a house swap. The service is a fantastic way to explore new opportunities and find the right home. I’m very pleased with the whole experience and thankful that HomeSwapper has helped me successfully swap homes twice.
Thank you, HomeSwapper, for providing such a brilliant service and helping make the process possible! 🏡❤️

Easy to use and I have found a great swap. Both sides of the swap are happy with the homes we have got from it.
People are spoiling the automatic multi-swap feature for everyone else
Lots of people on there putting types of homes, number of bedrooms and locations on their lists that they don’t actually want to move to. These people are putting these homes on there to create their own multi-swaps manually. They are messing up the multi-swap feature that automatically matches homes and creates successful chains. These people are stopping others from moving.
This has got to be addressed. DON’T PUT HOMES ON YOUR LISTS THAT YOU WON’T MOVE INTO YOURSELVES!
HomeSwapper, you need to address this issue immediately
Pathetic site
Pathetic site. Says you have a match and they not even looking for your area. It's obviously another useless site so councils look like there helping when in fact the don't help
Homeswapper website is frustrating
Homeswapper website is frustrating! I can't edit details where I'd like to move to. My landlord details are not right no matter how many times I correct it the wrong landlord shows up. Took my money, gave no service
My landlord wouldn’t pay the fees for full account membership (even though they were the ones who suggested homeswapper) so I paid it myself via PayPal as requested. The payment has been taken and has cleared but many months later with repeated complaints submitted to homeswapper and my account has never been activated.
This means that the service and website are completely useless

Every day l get a message, it's from Homeswapper with matches. They are the same ones as yesterday and every other day, that l have pressed unlike on , because they are the wrong bed size, and not looking for what l have got.
I say personally, only my opinion its a complete waste of time.
