These people are basically crooks
These people are basically crooks. They charge 15% surcharge and then tried to add a diesel fuel tax charge on a non-vehicle purchase I made. They only removed the fuel tax surcharge after I emailed and requested - and of course, no apology or explanation. I wonder how many people are getting screwed on extra surcharges and have no idea. This should be reported to the state.
terrible to deal with
This company is owned by RitchieBros bros. I’m from Canada. The equipment was in Canada. Ritchie bros has an office 30mins from my house. They wouldn’t accept payment. They wanted me to wire transfer or mail cheque to the states. This plus they have a 7 calendar day window to pay invoice and the weekend was in the middle. So I went to the bank and asked to pay. They wired money to them. It’s out of my account and in theirs. We both bank with the same bank. However they won’t release equipment until their accounting department posts the transfer. 3 business days. Basically they are pushing my payment deadline because therefore my pickup deadline. They wanted me to me to pickup within 8 calendar days but aren’t open on weekends. Everything else is in business days for their part. Anyways, rambling over. I’ve had a terrible experience and will not use ironplanet again. I expected things to be as smooth as dealing with RitchieBros. I’ve had great experiences with RitchieBros. IronPlanet is not like RitchieBros. They just own them. I will avoid them in the future.
Side note. They sure didn’t hesitate to offer after sales financing in a hurry. Which I didn’t need. I just wanted them to accept my money. They make it difficult to pay.
Terrible experience
Terrible experience, do not buy if you cannot inspect physically and check everything yourself. Their customer service team main job is to avoid any accountability for non working items. There responses were terrible. One pushback was I should have known from the engine sound in their video that there was a problem with the generator I purchased.Zero stars
If you are Reading Up on the Reviews then you are smarter than me!
I'm shocked of my actions for not doing my prepurchase due diligence for this company! They posted an ad for a truck with reasonable and minor flaws and the price was awesome. So awesome that I took the savings to go out to see it and possibly drive it back! I fly to Houston from Atlanta but get there late in the afternoon right before closing. I start doing all the checks, Lights not working, transmission is out completely, leaks, no horn, no braking system, no air bags, check engine light on, and the odometer was out! All these items were inspected as being operable based on their inspection. I took tons of pictures and video of everything. I called the seller and let him know the vehicle wasn't as advertised and he assured me that he would give me a refund but I had called Ritchie Bros at the same time to let them know of the issues (best move I made) So the next day I went back to return the key to the seller but he refused to take it and said it was my problem! So I ignored the seller, left the keys and the item at the sellers location, took a flight back. I contacted Ritchie Bros which took 3 months for a response, then it was various errors and confusions on what item was purchased, and no paper trail between departments, no records of the pictures or videos or the claim ticket they require you to do within 24 hrs of pick-up (total chaos and disorganized), and their representatives that couldn't do anything to aide in the issues! I spoke with a representative in some state that didn't know anything but how to get out of refunding the transaction. So he said your claim wasn't warranted and will be denied. I'm mentioning "Iron Clad Assurance Policy" (Total JOKE! Don't even count on that as being a POLICY more than a gimmick to get you to purchase!) Totally non-existent in their minds! So Luckily I purchased the item with a credit card and reached out to my credit card company and sent them all the pictures and video and their policy and was able to get a 100% refund including the fees! $9k+ ...no proof of title, no proof of processing the actual transaction...Iron Planet Could not even respond to the credit card company! Horrible experience! Be a savvy shopper and read the reviews and adhere to what you are reading because if you have money to throw away then this is the place to do it because if you are not concerned about ever getting it back then you have been warned. Don't Do It!
Customer service does not exist
Customer service does not exist, whether financing Department or cs dept. I will never deal with this organization again.
Absolute crooks
Absolute crooks. How is this company still in business? They will rip you off, keep your money. Hard to communicate with them will spend hours on the phone.
DON'T BUY IRON PLANET!! THEY RIG THE CRAP THEY SELL!
I'd give a ZERO if it had a spot for one. I bought 2 full pallets of 3/4 inch plywood. When I got it, IT WAS TERMITE INFESTED AND ROTTEN. I could not use a single piece. I wasted $1,600. When I asked for a credit toward more purchase of other items....they gave me a big fat 'AS IS" bull shit story. A while back, when I bought a machine, the motor was barely working and blew up shortly after I got it. BUYER BEWARE !!! THERE ARE BETTER AUCTION SITES THAT SHOW THE FULL OPERATION OF THE MACHINE SUCH AS BIDADOO AND PURPLE WAVE AND ABOUT A HALF DOZEN MORE !!
I purchased a vehicle from this company…
I purchased a vehicle from this company and waited five months without any meaningful updates or delivery. After repeated attempts to get answers, I finally asked for a refund. They issued it but withheld 2.9% of the purchase price, claiming it was a non-refundable credit card processing fee. When I asked them to show where this policy was stated, they couldn’t provide any documentation.
This company is misleading customers by collecting money upfront, delaying service, and then profiting off refunds by keeping a portion without clear policy disclosure. I would not recommend doing business with them.
Do not do business with this company
Do not do business with this company! I purchased a vehicle and cannot register it because they refuse to prove to the state of Florida that the person who signed the title was authorized to do so! I have the expense of the purchase, transport and repair and a vehicle I cannot use! I have attempted for the last month to have them do the right thing with no luck! I have contacted my attorney and we are looking at their "ironclad guarantee!" Richie Bros are an international joke!
Extremely dissatisfying experience
Extremely dissatisfying experience. We purchased a dump truck from Iron Planet at the end of October. The truck appeared clean and well-maintained, and the company claimed they thoroughly inspect all vehicles before sale, but this proved to be false. We had the truck delivered from Texas, which took 3 days, followed by an additional 2-week wait for title shipping. By the time we could register the vehicle, over a month had passed.
When we finally prepared to use the truck for work, we discovered multiple issues. First, the Power Take-Off system was non-functional and needed replacement. Subsequently, numerous other components failed one after another. Upon inspection at a mechanic's shop, we learned that the truck's specifications differed from what was listed in the paperwork and scanner documentation, which created unexpected financial burden. When we attempted to contact Iron Planet about these issues, they dismissed our concerns, stating we had missed their 15-day window for claims. Iron Planet needs to improve their inspection process and extend their warranty period to account for shipping and registration delays. Their 15-day window is unreasonable given the time required for delivery and title processing. The discrepancy between the advertised specifications and the actual vehicle delivered could constitute misrepresentation. Potential buyers should be aware of these issues and thoroughly document the vehicle's condition immediately upon delivery. We recommend requesting detailed maintenance records and having an independent inspection before finalizing any purchase. The company should address these serious concerns promptly, as misrepresenting vehicle specifications and conditions may have legal implications beyond their standard warranty terms.
UPDATE
UPDATE: JUST got my title - 1) the title is STILL in the seller's name (I paid Title doc fees) - was told these "title doc fees" were for them to 'WRITE MY NAME ON THE TITLE" and to send it to me (which by the way it took them 30 days to send it to me). NOW, I still have to go to my courthouse to have the title transferred to my name, PAY the fees AGAIN - and was told I could "try" to get a refund on the fees I have already paid but since it is past the 30 days I probably would not get a refund. WHAT A FRAUD!!! This Alexix Brooker that held on to this title that ALL SHE DID WAS WRITE MY NAME ON THE TITLE to send it to me AFTER the 30 days was over - has really put the screws to me/us. I DID re-rate this company because although we have a truck now that is in better shape than most - after we have had it in the shop and replaced numerous things on it, they still are not a company that I would EVER buy something from again because their business practices are atrocious!
Bought a commercial vehicle from this…
Bought a commercial vehicle from this company (RB/Iron Planet). First, I want to say that we LOVE our purchased tractor truck. Second, I need to say that every individual that we have spoken to through customer service has been wonderful, helpful, and a pleasure to work with. However, we have had the absolute worst time trying to get the title. I called the listed Title Supervisor (Alexis Brooker) - left 8 messages within a 2-week time period - NEVER received any type of response. Then they posted in my account that my title was shipped by FedEx on the 25th day (the day it was due) and when checking with FedEx - a LABEL was created but there was no package information/ pick-up request. The label was created so that when they run the outcome/ data/ statistics they do not go over their promised delivery time.
I was able to reach another wonderful customer service person that assisted me with the issue (3rd time having to call customer service about this issue) - and we SHOULD be receiving our title within the next few days. Fingers crossed that Alexis Brooker did not again present false information about my title.
Happy with the Purchase - NOT happy with the Title department's service.
Hiding behind a GovPlanet Login with crazy fees.
If I could give them no stars I would. Iron planet is very deceptive in that if you log into GovPlanet, and bid on an item, you may be bidding on their item, as in an Iron planet auction. Although you didn’t login to IronPlanet, you could be paying a ridiculous buyers premium for an item that cost less than the premium. They will place an item that’s worth let’s say $150.00 dollars because of the age and condition, you may win it at $100.00, and by the time you pay the buyers premium of $100.00 for each item you won. Yes I said $100.00 for each item won. You’ve got 250 plus in the item. That’s because IronPlanet charges the same buyers premium of $100.00 for all purchases up to $5000.00. This is absolutely ridiculous. Someone that spends $5000.00 pays the same as someone that spends $100.00. So basically a buyer who purchases a push mower is penalized in fees vs someone that buys a side by side ATV. Someone should stop this company with a class action. This is absolutely ridiculous. Especially since they’re hiding behind the GovPlanet auction while doing it.
Bought a 45' great Dane Van trailer…
Bought a 45' great Dane Van trailer from Ironplanet. Pictures looked really good, no damage to be seen. Sent multiple drivers to pick up and they all denied to move. Even sent a crane company to lift to put on a flat bed, also denied. Turns out every cross-member was rusted away, and air bags and air brakes were all blown as well. Requested credit or money back and was denied. Lessons learned. If it is large equipment or trailers. It is people's srape metal that Ironplanet sales. If you can not go look at it in person, I would not waste alot of money on any of their items. Just my two cents.
Gigantic scam bought a trailer from…
Gigantic scam bought a trailer from them that had iron claw assurance when I brought home I looked at it carefully all with in the same day noticed both axles where Bent I contacted them, they denied the claim because I drove the trailer off the lot
Please stay away bought a floor grinder…
Please stay away bought a floor grinder and was told it had iron clad insurance after paying to have it delivered found out the item didn't work when I called about the insurance claim all they do is give you the run around and want you to sell from your home why would I want to sell something from my home that doesn't work now I'm out of about $1000 please stay away
BEWARE!!!
BEWARE!!!
As a seller, I provided extensive paperwork detailing a complete history of all repairs and maintenance that had been done to the vehicle I was selling, a month before the auction.
Including a $28k engine rebuild.
This rebuild only has 35k miles on it.
They didn’t even list that in the vehicle info!
The most attractive fact about my truck was hidden from prospective bidders and my truck sold for $2k!
Then they take a steep cut, plus the inspection fee!
I’ll get $1k
The liftgate on my unit was worth more than $2k!!!
Run from these jokers.
They just rush their part and dont care about the sellers.
Iron planet runs false adds…
Iron planet runs false adds continuously, they themselves run faked adds,
And also scammers use the site to lure unsuspecting customers in. Boom and bucket is a scam but are on iron planet multiple times, with multiple fake adds.
If know one is checking out the legitimacy of these adds then that alone equals a terrible SITE.
Thanks to everyone who submitted…
Thanks to everyone who submitted reviews of this company. I didn’t even complete creating an account. Did not feel comfortable providing banking info just to create an account. After reading your reviews I believe I’ve saved myself from a lot of aggravation.
I purchased a set of scales
I purchased a set of scales. Drove 900 miles to discover they were gone.
Seller says Iron planet listed more items than seller had to sell. Iron planet says they have a contract with the seller for the scales. Neither party will answer my calls now.
I called the ironclad insurance group and really got a run around. Finally a person offered to send me the paperwork to file for refund. Less the buyers premium and that is nonsense.! I do believe I M owed travel expenses also.
