The once so impressive company is gone
The once so impressive, modern design company Moooi, dutch based, are no longer what they once was, and I raise a flag for anyone considering buying any of their products. This after last days experience, which at the end turned to acid so it was actually laughable.
Through the years I have been a proud owner of several of their products, they have been adding a futuristic spice to my apartments. At this stage, I own two of them, I am about to sell both of them and put this behind me.
However, I share my story to maybe prevent other people from ending up in the same mess as I did.
I have a lamp, Raimond II-61 a beautiful spheric lamp with 92 LEDs tied together with a metallic mesh. However, it needs a dimmer since the light at times gets way to strong. I went to their webpage and found a new product; Wireless Wall Dimmer. Simple design and connects via bluetooth to the lamp so no tricky installation needed. Reading the specifications and checking what products it supported, I was happy to find Raymond II-61 on the list.
I decided to go ahead with the purchase, despite the hefty pricetag of 117€. The product arrived yesterday, via FedEx. When unwrapping, I realised right away that this dimmer wasnt compatible with my lamp.
I contacted their "support" who replied within a few hours. Then I was asked to send various photos of power supply and lamp, after a few hours they confirmed that the dimmer they had sold to me indeed wasnt compatible with the lamp. In other words,, they had sold and invoiced a product that did not meet the promises made on their website.
I was however informed that I was allowed to return the product (that is a right ay consumer always has)AND they would make an exception for me and pay for the return! So, here I was, with an expensive product that didnt meet their written specifications, but I should be grateful that they so kindly pay for the return of it!
The procedure with FedEx was put on me to organise....at this stage I was irritated enough to tell them I will not do their work as the whole situation was caused by them.
I then suggested a alternative solution that would solve the situation quickly with both sides benefitting.Instead of me returning a product for 117€, I suggested that they provided me with the correct power supply for the switch. The cost for that would certainly more than well be covered by the margin on the much more expensive wall switch.
No answer back until the day after, but instead of a polite yes or no (either would have been perfectly fine), I was served a story that seemed "somewhat" madeup. The person in the "support" told be that "Yes, they would be more than happy to send me the powersupply of course, but, unfortunately this could ot be done : "The current powersupply has a different voltage that it transforms the 230V into. Meaning that the frame and the cable are able to hold the electricity input but the lights aren’t.
When adding the new transformer to your frame, all the lights will burn out at once!!!!
I hope this answers your question!
Met vriendelijke groet,
Kind Regards,"
In other words; this new power supply they used would destroy all the 92 lamps at once...With a degree in electical engineering, I knew this was a lie, but I wanted to see how far she would go with this. I asked her to be a bit more specific... "different voltage" is not precise enough, I asked for a number. She sent back a screen snapshot of parts of the product sheet, showing 52V compared to the 6V (its actually 5V) I have today, thus the immediate destruction of all my LEDs!! I sent back a screenshot from the manufacturers website, where the voltage given is a programmable range between 1.5-52V which is normal, since this is a fixed current, variable voltage dimmer.
I told her that sitting in customer service, and fabricating lies to customers not was a good idea, and I asked how,for example how a voltage of for example 3V and a resulting current of about 60 mA would burn my lamp to ashes.
No answer, she replied by sending me FedEx printouts, she now wanted me to print their return labels. I have no printer, I have neither time or lust to do their job cleaning up this mess. I told her to print her labels and send them to my address. I will attach them to the package, then its up to them to find a solution with FedEx.
As of now,no answer back. They have my money, I have a, for me, worthless product. I warn anyone considering buying anything from them to think twice. I have been a happy and loyal customer for over 20 years, that ended today when treated like a pile of sh..
