Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us, although we are saddened by the implication that you are not entirely happy with your purchase.
I hope it can put your mind at ease that your furniture is indeed made of oak, apart from a few components for which solid oak is not the most suitable material.
We do go through great length to explain how we design and specify the furniture we offer. Here, for example: www.oakea.co.uk/article/107/solid-wood-or-veneer-which-one-is-better.html.
We specify each component for consistency and durability. For these criteria, some components are not ideal being solid. For the coffee table and sideboard you ordered at £458 on the 12th May, and had delivered on 25th May, the insert panels in the tops are made of veneered particle board. So is the shelf in the sideboard. (Everything else is solid). The reason for this is this: If the insert panels in the tops were solid, there would be an unnecessary risk of cracking or splitting and also, there would need to be an expansion groove around it to allow it to move (expand and contract) with changes in temperature and humidity. Your tops are smooth with no grooves and the 40 mm thick top frames are indeed solid oak. As for the shelf in the sideboard, if this was solid, there would be an unnecessary risk of warping, making the shelf 'rock' on the shelf pegs.
As we specify the products in detail, we have a choice of offering furniture made entirely of solid oak - with inherent risks of issues when the wood moves, or we can minimise this risk. With the high spec materials we use, there isn't a real difference in cost. We always specify the most suitable, consistent and durable material for each component.
I have checked the alternative products from the alternative supplier you mentioned. The malvern range is our design made exclusively for us. The alternative furniture you mention looks a lot like the malvern but it does appear to be a cheapened version at more money - £548 for a coffee table and sideboard equivalent to the Malvern items you had from us. That's a good 20 % more for lower spec'ed products: It looks like the wood grade in the alternative you mention is lower with more colour variance in the wood, and, it is missing the beading around the side panels giving the Malvern that extra kick. Furthermore it appears the alternative uses cheaper handles. This range also use veneer on closer inspection, for the same components as the Malvern and presumably for the same reasons.

A very nice man in the shop - and a very nice table
I have just bought a small table from Oakea in Hereford. The assistant was very helpful in providing advice, as I wasn't quite sure if the table would match the other furniture I had. He said I could either take away a sample piece of wood or buy it and return it within 30 days. I bought the table - and I am very happy to report that it's excellent. It was very well-packaged, had all the required bits, had clear assembly instructions, and was easy to put together. It's a lovely table (and it fits with my other furniture). An excellent purchase!

excellent quality furniture and first class service.
we were absolutely delighted with the quality and the style of the coffee table, sideboard and lamp we purchased in oakea's sale. we found our items were really great value compared to similar products on offer by many other retailers and the quality was far superior also. service was excellent and after we placed our order there was a further reduction on the lamp price.when we phoned oakea they immediately applied the extra discount. delivery was as promised and the driver was efficient and helpful. we could'nt be happier with our total experience and will use oakea again.

Bretagne Range
Had my bedroom furniture delivered yesterday 22/6/06.Was a bit sceptical ordering off the internet, but was amazed at the quality and style of the goods i ordered.The goods were delivered within 2 minutes of the time they said they would be here.Great service and fabulous furniture.Would definitely order from them again.Would recommend them to anyone.

Screws didn't fit
Overall, very happy with purchase although the screws supplied to fix the seat base to the sides of the chair just would not fit into the pre-drilled holes. I had to buy smaller (thinner) screws to finish the job.

Attractive, solid furniture at a great price.
We ordered 7 pieces from the Bretagne range and we're delighted with it all. Assembly was minimal and straightforward but, boy, did we have a lot of cardboard packaging! (a good thing, I guess, as it protected the furniture completely). The quality of everything we ordered is excellent - we particularly like the 3-door wardrobe - and we think it's very keenly priced. Would definitely recommend Oakea, despite the daft name!

We had to wait for some of our order to be available but were very impressed with the discounts available. plus even more discount when you spent over a set amount. The products came securely packaged, Took me ages to take all the cardboard off but the end result was worth it!. A Lovely range of Furniture, well made and solid! Highly recommended!

Brilliant company
I have ordered twice from Oakea. The first time, I was in the process of moving, and arranged delivery to my old address. However, I moved earlier than expected. Oakea staff were very helpful, and arranged delivery to my new address - 35 miles away. The second time, they immediately arranged a refund when I changed my order.
