This collection agency is so desperate in to thinking that you owe junk debt. No communication and no validation of the debt! They will place junk debt right on your credit report! they are not even the original creditor! They are only a junk debt collector that is NOT mine! Never pay these liars nothing!

Fake debt collection company. They have been calling me every day with a different phone number for over 5 years now. It was one debt but they added another one so they call me even more now. Every debt that they said I had I contacted the company first and both times the company says you never were in debt and you paid us on time and that collection company is a scam and no we don’t use them for that reason. No matter how much proof I give portfoliorecovery they say that we don’t believe your proof and keep harassing me to pay every day.

This company is as grimy as they come. I pay off a debt from them, I ask them 3 times if there's anything else, they say no. Yesterday (5/08/2025) these scum send me an email bill for a similar amount. Today (5/09/2025) they report it to my credit report tanking my score 30 points! This not only gave me less than a day to resolve, they didn't verify it. Then they tell me it will take 30 days to get this off my credit after I gave them another $500! They get sued all the time even by the federal government for these practices. I am homeless and was getting ready to apply for a mortgage to buy a house to get away from the numerous slum lords here in Florida and these slimy people torpedoed any hope of this.

The company does NOT comply with the fair credit act. The continue to harass people. They use different numbers, they keep adjusting dates of contact to start the clock again. The continue to post derogatory comments.

Portfolio recovery associate is trying to scam me with a fake debt account that is not belong to me

This company has been phoning my home phone and disconnecting when my answering machine picks up the calls. I didn’t know what kind of company it was until I called back and the recording said it is a debt collection company - I thought it might be an investment company. Anyway, I have no debt at all, use one credit card for everything and pay the balance in full every month. My credit score is over 800. I spoke to a representative who said my phone number was given to them as a contact number for someone with delinquent debt - but they won’t tell me the name of the debtor or which company the money is owed to. I have had my phone number for close to 6 years and live alone, so no one at my phone number has past-due debt. They even called me on Sunday. I plan to complain to the state consumer protection department. My phone is for my use, not for them to hound me for someone else’s debt.

I filed suit against Portfolio Recovery Associates, LLC pro se, meaning without an attorney.

PRA has a pattern of making a settlement offer that gives more to the plaintiff's attorney than to the plaintiff. Almost all are accepted.

My case will probably go to trial. I hope others file similar suits. PRA makes hundreds of millions or billions of dollars off debt that it knows is not verifiable.

This company has an issue of mine on their desks-I have made myself clear, their issue involved fraudulent charges, what they do when this is formally disputed is send a copy of the totaled statement page, an amount I knew they were trying to collect-but most if not all fraudulent charges-I asked for an itemization, they sent, yet again, another copy of a one page total due, and the credit agency Equifax accepts this as "proof" of illegitimate debts. In today's climate, a company like this needs to be disbanded-they accept anyone's debt for any reason and plague them harass them, and brutalize their credit history, in my case his is the only negative entry. We are in Los Angeles, where, for many months everything's been pretty much closed down-our courts, backlogged for years to come-but nonetheless my intention is to bring suit, and make it stick-I would also appreciate others' opinions, and intend to pursue this regardless of what they do with a debt that isn't my own-Stay Well All...
