The gym was bought by Everlast and with some improvements to the sauna and steam room, the main problem is the its dirty!! the pool tiles are falling of and the jaquzi never works. Its a shame as when... Voir plus

Fantastic Health Club

Roko health club provides a fantastic experience. The facility is truly fantastic, the Roko team are exceptionally friendly, helpful and always available to provide guidance and support.
I have been undergoing personal training sessions with Taylor for the past 15 weeks, and I cannot recommend all there PT’s highly enough.
The progress I have made in my fitness level has far surpassed my expectations.
The classes are well organised, enjoyable and most importantly offer a supportive environment.
Thank you for providing such an outstanding experience.

ROKO Gillingham is an excellent health…

ROKO Gillingham is an excellent health club. The gym facilities are great, with plenty of cardio fitness machines, weight lifting machines, free weights etc. There’s a good size swimming pool, and a small training pool, as well as a jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. The reception and gym staff and personal trainers are friendly and helpful, and available for any advice. There are also dozens of varied classes throughout the week, that cater for all age groups and abilities, which are included in the membership fee. There’s also a comfortable coffee lounge, with drinks and snacks available. I use ROKO five mornings a week, it’s a very friendly club, and I think it’s terrific value for money, and would highly recommend it! - David

Gym induction at Roko…

I recently had my gym induction at Roko with Harry. He immediately put me at ease and put together a routine of machines and weight lifting exercises. Harry patiently took me round the machines, giving me the time to practice each one and also to write down some notes for future reference. I now have a regime that works for me and I have been told to ask for a review in 6 weeks so that my programme can be adjusted. I now feel that I can achieve my fitness goals without feeling intimidated by the gym floor.

Gym review with Harry…

Recently had a one to one gym session with Harry. It was great, he showed me how to use the machines and showed me that I had been doing the exercises all wrong. He explained everything really well and was very supportive despite my lack of ability. I now feel able to move forward with my fitness rather than feeling demotivated always.

Family Membership…

We’ve had a family membership a few months now and absolutely love the place! The staff are fantastic, from entering reception to be met with a smile and a warm greeting like you’ve been a member for years! Nothing is too much trouble and they are always happy to help! I’ve recently had a gym induction with Harry and although I woke the next day and called him all kinds of names as I was aching! I must say it was brilliant! He understood my needs completely and chose the weights and machines accordingly, I look forward to another session with Harry next week to check everything and to seeing my progress, I use the facilities at least 5/6 times a week and especially enjoy the outdoor pool and then into the steam room, I was sceptical about the move at first as I paid less over at Pure Gym (and got a lot less!) but making the move was a great decision for My husband, myself and our 4 children.

Ball pool or swimming pool?

There are a few hours when children are not supposed to use the outdoor pool in the evening, which should allow for lane swimming- but then large adult men shouting jumping in and horsing around can cause more disruption than the kids… A small unsupervised pool cannot be both a ball pool and a swimming pool at the same time!!

Incompetent and rude - Angela Goodger

Worst customer service I’ve ever received off Angela Goodger. Had a 3 month membership commencing from February - April. At end of March I asked to cancel the month of April due to relocation - they gave me a contract to sign to do so. The next day I get an email saying I’ve got to pay membership till June (bare in mind I only had a 3 month membership that didn’t extend) to cancel the 3 months????? The next day I went in and was told by a member of staff on reception that as long as I pay the month of April the contract would be finished and that was it . I did so (even though I didn’t use the gym once in April) and ever since they have been trying to charge me for the month of May and now an extra 20 pound for something else???? I’ve been trying to contact this Angela as the staff on the reception might not aswell be there because when u ask them something they just pass you on to this Angela who’s never there and ultimately uncontactable. Now I finally got in contact with Angela she has clearly had no customer service training and she is now saying she won’t resolve this because she can’t ’verify my experience’ ???????? Very rude and had no intention of resolving the issue that roko’s incompetent staff has caused. What a joke absolute embarrassment of customer service never mind it’s 50 pound a month - won’t be coming here again and wouldn’t recommend the rude and money thieving staff .

Excellent across the board

Excellent across the board. Staff are friendly, approachable, knowledgeable and available. Gym is well equipped with high tech equipment. Plenty of classes available in the studios. Spa area and changing rooms are clean and consistent and well maintained. After a good workout and spa, the restaurant is waiting to rejuvenate you.

Good value, great gym

Lovely sauna! I enjoyed the gym area as well and was impressed by the quality of the cable machines.

Great place with friendly

Great place with friendly, welcoming staff that has all the gym equipment you need to have a good workout. The gym area is also nice and spacious and rarely gets too busy. The pool, changing and spa facilities are well maintained and always kept clean and tidy.

The worst gym I have ever been to!!!

The worst gym I have ever been to!!!
Slippery floors around the pool with people constantly slipping and they won’t put down mats as don’t care about their customers or staff slipping and hurting themselves. Even children are slipping around the pool and they don’t care.
The sauna is missing large pieces of seating areas and looks disgusting. It has not been refurbished in about 20 years.
They often don’t have towels due to cheap suppliers.
A few showers don’t work properly and most have low water pressure.
The staff are generally very rude apart from one guy in the morning who is very pleasant. The rest are bloody awful to deal with.
The only way they keep their customers is the 3 month notice period you have to give to leave.
Avoid the gym at all costs. I would rather travel 2 hours to a gym than go to ROKO

Our pool area does have mats along the edges of both the pool and spa, and we have taken more than adequate measures here to ensure the safety of both members and staff on poolside so I'm very sorry to hear that this has not been your experience.
We are also awaiting delivery on the replacement bench for the sauna which has recently been removed, we apologise for the inconvenience here but please be assured that we are in the process of repairing this as a priority.

Awful customer service

This is one of the cheaper health clubs with a pool in York, but the customer service and communication is appalling. Certain classes are always full as soon as they are advertised and they don't respond by putting more on. Spa equipment is out of action regularly, and never done to a decent level (bodging). Also regular groups of sweary thuggish young lads taking over spa area. Its really gone downhill in last few years. Today they stopped me taking my 6yo swimming informing my his 'kids go free' had expired, despite no one having contacted me about this and him having swum with me frequently without question. Then a sarcastic "have a nice day" as we left with him crying in the car. Total rubbish

Dirty

Dirty. Old equipment. Sauna seats falling apart. Jacuzzi covered in scum. Over the 14 years i've been a member they have continously underinvested in the facilities and now cant afford to fix anything. The installation of an unused powerrack and a sled track are a token to attract the younger trainer who cant afford the 90 a month anyway. Aside from Dittan the scruffy and unprofessional front desk man with the beanie is a jobsworth.

The club has invested significantly into the facilities recently, including 25 new spin bikes purchased and installed last year plus the new rack and track as you mentioned. We are also installing a new hip thrust machine this week in response to member requests.

A Great Morning!

A great morning had, popping in with a day pass today. Such a friendly environment created by both staff and members. So lovely to catch-up with everyone. Brilliant classes, boxing with Dean and lbt with Sarah. Both exceptional at what they do and make the time whizz by.

Outrageous behavior from the…

Outrageous behavior from the reception/PT staff when wanted to hand in my 3 months notice to quit.

Refused to take the hand written letter as stated in their terms and conditions and threw my letter back over the counter into the floor!

When emailed them to make a complaint there not bothered I was told that the member of staff in question “acted in a professional manner”

I have video evidence of the whole conversation and sent it in for the so called manager to see who funny enough hasn’t got back to me regarding this.

Think there staff need some customer service training and maybe updated on your term and conditions policy

Changing rooms are dated
Swimming, steam and sauna is poor I would recommend Reynolds Fitness Spa all day long!
