At the RSPCA, we’re proud to be there for every kind— from pets in need to wild animals who need urgent care. Every day, our dedicated teams work tirelessly to protect animals, prevent cruelty, and offer hope in situations that are often distressing and complex. As a charity, we face difficult decisions about how to use our limited resources, and we must prioritise the most urgent and serious cases of abuse or neglect. This sometimes means we can’t attend every call, no matter how much we wish we could. When we’re unable to be there in person, we’ll help in other ways—offering you support, directing you to organisations that can help fast, and, when it’s safe, empowering you to take an animal to a vet. These shared efforts truly make a difference. We’re incredibly grateful for the kindness, patience, and support shown by the public. Together, we can continue to speak up for animals, protect those in need, and build a better world for every kind.

Absolutely awful. Where I live there has been a dog that has been left for 7-8 months whilst its owner is deployed. Someone goes in twice a day. The poor dog has no access to outside other when these people come. The dog is neglected and has no interaction. Because it’s so called fed and water they do not want to know. How can that be fair the poor dog has no interaction skills it’s sits at the window barking constantly.
There is also another dog on the estate who does the same.
Both have been reported to the so called RSPCA. God forbid if anything happens to those poor dogs you’ll be responsible- I’m so angry

I have only just started supporting the RSPCA in a Microvolunteering role. I am very excited about this role and believe the RSPCA is one of the best organisations to be volunteering for. The world would be a much worse place without them.

great staff and great opportunities for the public to get involved

Wanted to adopt, we have had 8 cats over the years all died between 17yrs and 19yrs, even the receptionist said could she live with us as everyone seems to live a long and happy life. Therefore being told as we live near a train line, trains use every hour so not busy we can't adopt. We live in a cul de sac, yet one of our cats got injured by a car. I'm removing my donation from my will, and they deserve to be inundated with cats, however, the cats don't.
Filled in form but no response to complaint. Wouldn't bother with RSPCA again

Reached out to the RSPCA today and was surprised at the speed of response. The information supplied was passed on to the person I was asking about and well recieved. A wonderful organisation that I think is getting unfair bad press. Without funding it is very difficult to help everyone.
Best wishes to a great organisation.

ABSOLUTELY disgusting service.
A case was reported about a cat living in communal bins and after weeks of investigating (not sure what took them weeks), the answer was simply that they had “looked into this and the case is closed now”.
All the neighbours have now come together to do something about this because clearly, you don’t need to be part of a company, have a stamp on your jacket and benefit from donations to actually do something about an abandoned animal.
We eventually found out that the cat was not microchipped and was clearly abandoned, and we had to find someone to adopt him and actually deal with the situation ourselves.
I understand GDPR. I really do. But the fact that they couldn’t even tell us something as basic as whether the cat was microchipped is absolutely disgusting. We were the people on the ground, trying to help this animal, while apparently the case had been “looked into” and closed. Closed = do nothing.
This whole experience has been beyond frustrating. The neighbours have had to come together and do what we can because clearly we cannot rely on the RSPCA to deal with situations like this.
I know that England is in a much better position than many other countries when it comes to animal welfare, but we cannot really rely on a poor service like this to deal with the scale of animal neglect and abandonment.
And honestly, the argument should be bigger than simply criticising charities. We need more charities and more resources to deal with animal neglect and abandonment, but we also need to be pushing the government to put more money into animal welfare and the services dealing with these cases.
The RSPCA really needs to look into the way they work because, from our experience, it was extremely poor. An animal was left in a situation where a group of ordinary neighbours ultimately had to step in and sort things out ourselves.
Absolutely disgusting.

I have contacted them several times over the past week and no visits have been made to 5 cats abandoned at home as the owners went on holiday 8 days ago. I feel the rspca are as bad as the owners for not attending to rescue these cats as they are standing against all the principals of the charity by not responding to this concern

While I understand the RSPCA probably get an overwhelming number of people calling to donate items, the attitude of staff who handle those calls need to be checked in on. We called to donate a number of items following the recent passing of our family dog. It was only a few days since his passing of which was explained on the call and upon calling our local branch, the attitude was awful. You'd think that someone working (being paid at that!), for a organisation such as the RSPCA would show some compassion to someone who has just lost their dog, despite the inability to take any items at that time. Appaling for such a huge charitable brand and has tarnished the RSPCA for us going forward sadly.

RSPCA, absolutely disgraceful. I recently reported a cat that has been abandoned by my neighbours, wondering around on the street, looking very weak and unwell. A man from RSPCA turned up the following day who refused to take the cat as it was not in a critical condition.
Currently the cat is living on the street, fed by my self and other neighbours. No one dare to re home the cat as we all were told by RSPCA man that it would be a criminal offence.
I am disgusted by how RSPCA has left the cat on the street, helpless and abandoned but they have a cheek to advertise on TV every 10 minutes asking for donations.
I have have always been suspicious of these so called charities but now I know they are just another money scam cons.

I recently started volunteering with the RSPCA, and I am deeply impressed by the work the organisation does. I feel useful knowing that I can help an organisation that works tirelessly to rescue and protect animals. They keep us well informed about their various initiatives, and I am very grateful for the opportunity to contribute.

On 23rd September 2026 a healthy baby squirrel was seized from its temporary carer,ILLEGALLY and without a warrant, by an officer from Leicestershire police. It was surrendered to RSPCA who euthanised the baby without any just reason. This is a barbaric and cruel act by not only the police but by an organisation who is supposed to protect all animals but does exactly the opposite. I have long believed that this organisation is at best not fit for purpose and stopped donating several years ago when this became apparent. As with many large organisations the money is creamed off at the top rendering it virtually useless.
FURTHER TO YOUR REPLY:Unfortunately you are completely missing the issue here and do not seem to know the law.The carer is legally allowed to keep the squirrel for a period of six weeks and was indeed well within that six week period when it was forcefully removed and unecessarily and cruelly euthanised by you. In addition to this, the policeman had no right of entry into the house without a warrant and bullied his way in by threatening the carer.
The Rspca portray themselves as a caring organisation who supposedly protect all animals. Quite clearly this is not the case as the above atrocity clearly proves.I will continue to make as many people aware as I can of the disingenuous way in which you operate.

Réponse de RSPCA (England and Wales)
A totally disgusting attitude by one of your members when it was reported that a person who breeds dogs from home does nothing when one of the dogs starts to savage and eat one of the puppies, This has been reported by other people and yet you do absolutely NOTHING, yet you have the audacity to advertise on TV that you are a caring Company and want Money off us.
DISGRACEFUL

Joining as a micro-volunteer with the RSPCA has been such a positive experience.
What I love most is how intentionally inclusive they are—everyone is made to feel equal, respected, and genuinely part of the mission. Being able to fit small, impactful tasks into my week means I never feel overwhelmed, just proud to be contributing to animal care alongside such a friendly team!

I contacted RSPCA regarding a concern about a farm that was threatening to put down any dogs that entered the property and agitated the animals; not only did they reply immediately, but they also clarified my questions. Excellent service. Thank you very much.

We adopted our cat from the RSPCA and had a great experience. The whole team were really helpful and even let us keep some blankets and toys so that she would be comfortable in her new home. Now I’m a microvolunteer for the charity and find it really rewarding to be able to make even just a small contribution to their efforts that fits in with my busy schedule

I saw a sheep with a broken leg in Cumbria. I emailed Westmoreland RSPCA who advised they would send an inspector over.
Several days later I received an email from the RSPCA National Control Centre to advise that they would not help and that I must contact APHA.
Really disappointing; someone says they will help, someone else says they won't.
Meanwhile, a poor animal is in pain and distress.
Not impressed.

I’m a micro-volunteer with the RSPCA and I’ve had a really positive experience so far. I love being able to contribute to animal welfare through small, flexible tasks that I can fit around work and everyday life. It’s an easy and rewarding way to give some of my time to a cause I really care about, and I’m very happy to be part of it.

I've been consistently impressed by the work the RSPCA does across the UK. From rescuing animals in distress to running long-term rehoming programmes and campaigning for stronger animal welfare laws, they clearly put compassion into action every day. Their staff and volunteers are dedicated, knowledgeable, and clearly care deeply about the animals they help. It's reassuring to know an organisation like this exists to speak up for creatures who can't speak for themselves. Highly recommend supporting their work if you care about animal welfare.

I used the RSPCA website when deciding what puppy would be best for us. Information was clear, concise and easy to understand. I regularly visit the website for tips and advice on tips for training and puppy behaviour. The wealth of information on the website I have regularly used in my school work as I know it is reliable and trusted. Tasks assigned for micro volunteers are interesting and easy to do.
