Owner is an elitist snob
My parents loved Stonewalls since the 1990s when John and Anne Carriere owned it. When Scott Garland took over, service went down. The food is regularly cold and has to be sent back. And then attitude is served on the side.
But by far the biggest problem is with Scott Garland. He’s an elitist and a snob that doesn’t know many of the long time residents. I waited to sit at the bar for 45 minutes last night. And I told the 2 bartenders that I was waitng to eat there. NO ONE said I couldn’t eat there. NO ONE. Scott brushed me off and sat customers around me like I was trash. Scott told me I had to wait and then told me I LIED telling his staff that I was waiting for a seat. Bar seating at most restaurants are OPEN SEATING. And the bartenders didn’t tell me otherwise. Did you honestly think your staff was going to tell you otherwise Scott while you tried to belittle and emabarass me in front of the entire restaurant?? They told you what YOU wanted to hear. You’re the boss!!
I had eaten there the night before but Scott is so limited and self absorbed he didn’t even remember.
My family was very prominent in Banner Elk, for decades. But my father never made a big deal of that. The Carriere’s always treated us like family. Scott has always been a snob. He also was a jerk to me 5 years ago and I even emailed him later. He was also a snob then. And clearly doesn’t like families.
I was in tears last night. My parents loved that place. They died a few years ago and I have tried to keep their tradition alive. But I will never step foot in that restaurant again, as long as Scott owns it. My parents would be so shocked how I was treated.
I hope Scott’s partner Tim is kinder to couples than his spouse. Just despicable.
