Absolutely amazing place , very knowledgeable and always keen to help and offer support , my daughter is autistic and has select mutism and severe anxiety attacks , Christian , Martin and Alena always make her feel welcome and comfortable and her confidence grows when we visit , we often attend wild time and kids club and even drop in through out the week and have always found the animals to be in good health , and tank is always in form to offer a friendly welcome , we have had a selection of our own reptiles from here aswell ans they have always been in excellent health , the custom built enclosures are fabulous and well equipped and if ever we have questions or unsure on anything they are always there to help 💯 recommend this place

First of all, the previous review in April 2026 by a C. Potts is suspect as this is the owner of this business, Christian.

Why he would be writing reviews as though he was any other customer I do not know but is suspect given the rest of my dealings with him.

I had paid a deposit for an exotic animal to be reserved during breeding season with this business with the expectation to be kept up to date when newborns were available, at first things went smoothly with updates of "no animal yet", then further communication almost a month later that the mother was due to give birth in the very near future and then a final email a further month after that to say that there were still no young (this particular exotic has a gestation period of ~60 days so found that quite unusual)

I then made a post in a local exotics community asking about other peoples experience with this business as I was getting concerned I had not heard anything so late into breeding season.

Shortly afterwards I had a call from Christian, the business owner that I had made a post about him and that I had accused him of being a scammer, that he wasn't prepared to deal with me and would refund my deposit ( I hadn't, although other people in the group had a few less than pleasant things to say of him) and that if i I was concerned I should view his instagram page to view the welfare of his animals (welfare wasn't my concern, by the way Christian.)

However, I already had viewed his instagram page many times, as I was quite keen to see if there were any updates on the animal I was after... Nothing there... However, only a couple of hours after his call was his instagram updated with pictures of the exotic that I was after that were clearly a couple of weeks old? I have no idea why he was unable to let me know that these animals had been born and instead lie that there was no news on the mother giving birth.

Regardless, i then received a further email from this business asking me to remove my post from the group after I had been accused of accusing them of being scammers (I still had not) and for that reason, my review score is so low, Poor communication, evidence out outright lies about availability of a species and then to accuse your customers of labelling your business a scam was too far and the main prompt for submitting this review today.

Absolutely shocking communication from this business, lies and accusations - Do not use The Unconventional Menagerie.

Great staff, very knowledgeable and polite. I would 100% suggest coming here and if you have children they will enjoy it if they like animals.

I have been in here many times with injured animals and they have always been able to help.

I am a frequent customer and visitor, very knowledgeable staff who not only run the shop but also the rescue centre, provide animal talks, keeper experiences, venomous snake talks and more

They sell a variety of products and also make and build amazing enclosures
The animals are so well looked after, I can’t recommend this place enough

Christian is my go to for any animal related questions - he is incredibly knowledgeable, honest & professional, one of the most real and genuine people I’ve ever met

My 7 year old daughter did the pet shop keeper experience, absolutely amazing , I would highly recommend, anyone looking for a activity for their child to do or for them selfs honestly can’t recommend enough.
You can see how much work compassion and love that goes into these animals , re creating natural environments and the mutual respect between the animals and the staff there .
My daughter can struggle immensely with social interactions so I was apprehensive how she would manage , she’s very much not a people person but I didn’t need to worry Christian had her engaged and hooked the knowledge and compassion Christian has was infectious and had Skylar fully invested in the whole experience, she’s learned lots of new realistic facts , such a positive magical experience, there is absolutely no where else you could go to be able to come close to this kind of experience from all creatures , critters and feathers big , small and Tank sized just amazing .
I honestly would strongly encourage anyone who is looking for a birthday treat or a day out or a Christmas gift with a difference to invest in the shop keeper experience , no matter what age you are , or if you have additional needs or disability’s staff are amazing and inclusive.

The Unconventional Menagerie is an incredible mix of rescue centre and pet shop. You can see, straight away, how much heart and hard work goes into caring for their animals. I was honestly surprised to see a few negative reviews about the smell or not being able to touch certain rescue, the comments feel unfair. Anyone who’s been around animals knows there’ll be natural smells, and respecting boundaries is part of responsible rescue work.

Christian, in particular, was absolutely brilliant. He’s warm, patient, and extremely knowledgeable. I took part in a venomous handling course where I learned to safely respect and handle rattlesnakes, gaboons, and even rare cobras. At every step, Christian made sure I felt safe and confident. My partner did their big reptile course and got to hold giant snakes and even feed a crocodile -an unforgettable experience.

Places like this don’t get outside funding, and they deserve the world for what they do. If you can, donate or support them however you’re able - it helps keep a truly special place like this going. We’ll definitely be back.

Terrible staff, so nasty and inexperienced. You should see how they respond to the reviews on Yell and Google. Disgusting, this place needs new staff or to shut down.
