An appalling and deeply concerning…
An appalling and deeply concerning experience involving Roper James and its successor firm, Thompson & Jackson.
Roper James acted for the seller in my attempted purchase of 62B Glenmore Avenue. In August 2025, I made an additional payment directly to Roper James at their request in connection with resolving serious title and registration problems affecting the property.
Despite taking that payment, the title issues were never resolved and the purchase ultimately collapsed after an extraordinary delay. My solicitor, the estate agent and others repeatedly chased Roper James for progress. I was even informed in writing that the conveyancer responsible had ignored emails and that the firm’s directors had been made aware of the situation. Still, no satisfactory resolution followed.
Roper James subsequently transferred or passed the matter to Thompson & Jackson after the firms joined. Thompson & Jackson therefore inherited full knowledge of this long-running problem. A formal legal notice has now been served on Thompson & Jackson, yet there has still been no substantive resolution, repayment or acceptable explanation.
This is not a minor delay. Money was taken in connection with work intended to address a defective title, the transaction remained unresolved for approximately a year and a half, the purchase failed, and I have now been forced to pursue recovery through formal legal channels.
Passing the matter from Roper James to Thompson & Jackson has not relieved either firm of the need to provide answers and resolve the outstanding payment. Their collective handling of this matter has demonstrated an extraordinary lack of urgency, accountability and professional ownership.
I am now preparing court proceedings to recover the money. Based on this documented experience, I could not recommend either Roper James or Thompson & Jackson for conveyancing work.
