A strange and untrustworthy dealer
A strange and untrustworthy watch dealer. I was interested in a pre-owned watch they had for sale on Chrono24, so I sent them a message, asking if they knew when the watch had last been serviced.
They responded: "The watch has been serviced by us, we are an IWC After Sales Service Center"
Great, I thought, and asked them if they could please put that fact on the receipt, so I had documentation that the watch had just been serviced. I also asked them to confirm that a box in the pictures was included and if they had tested the watch on a timegrapher and what the readings were. This can tell you something about the state of the watch's movement.
Now things got very strange.
They sent me no less than 3 pictures of a diploma someone in the shop had received for completing watchmaker training on IWC watches. But they didn't answer any of my questions and just wrote:
"We have sent you all the information, as an IWC service center you can be sure that the watch is in perfect condition."
I replied that they hadn't actually answered my questions and wrote: "If you have just serviced the watch, I expect it shouldn't be a problem to write on the receipt that the watch was just serviced?"
There was no reply at all now. 24 hours later I write:
"I am a bit confused. You write that you have just serviced the watch, but it seems to me that you are reluctant to put this information on the receipt if I buy the watch.
I don't understand. Can you clarify? My four questions are very straight forward questions about the watch you have for sale."
The response?
"You have 1 years warranty".
I reply:
"That's good, but please could you answer my questions? I am ready to buy the watch, but I need the clarification I have asked for. Have you serviced the movement, or not?"
Their reponse:
"Every watch is tested by us under the strictest criteria and shipped in perfect condition."
I reply: "So you mean that you have tested the watch? But not serviced it? I am sorry, but you are not being very clear."
I am trying to understand a simple fact about this watch for sale, but they reply:
"We are an IWC service point. and if you don't trust us and our reviews aren't enough, just shop elsewhere!"
Notice the exclamation mark. They have simply been asked to put in writing what they initially wrote to me, but now the communication is getting rude and dismissive.
I respond:
"I will. And I will write an honest review of your shop. What an unpleasant experience this has been. I am simply asking you some polite, basic pre-purchase questions. But you offer no clear answers and instead try to evade the questions."
Their response?
"You're just a difficult customer and have trouble grasping things [...] We will get in touch with chrono24 tomorrow and report the process, also that you threatened us. we hope that you will be banned from the platform."
I couldn't believe it, but that is my actual communication with this shop. I have in no way "threatened" this shop, and they are now throwing insults my way.
Obviously, I now have zero trust in this very unprofessional shop. You can draw your own conclusions from the communication above.
