Could have been so much better

It started well but the more in continued the worse it went.

The course positions itself as free of charge but it isn't: your friends pay for your studies. It's an okay scheme on its own but it shouldn't be called free.

After 8 weeks of the course, I did not feel that I learned anything or that I could receive any personalised feedback from teachers with paying extra money for one-to-one sessions. Teachers even did not give any comments when someone's sets were explicitly offensive. We worked more on delivery but everything related to choosing ideas, building a story, polishing material, navigating comedy scenes in London for the time after the course.

As for the management part, we were told that we need to sell 5 tickets by the end of the second week and 5 tickets by the end of the fourth week, however, already on Tuesday of the second week it turned out that we either sell today or can't participate in the concert. Considering that I wanted to try the first two sessions before committing to anything, I felt that the rules of the game are being changed in the middle of the game and the communication about it felt quite aggressive.

Then, the communication about the timing was vague and on the day of the show we still did not know for how long it would last, in what order we perform, etc. The evening show was announced to be from 18:30 to 21:30. In real life, it was closer to from 19 to 23:30. People who came to see the concert from other cities had to leave earlier and did not have a chance to see the person they came for. The professional photographer hired by ultra had to leave earlier and could not stay until the end of the concert. The person responsible for the red light to warn performers about their timing so that they would wrap up on time was not doing their job very well and this has drastically affected the concert's timing.

I absolutely love the idea of getting fun experiences and collecting money for charities but fundraising is also a skill that not everyone has and maybe an online course or advice in this regard would help many.

In general, I think ultra has a great potential but I wish they actually did what they said they would do.

So poorly run, it's beyond shocking!

Not surprised to see the rating is so low! Signed up for the event, needed information, and quite frankly had more chance of the second coming of Jesus happening before anyone getting back to me. So sad it's so poorly run, as it's a great idea for raising money for charity. Can't help but think someone else could use this idea and set up a better more easily contactable event and experience, that would be much more enjoyable for people taking part.

Advertised as a free stand-up comedy…

Advertised as a free stand-up comedy course centred on charity, but the experience lacked transparency.
The showcase was promoted as being held at Gorilla, which was used to encourage ticket sales. Less than a week before the event, it was moved to The Grosvenor, a much smaller student bar not suited to a ticketed comedy showcase.
It later appeared the original venue already had another event listed for the same date.
Teaching and feedback were limited throughout, with homework rarely reviewed and inconsistent support. The final event was loosely managed, with minimal audience control.
May suit confident, self-directed participants. Those expecting structured tuition, consistent feedback, and clear upfront information may want to consider a paid alternativ

Awful experience

Admin avoided answering questions, poorly organised, and wasn't given all the facts at the start. If you don't sell a minimum amount of tickets for an event, with no guidance or advice on how to do so, you are dumped without warning. Awful experience.

The training provided is excellent but be wary of prices and pitfalls.

The training provided is excellent and you make some very good friends along the way and deserves 5 stars.
The venue used was good but very hot! Bar prices were pretty reasonable.
The big catch is if your don't sell enough tickets they will pull you from the gig. The ticket prices are very high and put off a large number of possible audience members. They would have sold twice as many tickets had they dropped the price even by £10.

Unfortunately our show was let down by a late act being added who had not attended training and went on to be an arrogant, misogynistic and body shaming act, If they had attended training they would have known this was not on. They also brought with them members of the audience whose behaviour was crude and off putting for the acts as well as upsetting to other audience members.

Those of us who fully engaged had a brilliant experience only let down by the prohibitive cost of tickets and the actions of the new cast member and their supporters.

There's a Catch!

8 weeks of Standup comedy training that they claim is free but you have to sell a certain amount of tickets for the final show.

It does raise money for charity.
