Do not interact with this scam company

This company falsely claimed i have not paid for petrol, when I was not even in the country at the time. It is clearly an online scam. The worst thing you can to is interact with scammers as it just encourages them, whereas if you ignore them they will almost certainly just give up. If they have any proper evidence they will take you to court and that is where you should present any evidence. Not before. Do not be intimidated. An appeals process is something that is initiated only if a court of law finds against you. No private company has the right to require anything of you. Just ignore them and they will go away.

This is a scam outfit beware

This awful outfit sent me a letter saying I owed them money for a payment agreement to a petrol station that I had never heard of, using a car and number plate that wasn't mine in someone else's name!🙄I contacted the DVLA and the car wasn't linked to me at all, contacted the police too, emailed the scam artists VARS and wonderfully they've not even responded yet.absolutely disgraceful treatment of innocent people, the government needs to shut them down or fine them for scams, harassment, and trying to extort money by intimidating innocent people

Absolutely disgusting excuse for a…

Absolutely disgusting excuse for a company. I received a fine for an alleged non payment of fuel blatantly accusing me of theft and charging me £47 for a non payment of £12. The alleged incident was 27th Oct however penalty notice was published 30th November. Exactly a month later when CCTV would have been wiped. Letter arrived at my address on 9th December (so 9 days from posting!) leaving me very little time within the 14 day period to pay or appeal without fine being doubled. Doubt this was coincidental. I replied immediately sending an evidence of payment on a bank statement and I am yet to receive any acknowledgement or response despite several messages. Luckily the garage was close to home so I visited in person and the manager there was able to resolve the issue. However, had I not had the bank statement or been able to return to garage I have no doubt the fine would have kept doubling.
This company should be reported for fraudulent behaviour. My advice is to keep all receipts and photo evidence from fuel purchased anywhere where they are in operation.

Just another bunch of crooks

Another one of those companies you fell liek scraping off thebottom of your shoe. Looks like the cashier made an error in not adding my fuel to the other things I bought in the shop when I wnt in to pay (making the alledged crime of driving off technically incorrect) but there appears to be no recourse possible by the looks of things - just pay up or get taken to court. There companies really are the s h i t of the earth.

Vars technology is a SCAM company

Vars technology is a scam company, I recived a letter stating i did not pay for fuel and drove off, something I never done, they just sent me a picture of my car which does not mean i inserted fuel and did not pay, I have requested by email for them to provide me with evididence ie: cctv footage and if I have mistakenly did not pay I will pay, they did not saying they do not have cctv footage while claiming to be the worlds most advanced forecourt protection and parking solution, they are going as far as taking the matter to court over £20.

Do not fall for their SCAM if you recieve a letter, unless you are sure you did't pay.

Scam!!

Scam!!! Scam!!!Scam!!
I'm the same. Received a letter advising I drove off without paying.
Never in my life would I do this. I recall walking into the fuel station and paid in cash. I also advised them to check their CCTV outside and inside and they will clearly see me walking into the station and paying the cashier.
I've also gone on their website to appeal and suprise suprise they are supposed to email you a verification code to continue with the appeal and it never arrived.
How can companies get away with trying to Scam money out of innocent people.
Having just read previous reviews stating CCTV is deleted after 30 days what a coincidence they contact you after 30 days of the alleged offence.

Unhelpful. Shocking company

Recieved a drive off notice for fuel, for apparent unpaid fuel.
I contacted vars the day I recieved the letter... to appeal. Only email, as they do not have contact number.
I recieved an email back 12 days later. By this time they had sent another fine doubling the amount.
Certainly not helpful company, as not prepared to look into it. My advice send them a formal letter and formal email of complaint and ring citizens advice.

ABSOLUTE SCAM !!!!!!!!!

Vars Technology have accused me of driving off without paying for my petrol!
This is utterly ridiculous and a SCAM!
I am the most law abiding citizen and wouldn’t ever be stupid enough to even think about doing something like this!!!!!
I have now had 2 Debt collectors letters asking for £160 and several calls from them .
I have spoken to action fraud , Trading standards and DVLC.
Surely this company can not do this to innocent people !!! I will be taking this further and talking to a solicitor!
This “Drive off” allegedly took place on 2nd July 2025, I received my first letter from DCBL on 15th September 25 demanding £160 immediately
I have asked them for proof of my alleged offence but I know they wouldn’t have it because I am innocent and of course I haven’t received anything from them .
I remember the day of 2/07/225 as I was driving to Aldershot and yes I did drive into the CO-OP PETROL FORECOURT but as it was busy I drove out again, I did not get any petrol at this garage as I was short on time .
They have picked on the wrong person this time !!!!!!

They accused me of a drive off

They accused me of a drive off. However, I didn't drive off. I had paid on the day via a fuel card which meant I gave the cashier my Car Registration and had proof via the Fuel Card Statement.
Whilst trying to establish what had happened I tried to contact the VARS customer email address.
They took ages to respond. By which point I realised the garage, had put through the wrong fuel. So they were trying to collect the difference.
VARS took so long in responding, that the charge levied had increased. They had no interest in my situation.

Useless customer service, breached GDPR, don't understand the law

I had this unfortunate experience of dealing with this company on and off for a few months.

I received a letter from DCBL wanting £130, with little explanation.

After a 30 minute phone call they stated it was for a drive off (failure to pay for fuel) and I could get the proof from VARS. I paid the fine and placed a complaint in to VARS requesting proof.

Enter their absolutely shocking complaints procedure.

Apparently they only deal with complaints for 30 days, but because I never got their letters this was around 4 months after the incident - side note (I don’t believe they ever sent them, I don’t live at the address but have a royal mail redirect in place which has worked flawlessly for everything for 4 years).

I was told to send proof of ID to get the evidence. I explained my situation of the ID would be in the form of Emirates ID, they said they needed the ID. They then stonewalled me for 2 months before telling me the proof of ID did not meet their requirements - of which they never shared with me.

I went to the owners of the petrol station and completed a GDPR request to get my information, along with the same for VARS and DCBL. I was given 1 photograph without timestamp, and told there was another photograph of the person inside the store and purchasing goods but didn’t pay for fuel.

I requested video evidence but they couldn’t provide it, they delete cctv after 30 days, despite no payment being made (it took 4 months for me to find out about it) They tried to say GDPR they have no reason to store it, which is a load of rubbish.

Essentially, after some backwards and forwards with the petrol station, with the threat of small claims court (which they tried to scare me out of saying I would have to pay their fee’s if I lost, news flash you can’t claim costs in small claims court) the petrol station eventually refunded me without an admission of wrongdoing

I raised an ICO complaint about VARS, absolute waste of time, I highlighted how they were in the wrong ICO tier paying incorrect fees, and how they breached my GDPR, the ICO basically told me to take them to court if I am unhappy.

Had to deal with them? Request video evidence which shows the cashier didn’t take a mistake or pocket the money.

Also email your local councilor about the unregulated industry these lowlife are exploiting. I mean £120 in fee’s for £10 of fuel they have no proof wasn’t paid for….

People who work here are the lowest of the low, hoping people will pay and not complain. They’ll move on to the next unregulated thing eventually.

Petrol drive off scam

Petrol drive off scam!
On the 20th Of July I paid Cash for my £20.13 Petrol and the 29th of August I got a letter through the door saying I drove off fro £20.13 so I drove to the Petrol station to sort it out and I asked for proof because it sounds ridiculous and they said fine I will contact you Tommorow about the CCTV which they never so I went back again and they said the company giving the fine may which is called VARS TECHNOLOGY may have the CCTV and may not have the CCTV but they wont so I said which one is it? And BP do not have the footage of me committing a crime and delete the footage, I said am I the luckiest guy alive ever? The staff barely know english so it made it really hard to try sort the situation and I said just ring the police and ill wait here and they said no we aint ringing the police on you so I said this is stupid would I not just take a full tank of fuel and not £20.13? Ill ring them myself so I called 101 they sound it sounds ridiculous and a scam and give me BP complaint number which finally got VARS TECHNOLOGY to reply since they were ignoring me and they said we dont have the footage either and these things happen. I have proof of every email and phone call conversation, now on the 29th of September 2025 they sent me another letter so I emailed and they said they somehow have the footage now of the crime so I said okay, well how did you get the footage back and what happened on the footage then? I replied within 10 seconds of the email and still nothing. Contacting 101 again but this time also Citizens Advice!

If they don't refund my £30, we're going to court

On 31st July of this year a colleague and I stopped at Heartlands services for fuel and oil. I went through the usual procedure to pay with my fuel card- handed over card, advised teller of pump number, vehicle reg and mileage, signed receipt and left.

Over a month later- by a remarkable coincidence after any CCTV evidence would have been deleted showing the teller's mistake- my colleague got a letter from VARS Technology claiming he hadn't paid for fuel on the day in question, and that the fuel had to be paid along with a £30 recovery charge.

I emailed them to explain. No response. Because the deadline for payment was coming I emailed again and explained that I had paid the amount in full to avoid my colleague's car reg getting blacklisted, but I expected the £30 admin fee to be refunded.

After a week a Trahearne McBride emailed and advised that I'd need written confirmation from the registered keeper of the vehicle so that they could discuss the matter with me. I obtained this.

Finally, after providing the requested permission, Trahearne stated it was my responsibility to check the cashier's work for them, that admin fees were non refundable, and that because the amount was paid the case was closed. He knew damn fine that this would be his reply, but chose to make jump through hoops anyway.

Well he's been told that the case is not closed, and that if the £30 is not refunded by Friday 4th October we're going to court. Scots Law is based on the premise that people act reasonably, and I am quietly confident of proving this in court.

VARS Technology does not exist to target forecourt crime. Because the kind of people who deliberately drive off use fake plates or stolen cars. No, they exist to recoup money from cashiers mistakes. Whilst nobody disputes that fuel must be paid for in spite of any mistake, I think the matter of "Recovery Charges" is one for debate. Especially given that VARS will be charging fuel companies for the use of their technology and will make a decent sum.
