I went to the Burnham PureGym on Thursday night and parked just by the entrance. After finishing my workout, I returned to find my car had been broken into the passenger window was shattered.
I emailed the gym requesting CCTV footage for insurance purposes and only received a reply three days later. The response was essentially, “Sorry to hear about your car being broken into. We can only send CCTV footage to the police, who have to request it from us directly with a DPA form.”

What makes this more concerning is that when I spoke to other people about the incident, almost everyone had their own story about either a break-in or a car being stolen at this gym. That’s very sad to hear and shows a recurring issue.

While I understand procedures around CCTV, I believe gyms have a responsibility to protect their members and their property while they’re on site. Better lighting, security presence, or even proactive communication about these risks could make a real difference
