The Good and the Ugly
I will start with the good. The food is pretty good on a whole. Sometimes it is a miss but more than often not. The recipes are easy to fix and don't take a great deal of time. Okay for the Ugly.
I hear that Hello Fresh is really fresh but maybe because I am from the Northwest and the food is trucked in from a good ways, it is soft and not really that fresh.
My vegetables always seemed old. I have on multiple occasions replaced the supplied vegetables with my own.
The recipes are pretty limited. If you require a special diet then I don't suggest them, or really any food delivery service like them. I am diabetic and I have high blood pressure. I take medicine for both. Unfortunately, though they usually have 4 or so recipes that are low on salt, but probably not great for diabetics and I hope you like them. Not a big selection of restricted diet food.
That being said that is an under-represented market that I hope someone takes on one of these days. Seniors could use these types of programs and especially one geared to their specific needs.
The calories per servings are listed, which is nice but somehow the servings that my husband and I recieved seemed quite large. So I am pretty certain that they send more than 2 servings on many of their meals which is nice, unless you are trying to stick to an diet plan. Which of course we are.
So the bottom line. Is Hello fresh good? Well it depends on your needs. If you are young, not on a restricted diet of any kind, not particularly concerned with calories, live close to their distribution center; ya, I think you have a winner. If any of the above applies there are way better options. I am now trying Emeals which is a menu plan that I can set up, shop and pick up at a local merchant. It is a great deal more flexible and also you can add additional recipes. I am sure it is more work but not enough to risk my health.
