87% negative reviews

87% negative reviews. I have to agree. They sell airline tickets through Expedia and Expedia only cares that you are over 18. Tried to use purported restaurant discounts a couple of times but found too many restrictions to even make it worth mentioning. And no! Not 87% of reviews are by old people wanting to complain. Not even the Guardian can find 87% of people willing to complain about Trump.

Their programs to help seniors with insurance savings is junk. Hartford Insurance who they claim to be so good would not even insure our home due to a small claim on an older home we owned.
Small claim we had with prior company and now they won’t cover our new home.
Horrible service

Do better, AARP!

Do better, AARP! We constantly receive renewal notices although I mark down how long our "membership" is good for, and you cannot fool us! You consistently send us renewal notices for a 'discounted rate' if we sign up for 5 years. However, we signed up for an additional five years earlier this year and you STILL send us notices to renew (we do understand one may pass in the mail, but come on!). We believe you do this to take advantage of older people who are not as tech savvy and may not check to see when their memberships end. ADDITIONALLY, we received CARDBOARD cards that only say that we've been a "member since" (xx date). They no longer are plastic NOR do they say when our membership is good through. So, we've started marking it down for our own information since we can NOT trust you to do the right thing and only send us a renewal notice in another 4.5 years.

This company takes advantage of…

This company takes advantage of customers. I have a homeowners and auto policy. What they disclose to you when selling you the policy differs from what you receive. I am very disappointed that this company advertises they assist senior citizens when they do not.
I am searching for a new company to insure my home and auto. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY

Is AARP a Scam…

AARP continually sends "renewal " notices in an attempt to deceive members that have months left on their current memberships. They either are extremely inefficient or scammed. My opinion is the latter.

2 months waiting on ID cards…

Ordered cards 3/17 called 3x times spoke with a supervisor on the 4th call same Dog & Pony show! Even digital card was not accepted by the retailers need bar code, we checked address, account, blamed the vendors. Offered let mr extend membership for 3 months for free we'll your not extending it by the time I receive the cards will be 3 months! No concierge service it's gone! AI could do just as poorly in the meantime lost alot of discount aka money! Yet membership not free! Sad they know most places will not accept digital yet they try to convince me! If I didnt need the membership for other programs I would no longer renew AARP doesn't care about their membership only interested in allowing companies like UHC & The Hartford to brand their name & pay them a huge fee to allow then to use AARP name but this is when they were trusted AARP needs to experience attrition & start with CEO hire people who have both the will & skill to do the job!

I recommend being very cautious with AARP. I signed up in 2023 and canceled my membership. It was then renewed again in 2024 without my authorization. After canceling a second time, the membership was renewed again for five years through my PayPal account without my consent.
This was extremely frustrating and concerning. I strongly encourage others to closely monitor their subscriptions and payment methods.

AARP recommend Hartford and we feel had.

We went with the Hartford for insurance. Just had a rock hit the windshield from an oncoming truck. Turns out Hartford has NO glass coverage regardless of deductible and we are going to be out $700+. Never heard of no glass coverage. Shame on AARP for recommending. Makes worry about homeowners policy. Never should have switched.

The primary mission of AARP is to scam vunerable seniors out of money...

The primary mission of AARP is to scam seniors out of money. You can prepay you membership dues for 20 years, and every time you log onto the AARP website your are bombarded with messages to sign up for automatic renewal. The rewards program is a total scam designed to entice you to sign up for automatic renewal. If you do not they change the rules to penalize you for not signing up.

The products and services they are paid to advertise do not save seniors money. Every product or service provider I contact for quotes, when I mention the services and companies I use, they always say they cannot offer better terms and hang up without asking how much I pay for services and products. None of the services or products I use are advertised on AARP because they are honest and reliable and have no need to use scam tactics to take advantage of gullible seniors.

AARP used to be a valuable asset. Now AARP is nothing but a scam to fleece vulnerable seniors out of money. When my current membership expires (Member Since June 2013 and expires April 2027) I will not renew.

Finally got to online account put in info it insisted on choices I did not want. Finally did it and renewed waiting for a confirmation number nothing. Not in text or email. Tried chat says speak to human between 8 and 5 eastern time. Absolutely useless. May canceled it next year and save my 20 bucks.

They don’t answer their phone during business hours for their fraud line and you can’t text ore email. They never sent me a membership card. So I can’t log into their website. I can’t email them and there is no address I can write to them. I tried texting them and it didn’t work.

Beware of leaving your credit card…

Beware of leaving your credit card information on the AARP member portal. My card (which had expired) was somehow charged anyway when my membership was about to end. I did not want to renew my membership. Anyway, I saw that my current card was charged $20 even though I did not authorize the charge. How AARP was able to charge an expired credit card is mysterious in itself. DO NOT TRUST AARP.

If I could give a ZERO review I would

If I could give a ZERO review I would.
From the start it was a nightmare
I told the support person that I am from Canada and he assured me that it’s the same thing and the service was identical.
I need the support person to create a pass word It took 8 attempts. The first 5 using the Safari browser. He kept blaming Apple for this So we switched to Chrome still 3 more attempts.
He then quoted me $20.00 USD per year
Another 10-15 minutes to set up my account. Lo and behold he accidentally made a mistake. Canadians have to pay $32.00 USD. One might think that a support person would know that.
After over an hour it was set up.
Then I was getting emails and text messages seemingly every hour telling about all the valuable services.
After booking a hotel room through AARP I double checked Wyndham rewards and their price was less as was Trivago
Then I got a price to rent a car with AARP and the price on Expedia and the price there was lower.
I then checked the various online reviews which in hindsight I should have done first. The reviews on several websites Trustpilot as well as BBB were generally negative. I called to cancel. The call center person kept apologizing and asking what they could do for me not to cancel.
There is no reason to remain a member.
When I asked for a simple email confirming the cancellation I was told that the is no way they can send an email.
REALLY!!! This is 2026!!!
Text messages and emails tying to get me to use AARP’S services but no cancellation via email.
I was told that a letter will arrive in the mail in about a month.
AARP is clearly not worth it
Stay away!!!

Myechia Minter-Jordan is a horrific CEO…

Myechia Minter-Jordan is a horrific CEO of AARP, as are the heads of departments. I've been a member for over 11 years, and have had issues this year. When the heads of departments would not respond to my texts, emails, or phone calls, I sent two letters with very specific information to Myechia Minter-Jordan. I had dates, times, names, etc. She will not respond at all, so now I understand why her staff don't respond. They're following the lead of their CEO. BEWARD BEFORE SIGNING UP, AND LOOK TO SEE WHAT THE CEO IS PAID. LOTS OF MONEY AND NOT RESPONDING TO CUSTOMERS (HORRIFIC CUSTOMER SERVICE!)
