RIPPED AT THE AIRPORT
As required by consumer law Airport Rentals did not provide an upfront inclusive price on their website that was able to be compared to other rental quotes.
This omission was found out after the fact when I noticed on my credit card statement I had been overcharged.
I lodged a complaint but the company is choosing to hide behind the fact they emailed a booking confirmation that did in fact outline the airport charges payable at the airport. HOWEVER, on-line these costs were included in the quote provided.
In their words "I acknowledge your view that the pricing presented online should clearly reflect the final booking cost and understand your concern that the additional fees were not sufficiently transparent."
The rating is two stars as I have used Airport Rentals on many occasions and have never experienced this deception with their on-line upfront quotes. Otherwise the review would be one star - I now choose not to choose Airport Rentals again.

We identified that this presentation could cause confusion and have since updated how this information is displayed.

DO NOT BUY RENTAL INSURANCE ONLINE - DO IT AT PICKUP
Booking the car with Airport Rental insurance was easy on the Hertz website for a rental car at DFW. My flight was delayed and Hertz closed at 1 AM before I arrived to get my car. I phoned Hertz prior to the pick up day and the automated AI moved my rental pick up to Arlington, the town I was headed to, for pick up at 8 AM. I had to take a taxi from the airport to my hotel spending extra money I had not planned to spend. The following morning I spent more money to take an UBER to the Hertz location in Arlington to pickup my confirmed reservation for a car. I presented the attendant with my confirmed reservation and was told that they had NO CAR for me even though I had a confirmed reservation. I was told to call hertz and speak to a representative. Hertz told me that I could get a car in Midlothian which was 20+ plus miles away and upon me asking exactly how I was going to get there, the agent hung up on me. I called back and asked a new representative to refund any and all monies and cancel my reservation due to no cars avail. The cancellation was confirmed by Hertz and I was assured I was not charged. The next morning I noticed that I had not received a refund for the rental insurance that was purchased on Hertz website with my car booking. The only way to reach Airport Rental was via email AND they are in Australia. I reached out via email and explained the situation to them only to be told that I could not get a refund for the insurance because I did not cancel 24 hours prior to the scheduled pick up. I explained again that it was out of my control and I was not a fault for Hertz NOT having a car for me even though I had a confirmed reservation. They still held their ground about the cancellation. I am still trying to get to someone reasonable at Airport Rental to review my case as I feel that I have been scammed out of the rental insurance fee which I had no control of. My last communication to them I asked “How exactly could I have cancelled prior to pick up when I was expecting to receive a vehicle as confirmed by my reservation, and I would like a manager/supervisor to review my case and get back to me.” I am still awaiting a response.

They lied about insurance
I booked and checked terms and conditions of my booking with them. They explicitly say under the insurance you pay for that you’ll reimburse costs if an accident occurs.
Only to turn up to my booking and be told the company they’d provided a car through charges a $4000 fee for any damage. Even a scratch is still a $4000 fee to my card.
They gave me two options purchase their insurance (double the price) or sign the sheet. I tried to cancel yours and despite your policy saying I could online . It wouldn’t let me. Tried to call but they have no number. Tried to send a email but their website form is not iPhone compatible. Tried live chat and got a useless AI bot.
I had four hours of travel ahead that I cannot miss for work. So now I’ve had to sign a terms and conditions to get my car that they explicitly said would not happen.
Don’t trust them. Buy elsewhere.
Edit & update :
Company has been in touch finally and they claim that even after purchasing full protection I could still be required to pay full excess of $4000 up front and only seek reimbursement afterwards.
That is materially different from how the protection was presented before purchase, and from the documentation they and their insurance company presented to me after purchase.
I have requested multiple times they resolve this and make right this lack of disclosure and I am now reporting to obudsman due to no further reply from the company.

During the booking process, we disclose the applicable rental excess and explain that the protection offered through our website is an independent excess reimbursement product. This means that, in the event of an accident or vehicle damage, you would first need to pay the rental company for the damage (up to the excess amount stated in your rental agreement). You can then submit a claim for reimbursement, provided the rental and protection terms and conditions have been complied with.
The protection purchased through our website can be cancelled free of charge before vehicle collection. If you were unable to cancel it online, this may have been because the cancellation request was made after the scheduled pickup time, as online cancellation is no longer available once the rental has commenced.
Your booking confirmation voucher also includes our customer support email address and phone number should you require assistance.
Unfortunately, we have been unable to locate your booking based on the information provided in your review. Could you please reply with your booking reference number (starting with IM)? We would welcome the opportunity to review your booking and contact you directly to address your concerns.
