I had a/s on my vehicle for 5 yrs. Never used it until 4/15/26. Then they tried to short change me with the lowest quality parts for my vehicle, and basically wasn’t going to cover the labor. The average labor rate for the type of repair is about $200 per exhaust manifold, a/s wanted to $54. They also took forever start the claim. Over 1 hour with my mechanic and nothing was finalized! This was ridiculous! Needless to say I dropped Car Shield and I do not recommend them!

Do your self a favor and avoid( Car…

Do your self a favor and avoid( Car shield, Auto Shield or Carchex) at all costs. They seem to keep changing their name due to having a lousy warranty. Terrible product and lousy customer service. AC went out on 2020 Ram and my out of pocket should have been $100 but was over $600. All exclusion coverage is far from it. Put the money you would pay for this garbage in saving account.

Nothing but a hassle.

I am a Carshield costumer, AAS is the policy administrator. I have a vehicle that needed a power control module. Even though the repair is supposed to be "fully covered" under my policy I am having to pay out of pocket for repair hours and the part because AASs "vendor is out of the part." I found a cheaper part at NAPA but AAS refuses to pay for it because it "is not their vendor."

AAS also no longer pays upfront for rentals, they operate on a reimbursement only policy, even though the contract clearly states that they may pay for a rental.

A customer cannot speak to an adjuster, supervisors never return calls and everyone I have spoken to has been extremely rude.

During this repair process AAS has continuously caused delays, and put obstructions in the way of having the covered repair actually take place. Going on over a month now since the claim was reported.

The worst customer service I’ve ever…

The worst customer service I’ve ever received. They claim they reach out to update clients but don’t. My car has been in the shop for 1 week past the estimated finish date and they don’t want to pay for the rental car I need. They didn’t pay for the parts needed to properly repair my Range Rover. I don’t recommend any warranty with auto shield. It’s a waste of money. They only approved refurbished parts. Out of pocket costs rise and rise due to lack of communication and accountability.

They suck

They suck. They charge me for stuff that should be covered. Argued with the shop about how long it should take, etc. DONT BUY THEIR WARRANTY THEY ARE THIEVES

Disappointed

I'd give it a zero star if it would allow me. Have had a Platinum w Luxury Electronics & Labor plan for the past 3 years on my 2011 Mini Cooper Countryman. I have spent 6,499 dollars in the past 3 yrs for coverage. I filed two claims during that time. Both were denied. Nothing positive to say about them. I cancelled my policy. Wish I had done it sooner.

My first claim

My first claimwith Home Safe/Armis. That was a flop. I did get a call from a very nice lady explaining the problem and fixed it. I do not like you have to pay deductible up front - why - well what if they don;t show up? Guess what - they did not show nor call? Its Saturday - everyone is gone for the weekend - now I have to wait until Monday. not a good way to start. Ready to cancel this mess.

Beware of Carchex which claims are processed by American Auto Shield

Do not use CARCHEX extended warrant,y they are a total rip off have had them for over a year, brought my 2015 Toyota truck in for brakes rotors ok not covered, understood BUT the calipers are according to the list,no my mechanic/owner spent 3hours on the phone during his work day on hold call return they told him no they had rust and corrosion he had to send photos,,so long story and me flipping out at CARCHEX we live in NE and they use salt on roads every freaking vechicle has rust or corrosion underneath so I dumped them and wasted money for a pathetc b/s warranty,, they tried to tell me I should keep it you would not cover calipiers what makes you think they will cover anything under the truck or hood

One of the worst experiences I’ve ever had – Stay Far Away from CarShield

I don’t usually write reviews, but my experience with CarShield has been so unbelievably awful that I feel obligated to warn others. From beginning to end, their entire process is long, uncomfortable, stressful, and incredibly difficult to navigate. What should have been a simple warranty claim turned into a drawn-out nightmare filled with confusion, delays, and a complete lack of support.

Every single customer service representative I spoke with was rude, dismissive, and did absolutely nothing to help. No one takes responsibility, and I was constantly passed from one department to another, repeating the same story over and over again—only to get nowhere. It’s emotionally exhausting and feels like they’re deliberately trying to wear you down, so you’ll give up.

To make matters worse, this company does business in a way that feels outright fraudulent. They promise coverage and peace of mind, but the second you actually need help, they look for every excuse in the book to deny your claim. It’s a bait-and-switch operation at its finest.

Even worse, many mechanics refuse to work with CarShield. I’ve been turned away multiple times by repair shops who told me flat-out that they won’t deal with CarShield because of how difficult, slow, and untrustworthy the company is. Imagine the embarrassment and frustration of having your car in need of service, only to be rejected because of the warranty company you trusted.

And if your vehicle ends up in the shop for an extended time due to their delays, don’t expect much help—CarShield only offers seven days of paid rental coverage, even if the repair takes far longer because of their own incompetence. After that, you’re on your own, footing the bill or left without transportation entirely.

This has easily been one of the most uncomfortable, aggravating, and stressful experiences I’ve ever had with any company. I wouldn’t recommend CarShield to my worst enemy. You’re much better off saving your money and paying for repairs out of pocket than going through the circus that is CarShield’s so-called warranty service.

Frustrating and Blame-Shifting Experience

Dealing with CarShield has been nothing short of a headache. Anytime there's a delay with my vehicle, they’re quick to point fingers at the repair shop—even when it's clear the fault lies with them. The shop has bent over backwards to meet every one of their endless requests, providing documents, diagnostics, photos—you name it. But no matter how much the shop does, CarShield always finds a way to say it's not good enough and reject it. It feels like they’re just looking for excuses to avoid approving the work. Incredibly frustrating and definitely not the peace of mind they promise when you sign up.

So I came here to share my experience with carshield. My car has been at my repair shop for 4 weeks now. Basically, just sitting. The reason it's still just sitting is because carshield keeps Requesting photos that my mechanic have set to them several times already. They just continue to say they didn't receive it and my mechanic needs to call in, which he did several times already. They even had an inspector come out to look at my car. This has been the worst experience ever! Every part of the process was a complete disaster. Not one single person actually helped me. My mechanic is so fed up with carshield and all their hoops he really suggested I just take my car and just go. Nothing about this was a peace of mind. Actually, carshield has made the process very very very complicated. I was definitely more stressed with absolutely no peace of mind throughout this entire process. Please DO NOT US THEM. THEY ARE COMPLETE FRAUD. They honestly deserve a negative five star

Technical Service Bulletin and Transmission

Motor vehicles have two horns so when you honk, three is a high and low sound emitted, One of mine stopped working so when I honk, it is high pitched and not a loud sound. The claim was denied because the horn "worked."

Transmission began having difficulty shifting. Took it to dealership who determined it was failing. Adjustor denied claim because Ford had a "technical service bulletin" on the problem so that mechanics knew how to fix. There is a sneaky clause in my contract that American Auto Shield will NOT repair failures if there is a Technical Service Bulletin on the item. It is NOT a recall, just information to the repair shop how to fix.

I regret not seeing that clause and, at the time I purchased the agreement, understanding the impact of a simple Technical Service Bulletin.

Update- thank you for your response. As I stated in my initial entry, I acknowledge the clause about TSB's but wished I had noticed it when I purchased the contract. That clause is something I will most certainly look for and absolutely avoid with future such contracts. Regarding the horn, your inspector is just plain wrong! I can send you an audio of my "'63 Volkswagen Van" sounding horn. Thank you.

Upon further review, it appears an Inspector verified there was no failures regarding the horn and confirmed it had a dual-tone. We do require a cause of failure, as we can only cover the parts that are listed for coverage per your contract. Beyond VERY disappointed and shocked…

Beyond VERY disappointed and shocked that my claim was denied with little explanation via a phone call from American Auto Shield (claim #2596833)! I purchased coverage in July 2024 and claim was filed in January 2025. I requested a thorough WRITTEN explanation as to why the claim was denied and NEVER got a response! I only received an email that I could download my contract to review it! The repair shop has tried to help with handling of this claim and still the claim was denied. Quite frankly, I still do not understand why it was denied because I never received a detailed explanation of the denial, per my verbal request to the claims adjuster.

In addition, I feel completely misled by the sales representative when I purchased this Gold coverage! I had inquired with multiple warranty companies and decided to go with CarShield/American Auto Shield. I should have done better research into this company! Come to find out that there was a BIG lawsuit against the company for false advertising in 2024 to the tune of $10 million! I feel completely misled, lied to, and jerked around! I am writing this review to WARN others! BEWARE of purchasing warranty coverage from this company!! Don't believe all that hype from celebrities on the commercials either!

In the meantime, I am searching for what I can do to appeal the denial. I was told by claims representative via phone that I could NOT appeal the denial decision! Seems completely fishy AND possibly worthy of a complaint to Colorado Insurance Commissioner as well as seeking legal advice (which I cannot afford because I wasted my money on monthly payments for the Gold policy that was not worth one penny of the money I spent!)! All around BAD FAITH claim denial practices!

Don't waste your time or money on this company! I don't usually write reviews, but feel that this negative review is needed for the public! By the way - this company is NOT accredited by Better Business Bureau!

The records prior to and after the contract purchase confirm a pre-existing issue with improper/incomplete repairs addressing an overheat and engine noise issue. The improper prior repairs and diagnosis from the previous repair facility along with continued operation of the vehicle with intermix caused additional damage to the engine and transmission. The contract excludes coverage for repairs resulting from improper or incomplete prior repairs or diagnosis. Also, the contract excludes coverage for damage caused by continued operation after a failure has occurred. We have emailed a denial letter to the email we have on file for you. American Auto Shield is a Scam – Avoid at All Costs!

I purchased a Powertrain Gold warranty (Contract #: CHXM5269906) through Carchex, and American Auto Shield (AAS) was assigned as the claims administrator. When my vehicle broke down, AAS wrongfully denied my valid claim, citing an incorrect service record. However, CARFAX later corrected this error, and the repair facility issued a written apology, confirming no prior issues with my vehicle. Despite having clear evidence, AAS still refused to honor my claim.

I have provided every required document, including a diagnostic report proving no pre-existing issues and a photo before towing showing no warning lights. Instead of fairly reviewing my case, AAS has ignored my communications, delayed the process, and refused to take accountability.

AAS engages in bad faith claim denials and makes customers jump through endless hoops to avoid paying out. They will take your money and leave you stranded when you need them most.

Do NOT trust American Auto Shield! If you want a warranty that actually protects you, look elsewhere!

Seek class action

I'd like to know if everyone who has been scammed by this company saying they won't pay or only pay rates not for the area they sold the warranty. Also only paying 50% of the cost of the part. I'm seeking an attorney to sue them in a class action suit. Not to take our money.

Well tried to get my cars warranty to do Any work with this Shady company Everytime I called and spoke with rep I was denied any repairs or diagnostic fees etc. Horrible company just my opinion now I'm out of pocket 1 estimate and over $506.25 for lousy warranty that cost them 0$ sooo paid for 5 months for nothing never used it 1 time! Spent years on hold on phone dispute Dept from my lovely bank Fidelity Investments brokerage bad also used Mellon Bank BNY and found I Was at Fault !! For not being a first class Lawyer !!! Unbelievable don't Do any business with any of these institutions please for warned is for armed!! They will not reimburse my monthly payment or anything else!!! Minus 10- Thank you !

zero stars. Our business will no longer be accepting american auto shield . took 3 hours and 9 phone calls and a week to get them to pay out on a 209$ claim they approved days prior. They tell you 48 hours and it's been 3 days and no one know left from right so they definitly have no clue whats going on. Hold the customers car for a week for a thirty minute repair because we only have 1 worker and she's behind. They ask you to speak to the tech about diag and they hang up so you have to call back and start over. Extra proffessional. Joe blow tells some made up story about why payment hasn't been approved after 3 days when it's a max of 2 days to receive payment. What gives? Grow up! Hire workers that know their a++ from a hole in the ground and have your workers all stick to the same lies. Thanks

This company works with Car Shield

This company works with Car Shield, this company does not pay claims and comes up with reasons to not pay a claim. After reviewing my contract nothing is mentioned about sensors not being covered especially the DPF sensor. It only states that it is not covered if removed or modification. My sensor was just normal wear and simply need to be replaced.
Now I had to pay 641.xx dollars out of my pocket that I did not have.

Do better for the dealerships and customers..

Do better for the dealerships that try to work with you guys. Powertrain claims take FOREVER and the claims process just sucks!! Customers are without their vehicles for weeks and the dealerships are the ones that have to deal with the upset customers.
