PLEASE AVOID INSURING WITH THIS COMPANY. It is the most unsatisfactory company in New Zealand. They may offer lower monthly premiums, but when you face an issue, they will delay for nearly a month. We experienced a ceiling issue caused by heavy rain and a storm in Auckland, which led to water leaking through the ceiling. Initially, they were very courteous and repeatedly assured us that the damage would be covered; however, I had to contact them almost every day for four weeks before discovering unexpectedly that they were categorizing the damage as wear and tear rather than sudden damage. We were left to manage the ceiling leak independently. They are completely unaccommodating. PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM SUCH FRAUDULENT COMPANIES THAT ONLY SEEK TO PROFIT FROM THE PUBLIC.

I am totally blown away by the person who put thru my request re payments for ami. The person was so friendly. I work in hospitality and am use to engaging with people who show little interest, so was in awe of how engaged in helping me this person was.

I had a car accident involving another vehicle.
From the initial contact with AMI via 0800 number through to the Sydenham AMI HUB contacting me to organize a courtesy car and communication made everything so easy. The staff at the front desk through to the workshop were fantastic. Professional, helpful making sure the process didn't over complicate anything. I'm pleased to have my car back, when these things happen its good to have insurance cover and a team there that is supportive.

I'd prefer to give zero stars. Full insurance? Nope, they have no problem forcing you to take cheap third party parts that change what your car looks like. After lying to you and telling you they will look the same.
Sorted within 5 hours.

I submitted the claim at 12:30 on Thursday, at 1:30pm I received a call from a customer service agent, she had the $1200 direct credit into bank and at 4:30pm we had Noel Leeming call to say the new phone was available for collection. Thats what I call service. Thank you Manpreet Kaur for your good work.

My daughters car had smoke pouring out of it.. She pulled over near a forest Rotorua. Someone stopped and as you could smell rubber burning under the bonnet. They suggested using their fire extinguisher. My daughter agreed as didn’t want to set forest alite. AMI towed to garage. Took over a week to send an Assessor who said she is not covered for fire or damage done by fire extinguisher. This was under full cover. As foam left for a week on the engine it wil corrode it. Now she is ver worried Is it safe?

Was advised when making car claim that the Hornby hub had all the latest equipment and loan vehicles available,
Small dent on front mudguard, They replaced guard,
When i went to pick up my vehicle i noticed the colour match was totally wrong and they had painted the door as well,
was told it must be the light, Utter rubbish, I left the car there for next attempt,
Went back again this time Guard did not line up with body line and had painted the whole side of my vehicle, Had so much orange peel in paint and runs,
Attempt number 3, Sanded paint and polished, Still quite average but Ive given up with them

I tried to have a content insurance with them and have never dealt with such annoying customer service..
I spent 30 minutes answering the same questions again and again . Four times told the guy that I have 2 bedrooms in an apartment only to be asked again at least three times if I have a spa! Or a shed! If AMI chooses their employees according to their stupidity…They did well🥹
After a lengthy conversation which I got nowhere, I hung up and sorted my insurance on line with AMP, simple fast and cheaper.
Avoid AMI.
Total lack of communication
I accepted their house insurance quote and paid the annual premium.
The insurance would have been effective from 6 December 2025.
By 8 December I had NOT received any form of confirmation or policy document.
I tried to call their 800 number (press 1 for this, 2 for that, 3 for something else, seemingly with no end to this impersonal nonsense) but gave up after listening for half an hour to music and their annoying pre-recorded messages.
Is anybody actually working at their office, or are they dealing with robots only?
All I wanted to know is: Am I covered and when can I expect the policy documents?

Terrible customer service. Want you to do their job for them. CCTV footage is not given to the general public for privacy reasons. Won't be using in the future.
No way to contact
I need to contact them to make a revision to my policy but can not make contact them as the automated phone system just cuts me off, nor can I make contact via email.

5 Stars for Sonil or Sunil who was quick efficient and easy to communicate with. He checked my car and advised my battery had 3% battery life. Asked if he was able to change it. He answered questions i had and also showed me how to check oil and advised my oil was fine. THANK YOU HEAPS :)
Always on your side, yeah right!
We recently had our hot water cylinder burst and reached out to our insurer for help. Instead of offering any real support or guidance, their response focused entirely on what they wouldn’t cover. At a time when we expected assistance, we were met with disclaimers and exclusions. We’ve been loyal customers with multiple policies, but this experience has left us extremely disappointed. We’ll be moving our policies elsewhere and sharing our experience so others are aware. “Always on your side” clearly doesn’t apply when you actually need them.
Run before you get stuck
No wonder AMI Insurance has received poor reviews. I recently contacted them for a quote on a newly built house, and the process was disappointing from the start. Their website directed me to call their 0800 number, and I waited around 5 minutes to get connected—compare that with another insurer who picked up in just 5 seconds.
Once connected, I explained that I needed a quote for a house that would be handed over the following week. We went through the standard questions until we reached one about the status of the property. When I said it was newly built, I was asked to provide a Certificate of Code Compliance (CCC). I explained that CCCs can take up to three months to be issued after the final council inspection.
Despite this, I was told they couldn’t provide a quote until the CCC was available and to call back once I had it. No flexibility, no workaround—just a hard stop. Honestly, it felt like a sign from the universe steering me away from future stress. I’ll be taking my business elsewhere.

We got a quote from AMI for house insurance, we accepted and paid it all the date before the insurance commence, and received confirmation of receiving our payment, then 2 weeks later received email to be told we havn't paid for it, we screenshot the payment to show we have paid, but received email to ask all our details such of Date of Birth... followed by to cancel our insurance as we haven't paid for it. I used to have good experience with AMI, but seems not anymore.

Got a quote for home and contents (for a house that costs $650k) at $10,000!!! Ridiculous! what a rip off! got a quote of $3500 of exact same house and provided the same details, from AA.

One star is generous
One star is generous, long standing policy holder of 30+ years and renewal comes around no notification of change to payment methods at all, paid the same way all those years and they change it to benefit their lazy butts to do less and take your rights away on your method of payment. It's their way of the high way. Won't take internet banking or credit/debt card payments unless its paid annually, only option to pay monthly is direct debt their system won't allow internet banking monthly but will if you pay annually. Make it makes sense AMI!! Do better, if I chose that method of payment fine but I chose 30+ years ago internet banking. You payment system change is for your convenience. No monthly email invoice which means less work for your business! You AMI have turned your customer service to a joke. Over priced premiums when you get quotes from other insurance providers too. Shows you are ripping your customers off with high premiums and you say you system changes are to benefit your customers so your phone rep said but I beg to differ there. No resolution and could put me through to someone with a valid resolution either! Your company has mucked our policies up in thd past we have been patient, you have mucked us around with wrong info in the past yet we stayed.... but you AMI took payment methods and the right to pay ourselves unless its direct debt monthly or pay annually!! Wake up and do better!! Look at these mostly unhappy reviews that clearly says it all!! Change or lose yet another long standing customer but after hours on calls to you and pretty much told it was your way or the highway I really dont think you really care about customer service at all.
