Barry Plant couldn’t care less about you
I lodged a formal complaint with Barry Plant head office after selling my apartment at G08/8 Bond Street, Ringwood through Barry Plant Ringwood.
I provided detailed evidence showing why I believe my property sold for significantly less than it should have. My apartment sold for $387,000. Ten days later, the neighbouring apartment—smaller, with a smaller courtyard and in poorer condition—sold for $412,000.
Based on the comparable sales and the evidence I supplied, I believe I lost at least $25,000, and potentially much more.
I provided Barry Plant head office with documentation, text messages, and a detailed explanation of my concerns. Their response was simply to ask the local agents for their version of events. The agents denied doing anything wrong, and Barry Plant closed the matter without offering any meaningful explanation, accountability, or resolution.
As a single woman in financial difficulty, the sale of my apartment was one of the most important financial transactions of my life. I trusted the Barry Plant brand to protect my interests.
Instead, I was left feeling that my concerns were dismissed and that the company had no interest in investigating the matter properly or standing behind its own brand.
If Barry Plant head office is responsible for overseeing its franchise network, then in my opinion it should also be willing to take responsibility when a client presents compelling evidence that they have suffered a substantial financial loss.
My experience left me with the impression that, once commissions are paid, customer concerns are treated as an inconvenience rather than something to be taken seriously.
I am extremely disappointed with the way Barry Plant handled my complaint and would not place my trust in the company again. 0 stars
