Poor & Unpublished Return Policy

I purchased an inexpensive ($27) pool cue package about two weeks ago and have only played 5-6 games with it. The upper portion of the cue established a rattle of some sort. Each time I hit the cue ball it was thought there was a split in the wood or something was loose, obviously a defect. I went in today to the Moses Lake store to exchange it, possibly upgrade it. I talked to the polite counter person who said they would need to call a manager to the front. While waiting I went back to see if there was another one like mine.
There was not so I decided to upgrade to a significantly higher quality set, $90. I got to the counter to finish the return and new transaction only to be informed by the manager on duty they do not take returns on pool cues because they are like baseball bats, an "impact" piece of equipment, store policy. Their return policy on their website clearly states no returns on bats and to refer to the "in-store policy" which there was a link to. That policy further defined non-returnable items, nowhere mentioning pool cues.
I explained that I was about to purchase something of far greater value with a higher profit margin, to which the manager said "I would get in trouble if I allow this return."
I asked for the next level of management's phone number, to which he provided me their corporate customer service number. I then asked for the actual store manager's name because I want to speak with someone locally to resolve this issue, which I got but they are not in today.
In the past three years I have spent about $1,000 on merchandise in this store. Seems a shame to lose a customer over an unpublished return policy and $5.00 profit when I was ready to spend far more than that. I'll let you know how it goes.

Purchased an instore weight set that…

Purchased an instore weight set that had a big instore sign saying '$299'. Because it was heavy I was paying more attention to getting it out than the purchase, and I was charge $349. I shouldn't have to remind a store to honor the price on thier big sign on the product display. Didn't notice until I got home (which is in a different town). Feels like bait and switch and I will not be shopping there again (previously purchased at least $500 a year in shoes, etc). Charge the price you advertise in store. Too many companies use 'dark practices' like this nowadays for me to give a company any credit for it being a mistake.

Deceptive email ads

I get daily emails offering great discounts and bargains, decided to get a few things today. Chose a couple of on-sale items, assuming the store-wide 10% discount would apply. Wrong. Ended up being charged the regular full price less the 10% discount which added up to more than if I'd opted for the individual items sale prices. Never will buy anything from them again.

So I was at Big 5 looking to buy some gamo pellets, the ones I wanted they had for sale for $11.99. I had just looked at the manufactures website before I went to Big-5 and saw the MSRP for that item was $7.99 so I pulled up the item online on gamo webpage and showed the store associate and his reply was we don’t price match. When I asked why they would be selling something for more than the manufactures price he said well we are a California company so our prices are like they would be in California you know more expensive. I said you are nuts and no I don’t know that because your a California company your pricing should be higher. I walked out and called the corporate headquarters. I spoke to someone in their customer service department about this and was told sorry our price is our price and if you don’t like it then go to Walmart or Amazon and buy it. I was totally floored by how caviler they are about their no price match policy. Seems like Big 5 lost track of what their competing against .

I’m subscribing Big 5’s advertising mail. I receive every week.
Good to use when I shop there with coupon. They use coupon even I forgot coupon. However today i was unable to. I forgot my phone to use it and I explained it to sales. He asked manager. The store manager came. But he did not check or try to get me discount. He was not serving good to customer. I gave up to get weekly deal. I paid about $45. After coming back home and check Big 5 weekly deals of my email. I could have $10 off when I spent $50. The store manager did not know the deal which is his laziness and not educated of business as store manager. If he told me about it. I could have spent $5 more and got $10 off deal. It’s Burien, WA. Feeling pissed.

10:30 am young clerk in black shirt

The assist manager at the Lewiston, WA was very kind and helpful for the purchases that we got today for $150. The staff usually is very nice with an exception of one young man in a black shirt. My elderly husband needed to use the restroom and was told to go to the Staples store next door. Staples I am sure did not appreciate this. I think when a customer comes in, they should be able to use the restroom. I am filing a complaint with the city and county on this because it may be illegal in Idaho. If it is not at least it is bad PR.

Solid Retailer

Always a pleasure to stop and shop at Big 5 at the Mirada near Rosecrans avenue.

The only place I buy my kayaks from. The reps are always on point and knowledgeable to address any questions.

It's surprising to see there are so few reviews here. Folks, let's give Big 5 the Big Hand they deserve!

No higher end items

Great place to get something that you need quick that is sports related. I wish they carried the higher end stuff. I needed a evo Wilson ball and I had to order. Luckily I went to Walmart of all places and they had it.

You are my review here's my review I walked into the Big 5 sporting goods tonight about 10 minutes before closing in Chico California and I was immediately stopped by what she calls herself to be management this is twice this has happened to me in the past 3 years twice now this lady stops me in my tracks tells me to get out of the store I said excuse me why and she says well you're the one we always make have to leave you always come in here and we always have to kick you up because you're always trying to steal from us I said I beg your freaking pardon I don't steal from you guys I hardly ever even come in the store what the hell are you talking about totally embarrassing me in front of the other customers I came in there to buy a dart board mind you I am cussing cuz I'm a little. At that point immediately and and she says no just get out get it no I came in here to buy a dart board you got me f***** up quote unquote that's what I said and she says really so you don't you're not her huh I said nope might want to check your cameras and I started to walk past her and I and she said what are you here for I said a dart board lady like I said I came to buy a dart board and she said was a dirt roads are over there and I said thank you and I'm going to get an apology for me and she goes that's never going to happen and I said yes it is I'm going to call corporate office on you tomorrow and I was like no I don't need to get out I'm not the one doing anything wrong you need to stop it and look at your cameras show me the pictures of this lady that's her and she's like I don't have to do that get out or I'm calling the cops and then you need to call him and she immediately starts running over there I'm not going to deal with your loser ass I said excuse me excuse me did you just really really b**** really yes I did say b**** cuz she just called me a loser ass and she's trying to kick him out of the store but I have been absolutely nothing f****** wrong and she refuses to show the video camera on what broad this supposedly I am this person is ripping her off but she she can't show it go look at the camera and come out and apologize to me face to face like an adult should do in her wrongdoing that's twice as people have done that to me twice I don't know what woman's running around that looks like me ripping people off but she really need to take another look at that camera because it ain't me and I will be having my attorney's contact Big 5 because it is on camera it is recorded.

Excellent experience at Phoenix Big 5

I made several purchases from Big 5 Sporting Goods on Cactus Road in Phoenix, AZ recently. The rep on the floor, Paul, was especially friendly and helpful. In addition to offering suggestions, he also went in the back to find additional stock several times. The other staff that I interacted with were also very helpful and courteous. I would rate this experience with Big 5 as excellent.

I went to the Sonora

I went to the Sonora, CA store on 6-1-2021 and for the 1st time since the very beginning of the Covid thing they now ask me to wear a mask or I cannot come into that store. Why after over a year would they begin this when they never have at all from the beginning. I have been going there every month and buying many things since the 1970's and now my relationship with this pathetic corporation has ended!

if i could put zero stars i would!! I cancelled an order that i didn't get a receipt for to begin with, they charged me twice and the money was took out of my bank account. I called them and they said i was never charged and would notify my bank. My bank was never called, this store tried to steal my money.

Corporate have no saying on manager decision

I went to big 5 to purchase a treadmill on sep 23 2020 it's a proform 505 cst. I asked if I have any problems with it can I return they just told me you have 30 days with receipt. I called oct 15 to ask if I can bring it in to return the only thing is I threw away the box thinking it was working. The manager told me yes just as long as I untake the treadmill and have the original receipt then she told me to hold so she can ask someone else to be sure then they changed their minds and told me no. I called corporate to ask what is company policy is because on website it also state just as long as you have original receipt corporate called the store then called me back to find out they have no saying over store manager decision. Do not recommend big 5 since they don't honor their word.

Bought a lot of fishing tackle and some camping supplies here. My only complaint is the lack of options - you're still better off visiting a Bass Pro or Turner's here in Southern California for a greater selection, but their prices are excellent.

This happened yesterday 4/20/20 at the Redding store.

So My Wife & I just came out of the Yolla Bollies (mountains) & We are going fishing in the morning with the Grandkids so We stopped at big five in Redding on Hilltop to get some size 18 treble hooks so I could tie up the poles for the Grandkids tonight. I was greeted well asked at the front door if I had a mask to put on My face. If not I couldn't come in. I asked Malia if that is a law now. She told Me that was their policy now. Nothing posted on the doors that I saw or she pointed out. I then asked Malia if She could go get the hooks for Me & I would pay for them. She rudely told Me no (stepped right in front of My face mind You. I said what are You going to do arest Me for not having a mask? She stepped right in front of Me & told Me she could't let Me in. I was wearing a hat so I took it off & covered My face with My hat & she said no You must have a mask! Then two kids walked into the store with sweet shirts on that they turned around & tied the hood up on their face. I happened to have a sweet shirt on Myself so I said Is it ok to do the same & she told Me no I had to Leave. I asked her what her name was & she told Me. Then I asked for her manager she said I would get him. So talib the manager comes around the corner & asked Me what the problem was. I told him his worker Malia was very rude to Me & then right away he told Me we have the right not to sell to customers & told Me without even asking Me what happened that they refuse to sale to Me & I had to leave. Meanwhile those Kids were in their shopping or something with just their hoodies on like I wanted to do after I saw malia politely said hi to them & let them in. I respect the fact they are trying to protect their Employees & their Customers but nobody else in our City is forced to wear masks & malia & talib could've gone about it a whole different way. I am 61 years old & I have never been treated so rudely anywhere. I have bee in sales since I started working at 16. I have been shopping at big 5 since they opened in Orange County in My neighborhood & here in Redding since I moved here 12 Years ago. Talib never let Me tell him my side of this story he was rude & very unprofessional from the time I met him. I will never step inside a big 5 again in My Life. I hope Sportsman's Warehouse puts them out of Business! I will do everything in My power to help them do that. I have been fishing & hunting all My Life & I respect everybody & everything. Never have I killed anything I can't eat & I respect all the laws My whole Life. I have never written a post on google or yelp in My Life. But this Young Lady & Her Manager disrespected more than anyone ever has in My 61 Years

Big 5= Great Value

Big 5 can best be described as "great value". For those who dont know, Big 5 sells sporting equipment. The reason I say great value is because most of their product are last year's models. Now its not used or anything, when a new model of shoe or tent or snowboard comes out most companies stock that. Big 5 gets the back stock of the unsold or leftover merch. The great part is that your getting brand new items at a highly reduced cost. They run sales all the time where you can get great items at thrift shop prices. They have a great return/exchange policy and the customer service at every store I've been to is very good. So if you don't care about "keeping up with the Jones" then this is the best place to shop for spring goods. My last purchase was an $800 all weather Stiga Ping Pong table that I paid $149 for. I highly recommend Big 5 for your outdoor needs.
