Wrong item sent, unnoticed at first. 4 months later, big on electricals have no interest.

In September I purchased the Meaco Arete 2 dehumidifier. Last month I realised I had been sent the Meaco Arete 1 dehumidifier instead. An older version, priced lower.

So in fairness, I was at fault, having not noticed the mistake on delivery. However I hadn’t extensively researched the differences in specs of the two dehumidifier’s and they do look very similar.

On noticing last month, I brought this to big on electricals attention immediately. I acknowledged my mistake, but thought we could come to a sensible resolution.

I felt a refund of the difference in prices at the time would be fair. I wasn’t looking for them to send the newer version (the one I paid for) as that seemed unreasonable given the time that’s passed and that I’ve been using the Arete one since delivery.

The response I’ve received from big on electricals however is one of indifference.

No acknowledgment that they also made a mistake, no offer to rectify and no interest in investigating how the wrong item was sent. They’ve just said it’s outside any time frame for them to have to do anything legally.

I feel it’s a very disappointing response.

We weren’t talking a huge difference in cost here, but the refund would have been the right thing to do.

Whilst I understand it’s probably outside any legal time frame that they have to do anything, it’s a disappointing display of customer service all the same.

Thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed review. I completely understand why you’re frustrated, and I’m genuinely sorry for how disappointing this feels from your side. If we were within the normal time frame for these things, we would absolutely investigate the dispatch and verify whether the wrong model was sent in error.

The difficulty here is the length of time that has passed since delivery. Because several months have gone by, we’re no longer able to confirm what was sent at the time, and without that verification we can’t take action on a price difference or replacement. This isn’t a lack of interest, and it’s certainly not indifference — it’s simply that we don’t have any way to trace or validate the original dispatch now.

I appreciate the way you approached this and the fairness in your request, and I’m sorry we weren’t able to find the resolution you were hoping for. Your feedback has been taken on board, and we’ll use it to review how we handle similar situations in the future.

Although they did not complete my order and had no items in stock to re send, they offered a full refund.

Competitively priced

Item (bathroom ceiling extractor fan) purchased as was competitively priced. Arrived in a battered insecure box, with screws missing. Item itself was useable so i was able to install it. Fan is noisier than expected from the sales description so that is disappointing. otherwise seems to work ok, 'though not as powerful as the 8 year old one it's replacing.
