Very disappointing experience as an authorised installer

We have fitted numerous CAN-PHANTOM systems for customers and had authorised access to their installer resources and technical Wiki.

We invested £1,235 in training, including additional trainer training, so we made a considerable investment into working with the product and following their installer requirements.

While in the middle of a customer installation, I asked a technical question in the installer WhatsApp group, as I had done previously when technical assistance was required.

During the conversation, I was questioned about the technician working with me. To be clear, I was personally at the job, and CAN-PHANTOM themselves confirmed during the conversation that I was an authorised installer.

There appeared to potentially be an administrative issue regarding my technician’s authorisation paperwork. However, his assessments, paperwork and installation videos had already been submitted. If something was missing or hadn’t been processed correctly, I would have been more than happy to resolve it.

What I cannot understand is why a potential paperwork issue concerning another technician resulted in my own installer access being removed when I was the authorised installer and was physically present at the installation.

During that same conversation, my access to the CAN-PHANTOM technical Wiki was removed without any prior warning or communication that this was about to happen.

I discovered this while we were still working on the customer’s vehicle and actively diagnosing the vehicle’s wiring, when I attempted to access the technical information required to continue the job.

This wasn’t simply access to a discussion forum. The Wiki contained the relevant vehicle-specific installation information and files/software required for the system. Removing that access without warning during an active installation could have left us in a very difficult position with a customer’s vehicle already being worked on.

If there was a mistake with my technician’s paperwork, contact me and I’ll rectify it. That’s completely reasonable. But I was authorised, I was physically at the job, and it was my technical access that was removed mid-installation.

After paying £1,235 for training, carrying out numerous installations and investing in offering the product through our business, I don’t consider that an appropriate way to deal with an authorised installer or their customer’s vehicle.

To be clear, this review is not intended to debate the effectiveness of the immobiliser itself. It concerns our experience of installer support and the decision to remove an authorised installer’s access to technical resources without warning while we were in the middle of a customer installation and actively diagnosing the vehicle’s wiring.

We did eventually get the CAN-PHANTOM system working. However, it subsequently stopped working again. At that point, with our access to the relevant technical resources having been removed, we were unable to continue diagnosing the issue through the normal installer resources.

Fortunately, we had another manufacturer’s immobiliser with us. We installed that instead, got the vehicle working correctly and were able to return it to the customer.

This experience was ultimately the final factor in our decision to stop offering CAN-PHANTOM to new customers.

For a vehicle-security product, installers need reliable technical support and confidence that they’ll continue to have access to the information necessary to safely complete work on customers’ vehicles.

Given the circumstances, having another manufacturer’s immobiliser sitting in the van turned out to be rather fortunate.

Van is unusable and kills my battery while using this system. Will be uploading video with full details to my youtube channel with 500k subs soon. Avoid this immobiliser.

We are primarily a detailing company and decided to offer vehicle security. We decided to offer Can-Phantom and are so glad we did as the support from the installer network and members of staff has been great.

We have access to a comprehensive database for installation on most vehicles and the product works great. We have it installed on our own vehicle and it has already saved us from keyless theft once.

Been an installer pretty much from the beginning and love the product especially the new cp24 init and Bluetooth app. Staff have evolved over time and knowledge has improved massively. Onwards and upwards.

Software is spot on, any issues or glitches are sorted straight away normally from the help of Meg or Harry! Without these 2 it would be a different story!

Installs are nice and simple, safe, secure and devices are well made and we hardly ever have to revisit a job unlike other immobilisers we have installed.
