Great experience!

Given that the global car rental industry is one in which, too often, the scratch that you "caused" has been chosen before you even pick up the car, I think it is important to champion those companies that do things properly. Carwavemadeira is one such company. From the friendly greeting, to the free online tourist guide to the island, the quality of the car, the efficient drop-off at the airport and the swift return of the deposit, Carlos provided an excellent service!

Eine informative Beratung zu den schönen Ausflugszielen mit Zugabe einer Karte mit entsprechenden Routen! Top!
Und ein sehr leistungsstarkes Auto für die Berge, sowie technisch modern ausgestattet! So lassen sich auf dem Bildschirm im Auto alle selbst bei google ausgesuchten Ziele bestens erreichen! Bei carwave werden wir immer wieder buchen! Freundlich und serviceorientiert! Wir konnten per WhatsApp kommunizieren und den Autoschlüssel an unserer Hotelrezeption hinterlegen- der wurde dort am nächsten Morgen abgeholt! Super! Das alles hat den etwas höheren Mietpreis gerechtfertigt.

Just about perfect in every respect

We had pre-booked a hire car through another company which turned out to be a big mistake resulting in us rejecting the contract. Since Carwavemaderia were close by, we approached them as an alternative.

The result was a friendly helpful service, a suitable car in good condition and a very professional approach with all information and documentation being provided electronically all at a competitive price. All greatly appreciated.

Wouldn't bother going anywhere else if we return to Madeira and very happy to recommend.

Amazing service! Super easy pick-up and drop-off right at the airport doors — couldn’t be more convenient. Everything was explained really clearly, customer service was so quick and responsive to any questions. Everyone was super friendly and helpful - last staff wave after drop-off just warmed our hearts.

Very nice new car and helpful staff

I rented a car for 2 days and got a really nice, well-working, brand new Mitsubishi Colt with automatic air conditioning and Apple CarPlay connectivity.
The staff was really nice and helpful - they gave us a map with some attractions listed in both printed and electronic versions.
I can definitely recommend them!

Carwave turned my vacation into nightmare!!!

Addendum: Carwave's response - one-sided, brazen and unlawful

The esteemed company Carwave has responded to my review - with an answer that is so one-sided that it can hardly be surpassed in impudence. I won't leave it at that, because Carwave has gone wrong twice:

1. greed for money instead of honesty: Carwave brazenly claims to have “only” charged me €250. What they deliberately conceal is the small fact that they initially charged me a whopping €385! (Proof: attached picture, with Carwave's phone number made unrecognizable - because unlike some people, I take data protection and compliance with the law seriously). Only after an embarrassing street theater, in which two Carwave employees argued with me like tinkers, they slipped down to 250 €. But wait, it gets better: I spent a total of €575.98 for two days of rental car and one (!) defective tire. Of course, I was not reimbursed for three further days when I no longer had the car. With a daily rate of €65.19, this means that I paid a whopping €445.59 for a single broken tire. Respect, Carwave, that's pure usury!

2. data protection? A foreign word for Carwave: Because in the reply to my post under the pseudonym “Heinz”, Carwave published my full real name in their reply - and even before the pseudonym! This is not only a blatant violation of their own privacy policy, but also of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Section 126a of the German Criminal Code (StGB). Violations of the law? Apparently a trivial offense for Carwave. I, on the other hand, find something like this not only unprofessional, but downright scandalous. A complaint is more than obvious here.
Carwave, that was a blow to your own knee - and a lesson in how not to treat customers.

1. Version:Carwave turned my vacation into a shameless rip-off – hats off to the masters of the tourist trap! I reserved a vehicle in a specific category, but – surprise, surprise – it wasn’t available. Instead, they forced an expensive upgrade on me, even though everyone knows a free upgrade is standard when the booked category isn’t available. A rental contract? Nope. Clear info about the insurance? Of course not.

On the second day, the next blow: a tire puncture, and Carwave had the audacity to demand 385€ for a single damaged tire! Their excuse that another tire needed replacing too was so absurd it was almost funny – if it weren’t so infuriating. This blatant scam made me so furious that I terminated the rental agreement on the spot. Carwave didn’t just destroy my trust; they ruined my entire vacation. Stay far away from this place unless you want to throw your money out the window!

Thank you for your feedback. We're genuinely sorry to hear that your experience didn’t meet your expectations.

However, we would like to clarify several important points to ensure the facts are accurately represented:

Firstly, the damage was not limited to a simple puncture. Upon inspection, it was confirmed that one tire had been slashed and the wheel itself was scratched. The car you rented was only two months old, fitted with factory-new tires. For safety and legal reasons, and in line with industry standards, both tires on the same axle must be replaced - it is not permitted to drive with a used and a new tire on the same axle. You also attempted to use the tire repair kit, but the damage was beyond repairable.

We want to emphasize that you were charged €250, not €385 as you claim. This amount covers the cost of two new tires and reflects a fair and proportionate charge. Please find attached photos as proof of the damage and the tire condition.

Regarding the vehicle upgrade: the category you originally booked was unfortunately unavailable at the time of your arrival. As a courtesy, we offered you a brand-new 2025 model, with double the horsepower, for only €37 extra. You accepted the offer without hesitation, and given the enhanced value and performance of the vehicle, this was a transparent and generous solution.

As for your statement regarding the rental agreement not being provided: this is factually incorrect. The agreement was given to you at the time of pickup and also sent to you via email. All relevant insurance information was clearly explained at pickup and is also publicly available on our website. At no point did you request clarification, and no objections were raised during the rental period or vehicle return. Unfortunately, your concerns were only voiced after the fact.

We always aim for fairness, professionalism, and transparency in all our operations. In this case, we acted fully within industry norms and legal requirements, and we stand by the way this situation was handled.

Excelent customer experience

I had a great experience with this car rental! The contact and customer service were excellent – very friendly and helpful. The rental conditions were very favorable, and even though I booked the car just one day in advance, everything was smooth and the car was ready without any issues. As a bonus, I received some really useful tips about local tourist attractions. Highly recommended!
