I joined Community in October 2025. I was accompanied by Matt to a meeting with management. He was very professional, communicated well with me prior to the meeting, reassured me during the meeting and was extremely knowledgeable in employment law.
If you are not a member and considering, please join as soon as possible. We hope that our managers understand employment law but more often than not they simply don't.
Don't put yourself in a position of fighting your employer alone, make sure you have union representation on your side. You absolutely will not regret it.

I joined Community for their values, and have to say that I couldn't be more glad to be with them. I recently had a situation I needed help with, and the support I was given went more than above and beyond even though I joined only 6 months ago. Sam Williams deserves the shout-out especially for being committed and providing clear and timely communication. He spotted inconsistencies I missed completely. The outcome we fought for was confirmed today and I don't think this would've happened without his help.
It's inspiring because this makes me want to continue to fight for a better work life not just for me but for colleagues like me who don't get the support we really need at work. I will look into more ways to engage within the union, because seeing the possibility of change firsthand really impressed me.

I recently had a serious disciplinary hearing with my employer. I was ably represented by Richard Holmes my area representative and reminded me of the value of Union representation. I would recommend that if you’re seeking a Union to join then Community would be a good choice as they are open to all .

I joined Community Union hoping to receive advice and support if any issues arose with my job. However, after paying membership fees for around a year and a half, I was made redundant while on maternity leave. I contacted Community immediately and requested several call backs, but unfortunately none were returned.
The response I received was by email and mainly contained information that appeared to be taken directly from the government website. While I appreciate being pointed to relevant resources, I had expected more personalised advice and support given the circumstances. The communication also felt quite impersonal, and responses were slow, which made it difficult to keep up with the timeline set by my former employer.
It also became clear during the process that there was very little the union could actually do to assist in my situation. Overall, the support I received did not meet my expectations, and in the end I felt I had to deal with the situation on my own. Based on my experience, it may be worth considering other forms of protection, such as unemployment insurance instead of union membership.

I’m very glad I joined Community Union because they helped me a lot from the very first moment I had problems with the company I work for. There are many unions out there, but Community really stood out to me because, unlike some others, they sent a representative to support me in person whenever I needed help with my case.
Later on, my case became more complicated, and Fahima became my solicitor. She helped me a lot, and all the legal documents went through her. If you don’t have legal knowledge, having someone experienced handling the legal side of things can be extremely helpful.
For me, being part of a union made a real difference.

I highly recommend this community union. In particular, I would like to give special thanks to Letitia McCalla , who supported me throughout my redundancy process. She attended every meeting with me and always offered advice and guidance. Thanks to her support, the whole process was much less stressful. I am very grateful for her help.

If you are considering joining for preventative advice or early support, don’t. Save your money. Community Union is perfectly happy to take your membership fee, but when you actually ask for guidance, you may find yourself met with rigid box-ticking and zero common sense.
I joined because I was planning to ask for a pay rise and wanted some professional advice on how best to approach the conversation. I had not opened a dispute, I was not in a grievance process, and I have never had any kind of formal issue at work. I simply wanted guidance.
I was told they could not help me because the reasons I was citing for a pay rise pre-dated my membership. Of course they did - that is rather the point of asking for one.
Apparently, you are only eligible for support if your workplace concerns conveniently begin after you start paying your subscription. The idea that someone might join a union proactively, before a situation escalates, seems entirely lost on them.
A thoroughly disappointing and frankly pointless experience. Don’t bother with these time wasters.

Katie and Community Union helped me while fighting and Appeal upheld by my works. I am grateful to Katie especially for seeing and believing me. Not many unions I have experienced, have not helped me in the way Katie and Community have. I am truly grateful for the support they have provided me with and have been careful and professional with regards to my Mental Health and health issues exasperated by my work. My union rep is Deena Doyle. It is safe to say that without her, I would no longer be in the job I’m in. Community have supported me when I had no one to turn to and Deena has ALWAYS been on hand to lend support in any way she can.
