After reading these reviews I nearly cancelled my appointment at D. Whites and went elsewhere.
I am so glad I didn’t.
My boy was seen immediately, he had a foreign body in his body and a very bad infection.
Rachel was who looked after Paolo. She was informative, knowledgable; helpful and empathetic.
We discussed what had already been done to Paolo to find this foreign body (he’d already had two ops since July) and what our options were moving forward. we decided to start with an ultrasound and go to a CT/surgery if needed.
I was told what time he was booked in and when I would get an update. I was informed every step of the way.
There was no upsell and options were given and it was my decision. I didn’t feel like they wanted to use all my insurance money up.
We put together a plan and I got a call around 3pm to say they found a seed! I was so pleased. I collected him at 6pm and he was fully discharged with a care hand over, antibiotics, painkillers, bandages etc.
I couldn’t thank Rachel and her team enough.
The staff on arrival were friendly and helpful, and I was seen quickly.
I would recommend D. whites 100%.
Just got to keep my fingers and toes crossed that there is no more left in him.

You won’t be visiting this place unless there is a serious problem with your pet. Something none of the staff seem to care about though. You’ll enter this multi million pound building with the feeling of hope as soothing spa music plays through their sound system. My older dog was having seizures so we were referred to dwr as the closest place to us. The initial consultation was everything we could’ve asked for, seemed very professional with the tests done, comforting nature of staff and what not. This soon changes when they take your dog away for tests and ask for the deposit. Reception staff with zero remorse towards your situation, it’s all about getting the money. I get it in a way, it’s a business…I’ll never know why places like this will employ the coldest faced people of reception though. We left our dog with them for an MRI for a suspected brain tumour given he was an 11 year old French bulldog. We never left Cambridge the whole day. We were told we would get a phone call every step of the way, sedation, going in for the mri and results. We received nothing until our boy was done with his MRI done 5 hours after we left him. The news was not good news and were told to come back and collect him as we were still in the area. The neurologist met us to tell us the news, not before asking if we would like to see a video of our boy howling in the cage they kept him in while he woke up. She had taken personal videos on her phone of this. We are told for the price we paid….topping £3k we would have support care for 6 months and with that we left. We had episodes with our dog which were not normal so would call for support, I sent videos to reception and got a call back from the neurologist 2 weeks later. They had never received the videos I sent. Another few months and our dog started having seizures again after 3 months without any. We called to discuss options but did not get a call back for over a week. We had a phonecall and were told to up the medication and if he has another one to give him “x” amount of the medication and asked for all the information to be sent in an email as everything we had discussed had been a lot, so wanted it in writing to make sure we were caring for our boy as much as we could. We did not receive an email, we received no further contact from them. Even after our boy passed away a month later, nothing. They don’t really care, they just know owners are gonna be distraught and pay whatever they tell you.
Edit - you have my contact information, if you’d like to discuss it further. Shouldn’t be on me to contact you

I would like to thank the clinic and the vets for saving my dogs- Kara, life. We arrived with extremely low red blood cells count and severe anemia. Only because I took her to you and the blood transfusion you did on her she is still alive. I would like to say to anyone who is reading the reviews on here the following. Statistically we are most likely to die in hospitals. That doesn't mean we should not go to a hospital when we need it. Same applies to vet practices. A veterinary practice is a business and it is there to make a profit. How else will we be able to receive the services of competent vets and modern equipment? I did refuse additional and expensive tests just because I did not believe finding a terminal illness would help and continued treatment for what we had information for.

We cannot thank the entire team at DWR enough for the exceptional care, expertise, and compassion shown to our beloved Labrador, Rosey.
When she was referred to you, she was critically unwell, we were terrified we might lose her. From the moment we arrived, the professionalism, warmth, and clarity with which you approached her case gave us a lifeline of hope.
Every step, from the CT scans, liver biopsy, and heart investigations, to the emergency drainage and careful diagnosis, was handled with extraordinary skill and sensitivity. The decision to hospitalise her twice, the daily monitoring, the echocardiograms, the updates and reassurance… all of it gave Rosey the very best chance to come home.
You didn’t just treat her, you gave her the calm, expert care she needed when she was at her most vulnerable. You also treated us with empathy and honesty through an incredibly emotional and uncertain time.
Thanks to you, she’s now home, healing, and under a carefully managed plan. We’re in no doubt that your care saved her life.
With heartfelt thanks,
Georgie & Rob McIntyre (and Rosey 🐾)

my dog had over ninety days of medication given without any thought of cost or any drug counts done on a very poorly dog with numerous visits
my 12k insurance per year was used up by d whites referrals as fast as possible with unnecessary scans and over medication every year.
this is no longer d whites once caring practice but a money hungry pedigree pet food subsidiary
We lost our little girl because you chose money over her little life.
Our poorly cat was referred to DWR for a number of issues. She did sadly pass away but the treatment she received from everyone at DWR was exceptional. Full explanations of her treatment were always given. We were never rushed and all our questions were answered. Everyone was very kind and compassionate whether it was a vet, a nurse or one of those on reception. We received a number of follow up phone calls including to sympathise when our cat had passed. We even received a sympathy card from the surgeon. Special thanks must go to Simona, Rachel, Katie (in ICU) and those on reception.

My dog required urgent emergency treatment and was referred to DW by VetsNow due to dangerously high liver enzymes and rapidly worsening symptoms. He was dehydrated, lethargic, vomiting, and clearly in distress. This was a critical situation.
Despite the urgency, DW said, “We will let you know in 2 hours” — and ultimately took over 2.5 hours to respond, only to say they couldn’t take him. This delay was unacceptable. In that time, his condition deteriorated significantly, and had we received a simple yes or no straight away, we could have pursued alternative emergency care without losing valuable time.
By the time we got him to Granta Veterinary Specialists, he was diagnosed with:
• Severe acute pancreatitis
• Pancreatic enzyme levels at 1379 (over three times the critical threshold)
• ALP liver enzyme levels over 2000
• And a painfully swollen abdomen requiring immediate hospitalisation, IV fluids, antiemetics, and pain relief
Thanks to Granta’s quick and compassionate response, he is now recovering — but DW’s lack of urgency and delayed communication in an emergency situation could have had tragic consequences.
For a specialist facility that advertises emergency care, the absence of timely triage and decision-making is deeply concerning. In emergencies, minutes matter — and I hope this feedback prompts a serious review of your intake and communication protocols.
We were referred to DWR by our vets, when one of our elder cats become suddenly unwell.
We were seen within a few hours of referral (most of that time was us driving there!), and our cat was diagnosed over the weekend.
We've since been put under the care of Charlie in Oncology, who has been undoubtedly excellent explaining every step of the process, always willing to explain any question we have. We can't praise Charlie enough in words, but we are grateful to have our cat Kitty under his care.

Lost my beautiful girl a year ago & I was just having a look to see if the reviews had improved over the last year. I submitted my review a few months back but looking again today, I have noticed that it is very rare that Whites have responded to any of the reviews!!! When I pointed out to them during my dispute that their Trustpilot reviews were not very favourable, they responded that the Google ones were ok!! Says it all really!
Before I go on, a formal complaint has already been submitted.
People need to be made aware of the practices of this company before deciding to take their pets to DWR.
I wish I had the foresight to read these reviews before I subjected my dog to DWR. I would have asked more questions and made myself clearer. Or I would have changed my mind and gone somewhere else.
My dog was rushed to the vet at midnight and then referred to DWR the following day.
I really don't know where to start?!
I trusted this company to care for my dog, but she left there with faeces caked on her leg and a bill that certainly didn't reflect the care she received.
I was basically lied to. Not just with the care but with the bill as well.
My dog had to be put down the day after coming from DWR, which, reading some of the reviews, seems to be happening quite a lot!
Yes, my dog was poorly and was told she had cancer. Not that I had seen any results to verify this.
Going by the itemised receipt I was given, it certainly looks as if they had heavily sedated her, and I wasn't made aware either. I wasn't made aware of many things, like the cost of items. I was even charged for a pair of rubber gloves at an extortionate markup, amongst other items, but you expect some of that; they're running a business. And that's exactly what it is; it's not caring. There is no compassion; they give lip service, but there's no care involved. Even their staff will state that and have in their own reviews. It's all about money at the end of the day!
I've read responses from DWR, stating how transparent they are. That's a bare-faced lie. I read their website to try and get some information whilst I was waiting to be seen, and it stated £450 for an emergency consultation. I was charged £500. When I paid my bill, I was told there was nothing else to pay, I checked 3 times. Was she sure, as I didn't want to be billed further? However, within half an hour of leaving, I get a text demanding another £50; I wasn't told why.
It wasn't until my insurance paid out and they took this £50 from the difference before they paid me that they finally added this sum to my bill, albeit didnt explain 'what' is was, It was never on my previous bill. I still have no idea what it is and will only know when they respond to my complaint. As far as I am concerned, DWR, at this present time, has stolen £50 from me. So, for DWR to state they are transparent is a lie. Maybe they need to pay someone to update their website and to let people know that if you're there as an emergency, you won't get a welcome pack until after your pet has been admitted. And to also change the amounts that they now charge!
They sent a demanding email just as I was putting my dog to sleep, despite my response to them the day before with regard to the added fee.
The amount of sedative drugs my little dog was given, I'm surprised I had one last day with her.
Please, for the sake of your pet, get as much info about a veterinary hospital as you can and get as many recommendations as you can, ask as many question as you can, if you dont understand something get them to fully explain it, they are taking your money at the end of the day, the least they can do is answer questions truthfully, give you the time to think and show some compassion. Because DWR seems to be lacking all 3.
They want you to settle your bill on the day; however, when they owe you money, you have to wait up to 5 working days. Why they can't use a bank transfer system is beyond me. And before they respond with 'they have to use the card you paid them with,' that isn't true, and they are aware of that.
Yet another example of cash before care. I have instructed my vet not to refer me to these con men again. Explain why they prescribed worming granules for a 150 kg dog when my dog is 60 kg
Please please do not trust your fur baby’s to these folk my child was fine she had a sore belly she was given to much sedative and she never recovered I tried to take her to another vet but it was to far gon and to much damage was dun she even had a huge lump on her arm what was not there before it’s just about money to this company and I wish I had check the reviews before going in so anyone reading this find a better place these guys are murders
DWR are money grabbers and take advantage when people are most vulnerable when their pets are ill. A fixed price package was suddenly not a fixed price and was over £500 more on top of the original £5000.
They are certainly not transparent in their charges despite what they say in their customer charter. They mislead me about the costs, got me to sign to say they could go up another £500 in case there were issues during the operation. There were no issues but the fixed price became the maximum of what I had signed for in case of emergency. Do not fall in to this scam!
They have been rude, discourteous and have caused stress and further hardship. I have tried to resolve this with them but they are not interested. There is a big money making machine behind this face who are not interested in truth and honesty.
I wish I had seen the other reviews before I had travelled over 3 hours to use
Update 25/9/25 been to arbitration and they accept no responsibility and want full payment or court. Not a pleasant or professional business by anyone’s standard. AVOID AVOID AVOID.

From start to finish the process has been easy and supportive. It was made clear what i was expected to pay upfront and my insurance cover. My dog was well looked after and i felt nothing but passion from the Hannah ( consulting vet) who i trusted. I was given the options i had- and i made the final decision of the next steps. The Website makes it clear the initial consultation fee- and i was happy to pay that- but i did go through insurance due to the investigatory tests planned.
On going support has been very much appreciated. All the notes were emailed to myself and my local vet. I was contacted when they said they would call. I can’t fault the service or the amazing hospital.
Referred to DWR by local vet after our 8 year old Border Collie was left paralysed due to suffering seizures. DWR kept her 4 days, day 3 told us she could had made significant improvement, could walk with light assistance and was ready to be discharged. We found on getting her home that she was still paralysed and first thing the following morning made the painful decision to have her put to sleep They charged our insurance company to the policy limit of several thousand pounds and me a further four figure sum. Will never go near them again, horrible experience, beware, only interested in the money.
Was referred as an emergency last April with suspected IVDD with my Frenchie.
The waiting and booking in procedure was manic and there were just too many animals crammed into their horrible tent!
I the had to bring her back the next day for a GA and MRI scan.
I had to chase and chase them as they didnt keep me update at all.
Eventually when they managed to find the time, I was advised thankfully no IVDD however they felt the issue was hip dysplasia and that they would recommend another GA and X-ray.
I was relieved that no IVDD however I was not impressed that they didn't bother to call me to ask permission to do the X-ray considering I already have an at risk dog for GA's and it would have been best for the dog to not have to be knocked out again. Especially, when they clearly have the very best equipment.
Another thing to note is, you're paying extortionate prices for non-expert vets. They are there training and are generally interns.....our money goes on their training and our animals are their guinea pigs!!
I would never set foot in there again as the service, the lack of concern, the lack of any compassion and there was certainly no thought for the welfare of my dog having to be knocked out again when they could have asked me and got it down at the same time!!!
She was insured and so I was lucky - but bear in mind that MRI cost £3600.
Weirdly the top cost I was quoted!!
Oh, they did sling in a few painkillers too. Bargain!!!!
There are other referrals vets out there - do your homework as this is not the placed it used be and is owned by a huge conglomerate and are only there for money!
Having read all these reviews I have realised that most of the poor reviews are grounded in financial reasons . I admit that costs here are high but this is true of all large referrals. All I can comment on is the standard of care .I cannot fault the level of care and expertise shown by all departments and vets dealing with my dogs . I have dealt with Rachel in soft tissue and Charlie in oncology and their level of expertise care and compassion is outstanding. I have also dealt with numerous vets in the medicine department who are similarly caring . Yes it has been expensive but this is not the fault of the vets and they have gone out of their way to explain and support with this . All vets are expensive but not all vets are as skilled and compassionate . Yes I am a lot poorer but my dogs have received amazing treatment and I know that they have had the best love and care . I cannot recommend these vets enough .
Firstly Ashley, the lady who treated our poodle for BAD teeth (Dentistry department) was AMAZING, she was very understanding & caring. She explained everything to us. She told us he was in a very serious condition and was able to start his treatment today as he needed to go on a drip over night first. It was very frightening as it was a big operation but it was very needed to be done. Again Ashley was extremely nice and helped us feel better, FANTASTIC news the operation was a big success😊 He had all but 1 tooth removed for reasons which were explained to us afterwards, we agreed to it all.we then had a follow up appointment 5 days after and got told he is doing VERY WELL. I can not tell you how happy we were with Ashley doing the operation our dog means everything to us. So again Thank you Ashley.
But on a another note l was a bit unhappy having to pay for another consultation as my dog had already been to a veterinary hospital and had lots of tests done and got all his results which all cost a lot already, so l felt having to pay for another consultation (a lot more expensive)was just away the company was making money, do you not trust other veterinary hospitals?
