Slowly being priced out
Been with Drake for years, but the pricing continues to rise and now we have all these paid features being shoved down our throats. I LOVE the software, but this year it would just close the program randomly which sometimes resulted in loss of data entry. That's a huge negative for me.

Disappointed long time user switching software.
We have used Drake since 2013. Ever since Drake was sold a few years back, the problems with the software have increased. Starting a couple of years ago, the software would just stop and disappear from your screen without warning. It has gotten increasingly worse, with this year being the worst. Also, support told us that they will not help with any program issues if you do not use Rightworks (I think), their cloud provider partner. This is insane! And over the last few years, the flow from federal to state returns have gotten worse. This year, we had to do a lot of overrides to get our home state of Arkansas to work correctly. This was a time waster. I loved working on
Drake, but as their product has become increasingly problematic, we will be switching software.

Drake was not ready for the filing season
After using Drake Software for the past 20+ years, the 2025 tax filing season was the worst ever. Customer support was basically non-existent as they would not listen to the issue and wasted more time than benefit. Drake was clearly not ready for the current filing season as we were not able to file many Partnership or Corporate returns until March due to problems with the State of Oklahoma returns. No communication from Drake on the issues

Our tax office has used DrakeSoftware since the 1990s. They have improved each year, so years better than others, but in the end, they get the job done! We appreciate their customer service (i.e. availability, knowledge, accessibility).

I have used Drake since the 1980s Since the buyout the price is jumping substantially, While they are adding features - many are not the priority types services that make a difference in practice. And the customer service has dropped DRASTICALLY Some issues took 2 weeks to resolve last year and only because I had enough historical knowledge of how the basic program worked, was I able to resolve the issue. With support still giving feedback it could not be done.

Drake has become very expensive and the customer service not as good as before. tech support really gotten bad, before one person would answer right away now it takes you to series of questions before someone can help you. not as good as before. I've got Drake since 2007. I am considering changing to other options after this year.

Great Software - Cloud Went Down Often
The software works great. A Few minor issues were the cloud would go down and you could not access the software. Longer wait times to get technical assistance. Integration with Adobe PDF had issues. Tax payment and estimated tax vouchers when viewed in PDF looks fine, but if you save and then print they come out as garbage. Instead you need to print them and then scan them and then replace them in your PDF copy of the returns.

90% OF THE TIME I GET KNOWLEDGABLE HELP. THERE'S BEEN A FEW AGENTS WHO DON'T KNOW HOW TO HELP. SOMETIMES TELL ME INCORRECT INFORMATION. I COULDN'T BE SPECIFIC ON DATES OF EXPERIENCES. THERE'S BEEN AT LEAST 3 TIMES DURING THE TAX SEASON.

Been with Drake since 1996, and this year program 2025 sucked. Issues was it didn't bring forward 2024 data accurately. Drake has gone down hill since Drake sold the company. Cinven and Taxwell don't gave a crap about Drake or Drake users.

Buyout? What buyout? Novbody told ME.
In reading some other reviews, I discovered, for the first time, that Drake had been bought out. I'm not sure whether the buyout is bad news, or not being informed about it is. I have used the software for about 25 years, and hated it at first. Actually changed to Tax-Wise in about 2006, prior to their being bought out by CCH - of whatever name THEY go by now. I changed back to Drake a couple of years later, when TW become cost prohibitive, and have stuck with Drake ever since. Now I know it too well to switch again, and it's still the most reasonably priced pro tax software around. I agree with most others that phone support was very good most of the year. And frankly I didn't notice a fall off in quality the last two years, I think mainly because I didn't find the need to call. I either solved the problem myself, or got answers in their email system within the program. So ignorance is bliss as fars as Drake being bought out. I didn't know about it, and because I feel I know the program too well to quit, I have to say I'm happy with it. The look anda fell of their web pages seem a bit more 'uptown', but I seldom go there for any assistance. My only compaints are the Communications Editor - for custom letters and such, and their lack of attention to details on State returns. I'm in Wisconsin, and they have a fairly complex tax return, with lots of additional forms, and it always takes Drake - before or after they buyout - way to long to incorporate changes into the state returns.

Poor support
I have used the software for over 20 years. The support staff used to be great and they are not good at all now. For the most part it seems like they do not know how to use the software. I believe it is a call center supporting multiple software systems. Staff members have answered my calls giving other companies names as the greeting.

I have been using Drake for 20 years
I have been using Drake for 20 years. About 600 tax returns (All entities and states). As many have said, it has fallen off the proverbial quality cliff over the past few years since the buy out. The auto robot answering my call is annoying and time consuming, and the human respondents though polite, don't usually have the answers to the increased software glitches.

To make the pain more severe, the price has gotten out of hand. Like others, I too am near retirement or I would go to Tax Slayer - I have tested many software products and TS wasn't bad, but it wasn't what I wanted - it was lacking. For the extra $2K or so I will stick with Drake for now as other software programs have also gotten pricier and at my age I do not want another software learning curve adventure ride.

I notice here that Drake also can't even bother to personally reply. Their answers to these complaints are clearly AI generated with boiler plate canned responses, so I assume that input to my critique will also be a disappointing as their failing reputation.
