As someone transitioning from a non-tech background into data analytics, I completed three eight-week externships with Extern across healthcare analytics, consumer brand research, and sports ROI analysis.

It is a good experience to work on my externship at Extern. The program specialist and manager provided a lot of resource to help me understand the materials and realize the current job market. Provide workshop and invite the tech professional to share their job experience and how to find their current roles.

Perfect way to gain experience easily in the area you want to break into as a student. The projects and modules are well organised and you can learn a lot throughout the process. I highly recommend.

One thing that really stood out to me during the externship was its clear and intentional focus on Data Visualization. That clarity of purpose exposed me to what it truly takes to visualize data in today’s business world. The program delivered on its mandate, and it has inspired me to keep telling stories with data—whether through Canva designs or Flourish visualizations.

I’ve done data analysis in previous academic programs, but this experience was different. There’s nothing quite like knowing exactly where to go and what to use when you need to create compelling visual stories, and that guidance was generously provided throughout the program.

I’m now motivated to add even stronger design skills to my portfolio, supported by real projects that grew out of this externship. Having finished my externship experience in Tiktok social media marketing and brand strategy, it has deepened my understanding in brand positioning based on brand voice, visual and style of reaching the targeted audience/customers on social media platforms such as Tiktok and Instagram, by use of metrics to determine views, shares, engagement and impressions to enable effective social media marketing and content creation that align with intention not exaggeration.
Moreso, Canva data visualization and AI Design externship has truly contributed in my field of climate literacy. I can now have access to Canvas AI design and produce educative visuals that brings strategic climate action storytelling that support localized biodiversity initiatives.
