Filmanize makes organising the production of your film simple by taking you from script to call sheet easily and efficiently, helping you find actors, track your budget and produce a suggested shooting schedule. Filmanize automatically generates your call sheet, saving you time on manual creation, and handles sending it out to cast and crew as well.

User Experience Feedback on Filmanize

Good day Filmanize Team,

I would like to share some initial feedback based on my experience using the platform so far. Overall, Filmanize shows strong potential as a film utility tool, but there are a few usability and workflow issues that I believe could be improved.

Firstly, regarding navigation: the scrolling behavior between columns (Film, Story, and Real World) can be inefficient. Ideally, a column should only scroll when the cursor is positioned directly over it. Currently, when switching between categories, the column often scrolls back unintentionally, which slows down navigation. For example, when moving the cursor from the Scene Menu column to the Scenes column on the right, only the active (right-side) column should scroll, while the menu column remains fixed until the cursor is placed over it. This separation would significantly improve workflow efficiency.

Secondly, I noticed that some industry-standard production codes appear to be missing in the shooting order or scheduling strip, such as OOO, BLK, TRV, etc. Additionally, while the scheduling strip displays colors within the app, it does not download or export in color. Having a color-enabled download option would be highly beneficial for production use.

At this stage, I cannot provide detailed feedback on the breakdown section, as my script was already tagged prior to importing. However, I am continuing to explore the app and will be better positioned to offer more detailed critiques on other segments as I progress.

Finally, using clear, industry-standard terminology throughout the app would further enhance usability and make the tool more beneficial for professionals.

Thank you for the work you have put into Filmanize. I look forward to exploring it further and sharing additional feedback.

Kind regards,
Small Fish Cherie Mbadu

Thank you for the detailed and thoughtful feedback. We really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience.

Regarding the scrolling behaviour, Filmanize is currently optimized for standard screen resolutions, and it is possible your setup is contributing to the issue you are seeing. We would love to investigate this further. If you are willing, please contact us at support@filmanize.com with your screen resolution, browser and OS details, along with a few screenshots or a short screen recording so we can better understand and address the behaviour.

We also wanted to mention that Filmanize includes a built in feature request system within the app. Submitting ideas there allows us to track suggestions, gather context, and lets other users support requests as well, which helps inform development priorities.

We appreciate your notes on industry standard production codes and color exports. Expanding professional scheduling features, including color enabled downloads, is already on our roadmap.

EDIT: The shooting days download now includes the colors if the option is selected.

Thanks again for your insights, and we look forward to hearing more as you continue exploring Filmanize.

Best regards,
The Filmanize Team

Filmanize, great program!

I have been using Filmanize and it has genuinely helped streamline my film production workflow. It made organising things like scripts, call sheets, scheduling easier and more efficient, which saved me a lot of time and stress compared to doing it manually. The interface is intuitive and built with filmmakers in mind, and the support from the team has been great too. I would happily recommend Filmanize to other creatives looking for a practical production tool.

Utilized the app for a film shoot

Utilized the app for a film shoot and found it very convenient for 1st AD purposes. Well thought out but interface could be more intuitive for this to be a 5-star program. What we found missing most of all is the ability to list our Base Camp location where all cast & crew had to report for their call at the start of the day in order to carpool to a remote set location. Our only workaround was to list base camp as a shooting location for first shot of the day when it actually wasn't the location of our first shot.

Thanks for the honest feedback, and we’re glad Filmanize was still helpful on your shoot. We appreciate the note about the interface and would be interested to hear your perspective on how it could be more intuitive. Base camp support has been on our radar, and your use case helps validate its importance. Feedback like this is exactly how we know what is missing, so we really encourage users to share feature requests via the app, email, or Discord.

Fimanize can be a game-changer for independent filmmakers

Filmanize is absolutely amazing. I really liked the UI. I am going to use this in my upcoming productions and I would say that currently I have tried their beta version which is good and I have high hopes from the Full-fledged version which they will be releasing.

Also, I feel that when it will be launched it will not take much time to break through into the industry and having the major film market segment. Because they are providing many resources at reasonable price and giving almost everything.

There are few flaws and bugs but it can be overcome, as it is not original version, It's beta.

I've tried the rest, Filmanize is the best in my experience

I've tried most of the pre-production software out there, and they're either way too expensive or don't do the job - I've been using Filmanize for 3 years now, shorts, a music video and indi features. It's functional, solid and gives me everything I need. The development team are really responsive when I have a problem or a question - I really can't fault it.

Last. Minute. Miracle.

I only used it for rushed output of call sheets for a 2-day project we were 48 hours from shooting (my AD got sick, so I was trying to help). I only say that to make clear I didn't have the opportunity to explore everything this has to offer. But the call sheet portion alone was incredible. Much better than studiobinder or any other solution in the past.

If the rest is as good as the call sheet portion was, I'm obsessed.

Thanks for the feedback, and we’re glad you love the tool. A dedicated mobile app is in the pipeline, but it’s still some way off. We initially prioritized the desktop experience, as Filmanize is quite data‑input heavy, and our usage statistics so far support that assumption. That said, mobile usability is important to us, and feedback like yours helps guide where we head next.

Outstanding Customer Service

While Filmanize software is in Beta, I can definitely make progress with it. What I think is really wonderful with Filmanize is the responsiveness of the team. I sent two emails to a more established company and they didn't even bother to respond. Filmanize has outstanding customer service. A winner.

Promising, but missing features needed to be useful for a professional

The app looks promising. Straightforward and pretty intuitive design. There are, however, some features missing which ultimately make it not useable for a professional. 1) The budget needs to be more pro-level. Missing fringes, estimates vs actuals, etc... 2) Scheduling/Calendar needs to be able to include pre-production and post-production in addition to production/shooting days. For example, if I have 3 weeks of pre-pro, 2 weeks of post, and only 2 shooting days, then I am only able to use your platform for 5% of my entire production.

EDITED FOR RESPONSE: Re your comment "Our aim isn't to replace software such as Showbiz Budgeting..." and "we do aim to be able to export to software such as Showbiz Scheduling in future."

Respectfully, that is a narrow view from a business model POV, one that doesn't meet the needs of its potential customers. The most frustrating thing about so many of the newest waves of applications such as yours is that I need to use/pay for three different such apps in order to achieve what a pro-production requires. On the production I am on right now, which I tried using Filmanize for, I literally had to use (and triple do some of the work) said three apps. What is the point of using software to make a budget if I can't include fringes? Or account for tax incentives? These types of things are crucial, potentially huge parts of a budget. I might as well use a spreadsheet, or go ahead and spring for the full Movie Magic Suite.

Re your 2nd comment "Is the main reason for adding the extra days to the calendar to add them into the budget?". I did not see the prep days option so I can't comment on that, except for that I did not see it. What I can say is that, as I'm sure you know, pre-prod is often the longest part of a production. So budgeting and scheduling throughout that time is absolutely vital.

Thanks for your review. The budget functionality is currently very much at the introductory stage and we are aware that there are a few high level features currently missing. Our current focus is on the actual production, scheduling and producing call sheets. We are always open to discussing new features and encourage users to use the dedicated feature request section to allow other users to vote on what they want to see next. Our aim isn't to replace software such as Showbiz Budgeting, but there are definitely features we can add to get it closer. We do aim to be able to export to software such as Showbiz Scheduling in future to utilise all the features that it has.

Is the main reason for adding the extra days to the calendar to add them into the budget? If so we recently added "Prep Days" functionality to the crew roles that includes budgeting for these extra days, which might solve one of your issues. If you could detail how you would like the post-production to work in a feature request we can look into that too.
