they will slowly skim your account of everything as "inactivity fees"

I opened a wallet with Freewallet.org in 2017. At that time, there was no such thing as “inactivity fees” in their Terms and Conditions. Years later, without my consent, they unilaterally changed the T&Cs and introduced a so-called “account maintenance / inactivity fee” — and then used it to drain my balance.

This is nothing short of theft. You cannot retroactively invent fees and then take people’s funds based on terms that didn’t exist when they signed up. No proper bank or regulated service would ever get away with this.

When confronted, they hide behind a meaningless distinction:

“Freewallet.org is custodial (we hold your coins) and Freewallet.io is non-custodial (we don’t hold your coins).”

This argument is irrelevant to the fact that Freewallet.org took my coins through policy changes after the fact. Whether custodial or not, the ethical and legal principle is the same: you don’t change the rules years later and steal customer assets.

Important warning:

Freewallet.org is not regulated by any major financial authority. The UK’s FCA and Malta’s MFSA have both issued official warnings that this company is not authorised to provide financial services.

If something goes wrong, you have no protection, no recourse.

Support is unhelpful, dismissive, and will not return your funds.

Verdict: Avoid Freewallet.org and Freewallet.io entirely. This is not a safe place for your crypto, and their history of unilateral rule changes and draining customer funds is unacceptable. If you value your coins, keep them in a regulated, non-custodial wallet you control.

I wish someone had warned me. The moment I tried to withdraw, they locked my account and buried me in demands. They asked for everything, selfies with documents, certified translations, utility bills, proof of where my coins came from and just kept adding more. Even with my account locked, they kept charging monthly 'inactivity' fee like it was a joke. Stay far away, don't learn this lesson the hard way.

I am seeing growth and finally feel in control on FIFTH & heaven. They are transparent and process withdrawals all the time.

My Freewallet account has been frozen for yers. I submitted all required documents to verify my identity, but no response was received except for an automated message.

Even worse, my crypto assets are being deducted monthly without any authorization. Exchange and withdrawal features are disabled, and I cannot move or use my own funds.

I have over $3,700 in assets stuck in the wallet. This situation feels like fraud. If this is not resolved within 72 hours, I will continue my reports to crypto watchdog platforms and legal authorities.

Before my account was suspended, I was doing well with Freewallet. But when I deposited a large amount of money (63,000 USDT), they suspended my account. I have not been able to use my account for 6 months now. I have provided all the evidence they asked for to the security team. But they still have not activated my account. They keep making all kinds of excuses. AlthoughI received a message of KYC verification completion, they are still refusing to activate my account and give my money back to me. My ticket number is: 548505

I have ETH stuck on the Optimism network within Freewallet. Their support team confirmed that my funds are held by them but have done nothing to resolve the situation or return my assets. Despite multiple requests, there has been no progress or clear communication. This lack of action and transparency is unacceptable. I urge Freewallet to address this issue promptly and refund my stuck funds.

Absolutely horrific!

I had stalled just 50 POLS and it's gone because of so called "inactivity fees".

They will steal your money, and will use terms and conditions as a legal defence. No warning, no memo, no communication. They'll just take it.

Not your keys, not your crypto,.

The damage for me is luckily limited but to each and everyone who still has funds on there, take them away now before it's too late.

Freewallet's conditions of use can change without you even receiving an e-mail. The most recent one: your wallet emptied by €50/month in the event of inactivity for 6 months. All without notice.

Conclusion: avoid at all costs.

I seem to have the same issue as everyone else. I have had this wallet open for around 8 years now, and they have paid out in the past, but recently they have locked my account for pending verification. I have sent all the relevant documents they have asked, but its been over 2 months now! When I ask the reason for the delay, the response is always "this may take some time". Whilst the delay is ongoing, they keep charging me inactive fees each month, which is mounting up to hundreds of pounds. I truly hope I can make an alteration to this review within the next week, to prove me wrong, but until then, I would definitely AVOID this wallet!

It's all good until you need to withdraw money. They reply and ask for documents. Once you provide your documents, they go dark. They won't reply and keep on charging inactivity fees (50$) a month.
Just look other other review website on reddit, it's all over the place.
They will drain your account in no time and you can't do a thing about it. Do not deal with them unless you want to throw away your money.

Cleaned me out in fees. I wasn't even sent an email about it. Read the fine print. Crazy for a company called FREE wallet.

Horrible experience open my wallet after about two years, knowing that everything would be fine and of course, yet again after reading so many comments: my balance was zeroed out in activity fee luckily it wasn’t very much crypto but the principal it actually was a lot less when I deposited it then it’s worth it now now it’s all gone a lesson learned self custody or die! I’ve been trying to recover access to my Freewallet account for over a month. I created the account in 2018 and provided every document they asked for — ID, screenshots, transaction history, everything.

At first, they replied slowly and kept asking for more documents. Then, suddenly, they stopped responding entirely. It’s been weeks, and I haven’t received a single reply. My funds are still locked inside the wallet, and there’s no way to access them.

After some research, I found out that many other users are experiencing the exact same problem: blocked accounts, ignored emails, and no access to their money.

This is not a wallet — it’s a scam. Stay away from Freewallet! They are thieves hiding behind support silence.

Do not put any coin with them, when you try to withdraw your coins they block your account and start to request infinite requirements like, photos of you holding documents, copies of documents with certified English translation, ID Card, passport, bank statement, household register excerpt, council tax and utility bills, proof of where coins come from, and so on. In addition they charge 50USD in concept of "inactivity fee" even with locked account. I opened a support ticket in 09/2024, today 06/2025 still asking for new documentation, still charging 50USD fee every month and still blocking my account. RUN FROM THESE SCAMMERS, THEY STEAL YOUR MONEY!!!!!

Warning: Freewallet freezes funds without legal basis

I strongly advise against using Freewallet. Despite fully completing the verification process and submitting all requested documents in line with their own terms and conditions, my account was frozen — without clear explanation, without respecting deadlines, and with no sign of resolution.

Customer support responds with generic statements about “security” and “international laws,” but completely ignores direct questions and valid evidence. It appears to be a systematic tactic: block user access, delay responses, and ultimately prevent users from retrieving their own funds.

Bottom line: Avoid this service. If you deposit money here, you may never see it again.

I started using Freewallet in 2017 and made several purchases over the years. Every time I moved funds, I got a balance notification. But between late 2024 and May 2025, they silently deducted "inactivity fees" — without any emails or warnings. When I logged in after 5 months of inactivity to transfer my crypto, my account was locked and I was forced into a long ID verification process (ID, selfie, utility bill). Only after 3 weeks I got access.

They claimed I was notified of the Terms change — but never showed proof. I also never received any receipts or invoices for the fees, and they deducted XRP and DOGE instead of the currencies I actually had the most of. Once I withdrew my crypto, they immediately emailed me about the balance change — yet not once during 6 months of fee deductions did they send anything.

I've filed a complaint with the Estonian Consumer Protection Authority (TTJA) and UK Citizens Advice. Be warned: Freewallet operates with zero transparency and no user protection.

Scammers of the highest order.
I had some Ethereum stored in my free wallet account. I had successfully withdrawn money from the account in the past without issue.

When they started to charge an inactivity fee, I decided to move my ETH elsewhere. However, the transaction failed. Their support were unresponsive. I wrote on reddit and then magically got a response from their support team telling me my account had been blocked due to suspicious activity. To unblock it they provided a set of verification steps which i followed to the tee. However, on completion of these steps they didn't unblock my account, they asked for more information, specific to a transaction from 2019. I've provided all the information available to me from all the platforms i have access to, yet they still won't unblock my account, all the while draining my balance on a monthly basis under the guise of an inactivity fee. Crooks! I am in the process of understanding my legal position here, but would strongly recommend anyone thinking of using Freewallet, to avoid!

They are scammers, you deposit your money, they will suspend your account and ask for a lot of documentation. Even if you send all the documentation they will not pay. Look on reddit for a post with the title "HOW TO RECOVER YOUR FUNDS" in the subrredit "Freewallet Truth"
