Korruption på Geni !?

Efter overtagelsen af geni for år tilbage, er systemet blevet korrupt ”misbrug af betroet magt for egen vindings skyld”.
Curatorer kan med sine hjælpere
overtage, andres arbejde ved at redigere i tekster og data iøvrigt! Der mobbes i stor stil med nedværdigende kommentarer. Ingen respekt eller værdighed her! Retfærdighed har været ikke eksisterende i de 12 år jeg har været på geni!!!

Så blev mit PRO medlemskab slettet!
Det blev det med en begrundelse som er direkte i modstrid med Genis egne regler!! (Dokumenteret)
Bøllemetoder hersker stadig, og desværre med de samme frivillige "curatorer". Ingen tør gå imod en unfair "curator". Er det hvad de bliver "oplærdt" i? Uretfærdig og nedværdigende behandling af brugere!
Flere i min slægt er blevet behandlet på samme regide måde!
Som svar på ovenstående, er netop skrevet en løgn IGEN ! Fra Geni? Mon ikke det er samme frivillige "curator"!

Think twice before investing in a DNA kit with Geni

I have been a long time member of Geni.com, which is currently owned by the private company MyHeritage.
Geni offers so-called MyHeritage DNA kits, and I bought one through MyHeritage.
However, when I tried to upload my data to Geni, I received the message that DNA kits bought on MyHeritage cannot be uploaded on Geni.
I am very disappointed, because DNA kits from other (external) companies like Family Tree DNA can be imported, but their own Myheritage DNA kits not.
Other Genealogy companies like Geneanet DO offer the option to upload DNA from MyHeritage, AncestryDNA, Living DNA, etc...

I have therefore decided to abandon my Geni & MyHeritage accounts, and to transfer all my data to Geneanet.

Geni Vs MyHeritage

Originally I signed up for MyHeritage. Printing from that site wastes a lot of paper because you do not seem to be able to control the size of type or space between people, so reports can be hundreds of pages long - most of it white space but the functionality of creating a tree is good.
The functionality of Geni however is poor. It seems impossible to delete a relationship if you make a mistake. Many functions are not accessible from the menus, you have to dig around for them or search Help - the site lacks logic and seems as if it was put together in the 1980s and not changed since. It's a poor database implementation (I used to be a DBA). Never got as far as the reporting facilities. Cancelled my subscription and closed the account.
If you are on a tight budget, there's a good chance you will regret signing up for Geni.com

I'm sorry you had a poor experience with Geni. You can absolutely delete relationships, on the Edit Relationships tab. I requested more information about your review because we'd like to hear specifics about what functionality you did not find in the menus, or where you expected to find it.

Speeds similar to dial-up circa 1995

I started a tree on the free version of Geni years ago but ignored it. Yesterday & today I began adding data and the site is extremely sluggish. Profiles won't open, pages freeze for more than 3 minutes, words typed in appear only after significant delay and the data isn't accepted by the site after lengthy 'processing' times. I tried over two days - 5 hours or so, but Geni is flat unusable. It's a shame because I like the interface, and I absolutely LOATHE Ancestry - who once tried to sell me my own images, the creeps.
But if the 'lite' version of Geni is this bad, I def don't want to see the other side of the paywall.

Lots of errors due to overload, frustrating, not worth your money.

One of the BIGGEST genealogy scams on…

One of the BIGGEST genealogy scams on the internet. I had no idea when I uploaded my tree that Geni allows others to make changes to it; others that are actually so far out related, they really know nothing about my family. Don't upload your tree! They allow others to make changes to it, and apparently, you can never delete it.
Be aware that you can't delete your data!!!

Won't give money back and no contact whatsoever

Seems I was a numpty and signed up for the free trial with this lot and thought I'd put reminder in my calendar to cancel before the14 days was up. Didn't get my notice and they took the money from my account. I have now been trying to contact them to cancel and get a refund by sending emails and logging a ticket but without a reply. They have taken more than GBP100 for a worthless subscription. Don't be silly like me and even try them because as others have said there isn't anything worth trying. Out of all the Ancestry/DNA websites out there, Geni is by far the worst.

The confirmation email you received when you started the free trial, AND the email you received once the free trial ended, both give clear instructions for how to cancel. Paying users get priority support simply by clicking the link labeled "Submit a ticket" at https://help.geni.com

Just don't sign up. Poor functionality and underhand charging.

Extremely limited functionality unless you put in card details and then they take a YEAR'S subscription if you don't cancel?

Arguably it's my fault for allowing myself to fall into the trap, but it is still a trap. A monthly charge I could live with as that's quite normal, if still underhand, but £105 is completely unscrupulous.

The worst of all of the sites I've tried

The worst of all of the sites I've used. They constantly try to force you to use a flash interface. You can't import a GEDCOM file unless you pay because whilst it looks like you can if there are any kind of matches you cannot continue to import unless you decline or accept the matches which you can only do if you pay.
It's almost impossible to use unless you want to allow them to use device fingerprinting. If you use any kind of privacy tool the site breaks.
Practically any link or button you click leads to a promo to upgrade.
The interface is ridiculous many buttons link to a different site with what appears no reason. Clicking on matches stays on geni.com clicking on smart matches in the same location leads to myheritage and it's not clear how these are linked or if it will update geni.com

When you try to use help you also get redirected to a page that exclaims "Special Offer: Try Geni Pro for free!" So you have to sign up for support, you have to sign up to import, you have to sign up if you click a button or a link. You also need to sign up if you want to report a bug.

This site is basically just one big promo to sign up for a service that still relies on flash.

Please email privacy@geni.com with a link to the page where you have found your private information and we will remove it. If you build a solo family tree, that data is deleted when you close your account; if it's a shared family tree, the data is left for your other family members however if you email us at the address above, we can delete your profile and the profiles around you, as long as no other Geni user is equally-related.

Stay away form this one

Stay away form this one. 120 Dollars each year, if you dont want to pay that amount, the site is useless. Dont waste your time posting your family three there. You have to pay 120 dollars every year if you want anything in return.

Døde fødselsdage

Min mor er død, og jeg hverken kan ændre hendes status, eller få fat i geni.com.
jeg synes ikke at det er rart at få at vide hvornår hun har bryllupsdag, eller fødselsdag, når hun rent faktisk er død.
Som minimum bør man kunne få fat i noget support der kan hjælpe en.

Opdate efter at de har svaret 8,5 år senere:
Det er da rart at I overhovedet gider svarer, bare ærgerligt at der skal gå 8,5 år! Hvor jeg så får en mail og 3 (TRE) dage til at svarer, ellers bliver jeg slettet!
Det I svarer, var det jeg efterlyste for 8,5 år siden 👏👏
