Gin bikes - Great Value

Gin bikes - based in Reading deliver an excellent value bike with quality components and a solid build. This is my first electric bike and having read so many reviews from different manufacturers I’m glad I made my choice with Gin. The support received from the company has been excellent and are quick to respond. Delivery times weee the only thing to be wary of as they can be quite lengthy but it was absolutely worth the wait.

Hi i do not enjoy giving a bad review but this company deserve it i orderd my bike March 1st rang them many times difficult to speak to them and was given many excuses eventually i was told it would be at least another month but no date given so 3 month delivery minimum so I decided to cancel my order they tried to persuade me to take another model at increased price of £200 this i refused so i asked for a refund but was told this would take 3 weeks and there would be a 7.5% handling charge im now in touch with my bank to get help i advice do not deal with this company unless you are prepared for a very long wait

We have been dealing with an overwhelming number of orders, which has unfortunately affected our delivery times. Additionally, the delay in your bike delivery is due to the situation in the Red Sea, which has disrupted shipping routes and caused significant delays in deliveries. While we understand this is not an ideal situation, it has affected many companies and their ability to fulfill orders on time.

We understand your frustration and want to offer a potential solution. We do have a different model available that can be shipped out immediately if you are willing to cover the additional £200 (as this is a new full suspension GIN X, which we have just lauched recently and it's price starts from £1499). However, this is merely a suggestion, and we completely respect your decision if you choose not to pursue this option.

Regarding the cancellation charges, I would like to clarify that the fee is actually 6.4%, not 7.5%. Please note that any cancellations and/or returns/refunds do not include the payment commission charged at the time of placing the order (typically around 2.9% of the processed amount for international buyers and 1.9% for UK-based buyers). These payment charges are always subtracted from the final cancellation or refund processed. Additionally, if it has been more than 24 hours since you placed the order, there will be an additional cancellation charge of 4.5% of the order value to compensate for order reservation, as we reserve and start preparing your order within 24 hours of it being placed in our manufacturing facility. The three-week processing time for refunds is due to the necessity of going through various payment processors, which we are currently working to streamline.

We do not hide these cancellation fees, and they are clearly stated in our cancellation and return policy on our website. We believe in being transparent with our customers and aim to provide all necessary information upfront.

We appreciate your patience and apologize for the inconvenience caused. If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Company lies about delivery time

Before ordering, I asked how long delivery will take. They said 3-4 weeks. This is a complete lie. I've contacted them multiple times, each time it's just going to be another two weeks... Now four months and still no bike. After reading other reviews, I can see that this is regular behaviour for this company. They promise delivery within 3-4 weeks, then give you a steady stream of BS excuses why it's taking longer. It's pathetic.

EDIT: I emailed them in June posing as a new customer asking for delivery time, and they told me 3-4 weeks! It's unbelievable, they lie with no shame. And their claim of giving updates is also a lie. Each time I contacted them they gave me a new delivery timeline ("just another two weeks..."), and each time I had to contact them asking for updates when the new delivery date passed.

Horror story from Nov 22 still ongoing



I ordered my bike in November 2022 and received in march 2023. I have seen numerous reviews around delivery time and there always seems to be an excuse. The current one being Gaza. However be prepared to wait 3-5 months for your bike despite promises of much shorter times.

When I received the bike I was genuinely happy. I only use the bike for commutes to work. 7 miles per day round trip on a bike path or public footpath. However after around 300 miles (start of August 2023 )things started to go horribly wrong. The bike started cutting out and losing power. I got in touch with Rahul ( the owner) who asked for videos. I sent videos and Rahul called me and advised he would speak to the factory and get back to me. During the next 2 months I went on holiday and worked away. Having heard nothing from Rahul I then chased him back up in October.

I was shocked to get a response from Rahul advising that he assumed the issue had been resolved as I hadn’t chased him up. I reminded Rahul that he had promised to get back in touch with me and that he shouldn’t assume this. After what felt like thousands of emails which included Rahul asking me to get the issue fixed at a local bike repair shop. Rahul finally agreed on 4th of November to send a new controller as this would definitely fix the issue. I had to chase this up again and didn’t receive until the 22nd of November

This didn’t resolve the issue in the slightest and the bike was still cutting out. Only when I threatened to do a charge back on my credit card did Rahul finally agree to pick up the bike and have it looked at. This was done and returned to me with an upgraded controller around the 10th of December with Rahul advising me that it was a faulty battery connection and that he had also replaced the battery.

The bike worked fine ( although I noticed that the battery capacity was much lower that it had been previously but to be perfectly honest I was just happy I had a working bike. I also noticed that the battery hadn’t been replaced with a new one at all.) After around 320 miles (start of may 2024) the bike has started cutting out again. Again I emailed with videos and it seems Rahul doesn’t deal with his customers directly anymore and has a technician who uses WhatsApp to communicate with his customer and also someone who deals with the emails. I went through the whole process of speaking with the technician via WhatsApp and explaining that this had happened before. It took 2 days to get a reply and then another 3 days to get a reply (16th may 24) saying that he had passed the info to the ”team” to get looked at. Another 2 weeks have passed and I have just had an email asking me to wiggle bike around to see if it cuts out. Seriously this analysis took 2 weeks?

As you can see my whole experience has been absolutely horrific and although when the bike is working properly it is a decent bike, I don’t believe it is designed to be ridden anymore than 300 miles without having faults. The bike is well maintained, kept in a locked covered bike shed at my place of work and a garage at home. It’s not been ridden off road or abused. There is no reason for my issues other than poor quality. Add in the mix the poor service you get from GIN I can only recommend to cancel your order if you haven’t got your bike yet or don’t order if you are thinking about it. I would have happily paid double to get a more reputable bike

Thirdly.. I have been instructed that in order for them to pick up the bike it needs to be packed in the same order of how I received the bike. How on earth is this possible??? Again an absolute shambles of a company where every email exchange just delays the actual resolution!!!

Update 2
After reaching out to the owner Rahul to get around how he expects to fix my bike. I received a very condescending email telling me that I basically should be grateful that he picked the bike up to repair it previously and that if I am unwilling to re package the bike ( exactly how it was delivered to me) there isn’t anything they will do. He also advised me to ask a local repair shop to fix the bike and they MAY cover the cost. However at the some time he sent me the terms of warranty which basically advises that it will be void if anyone touches the bike that isn’t them.. honestly had enough of these guys now and feel like my only option is to take this awful company to a small claims court

I have done some research on YouTube ( something that helped me decide to buy the bike) and can even see that others who decided to test and buy the bike are getting the same fault I am getting. YouTube at techjamo for more information

My Gin x bike

Was never informed the bike was coming from China and would take 6-7 weeks. This was further delayed due to the confilct in Gaza (not Gin x fault)
The bike itself is well built and looks great The motor packs a punch and is a bit noisey on the hills but does the job nicely. Have not tested the range due to hurting my knee. But 20 mile cycles are an ease even with my injury. Recommend buying the bundle the mud guards, saddle etc are good quality. This is a great quslity bike for the money. And the team will answer any questions you have within a day or two.

Apart from the lengthy delivery time [Updated]

Apart from the lengthy delivery time, which is of minor concern to me, the quality of the bike has been disappointing.
It seems no better than an average Chinese bike in the same price bracket.
Specifically, the front wheel suspension on my bike was defective, and despite my request for assistance over a month ago, Gin has yet to propose a solution.
Should there be any changes in the future, I pledge to update my review accordingly.

As promised, I've updated my review on the Gin bike, particularly regarding the faulty fork. After an extensive discussion with the support team, I received a replacement fork and I'm hopeful it will function properly. My thanks to the support team for their understanding; I believe this was a rare unfortunate incident.

Great E Bike for the money.

Update on 10/08/2024. The battery charger that I recieved with the bike has now developed a fault and needs replacing. I've now discovered that Gin only offer a 6 month warranty on the charger so they won't replace it. They want to charge £49.99 for a new one. The same charger is available on Amazon UK for £19.99 and comes with a 12 month warranty. Very poor customer care in my book.

I have had my Gin X e bike for 6 month's now and I have done about 800 miles on it. It's been great so far. The bike was easy to assemble, it performs well and is a joy to ride. The hydraulic disk brakes are great and are essential on a power assisted bike. I mainly use the highest level of power assist (level 5) and get around 35+ miles on a single charge of the battery. The Bafang hub drive motor powers you along with ease and the bike handles steep hills well.
For the £999 paid for this bike I am very happy with my Gin X e bike.

I have had my Gin X for around a year…

I have had my Gin X for around a year now. I have had no issues with it at all, it has delivered everything I have asked. As a heavier rider it has not struggled at all. The extra pannier rack and bags was a worthwhile investment too. For the price it's hard to beat.

Brilliant support to begin with

Brilliant support to begin with, as for the bike I have nothing but praise and admiring looks, I never realised how easy it was to ride and yesterday went on a 25k ride and came home with 100% charge still on the battery! It has opened up my mind to all the places I can go and with minimal effort-well done Gin for a wonderful product.

After a 21 week wait I received my bike…

After a 21 week wait I received my bike it was easy to put together and well packaged. The bike is quite big and heavier than I expected but overall have been very pleased with it. The bike has been good fun to ride so far….ive only done about 70 miles on it and am now getting a very loud whining noise (sounds like chewbacca)from the motor on acceleration which turns a few heads not sure what it is but definitely needs inspection.

As an avid cyclist looking to upgrade to an electric bike, I recently decided to buy the GIN X electric bike, and it has been a game-changer. The transition from a traditional bike to this electric powerhouse has been seamless and enjoyable.

First off, the assembly process was straightforward, and the bike was ready to go in no time. The moment I started riding, I was amazed at how the electric assist kicked in smoothly, providing just the right amount of power to make my rides effortless. The motor is impressively quiet, which enhances the overall riding experience.

I recently purchased the GIN X electric bike, and I couldn't be happier with my decision. From the moment I took my first ride, it was clear that this bike was built for both comfort and performance.

The sleek design caught my eye initially, but it's the ride quality that has truly impressed me. The bike's electric motor provides a smooth and powerful boost, making uphill climbs and long rides effortless. I was concerned about battery life, but I've been able to ride for several hours on a single charge without any issues. The battery recharges quickly too, so I never have to wait long before I'm ready to hit the road again.

Iam very much disappointed about my gin…

Iam very much disappointed about my gin e bike .Bike mileage is around 30 for pedal assist 3, 25 for pedal assist 4 and 20 for pedal 5(80 kg weight)...today my bike got puncture after 10 days of use .very pathetic performance to climb uphills.Too noisy motor and one more thing wheel drum is touching hydraulic brakes makes terrible noise.. battery is draining very fastly better go to other brands gin ruined my all exceptation..

Regarding the battery range, we must underline that all our customers are generally very happy with the range, as they can get more than 100 miles on a single charge. However, this depends on several factors, including the rider's height and weight, riding conditions, wind resistance, and more. If you are riding the bike on pedal assist levels 4 or 5, the battery will indeed drain much faster. Please also take into account that constantly riding the bike uphill will reduce the battery life as well.

Fantastic Product

Fantastic Product

Gin-E Bikes are a very well engineered piece of kit, I was looking for an E-bike that was easy on the wallet but tough enough for my 14 year old son. After lots of research on the web and visiting stores like Halfords I decided to order. At under £1,000, the Gin-E Bike punches above its weight. You won't find many e-bikes with this many features and range for such a competitive price & quality build.
The only downside is you have to wait a while, but its worth the wait!
